A true Win2k domain works differently to an NT4 domain (I'm not an expert, so I won't attempt to explain), but can be set up to support NT4 using the compatibility mode you mention. Current releases of Samba mimick NT4 and so require this to work. Unfortunately I don't know how to turn it on, but I'd guess a search of the M$ knowledge base should turn it up: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx If this isn't an option, you might want to look at Samba 3.0, but it's still in alpha, so it would be risky in production environment. If you've already got NT4 machines in your domain, then it's using compatibility mode and you've just got something wrong - read through the Samba docs checking you've followed the instructions for joining a domain exactly, and in the right order. If you still can't see where you went wrong, it might be worth subscribing to the main Samba list at www.samba.org and asking on there. Beyond that I can't help - my next job is to persuade our Samba box here to talk to the new Win2k servers - it's been sulking since the NT4 PDC went... Geoff Beaumont [EMAIL PROTECTED]
