it okay though).
So far, I've yet to come across a virus that takes control of Eudora (though
you can set it to use MS's HTML renderer for HTML mails, which
presumable allows viruses received with Eudora to commandeer Outlook
or Outlook Express?).

traces of GNOME from my system and installed the standard Debian

What about running a streaming MP3 server (eg. ICECast)?

what I put in
/etc/acpi/events/default. Before installing acpid pressing the power
button briefly didn't do anything, so it's picking up the event.
What do I need to get it to switch runlevel and shutdown cleanly? I've
had a trawl around the web, but documentation seems a little thin on the
ground.

I've two Woody boxes both using 8139too and with identical NICs. IIRC,
the workstation (2.4.13 kernel) is equally happy with rtl8139, but the
server (an older machine and running 2.2.18pre) fails to bring up the
interface with that driver.

I might hesitate to use it on a server without good reason, but on a
Desktop the far more up-to-date packages make it well worth it.

If no one pirated commercial software, companies wouldn't feel the need for

You could probably symlink these to the same directory - I don't think_
this would break anything...
Can anyone who knows the innards of apt-get better than me say whether
this is the case? (I don't have a dual boot to try breaking for myself

Rory - do you have sound if you log in as root? If so, you probably just
need to
add yourself to the "sound" (I think - might be "audio") group.

I know isn't packaged for Debian, although the Java installer works
fine. If you use multiple platforms it will, of course, run on anything
that has a decent Java VM.

On the contrary - I'd guess a fair proportion of the people on this list

What I'd like to do is return my system to vanilla Woody then try adding
Ximian Gnome back in...is this possible or would I have to resort to a
clean install?

I've just been looking into this, as we're experiencing the same problem
with mail sent from one of our web servers at work, but haven't had time
to go to deeply into it. Either way, the cures the same.

blem. Your ISP will have at least one
mail server which will relay mail their dial-up users - you need to get
the name of this machine from their tech support (or it may_ be on their
web site). Set this as the 'smarthost' in exim.conf and exim will pass all
your mail to this machine, which will_ have a valid DNS record.
Geoff.

Under
fonts, you'll find you can select fontface, size, etc.
I think it's part of KDE base, so if you have KDE apps, then you should
have it.
