Dear friends:
My thanks to everyone for your great advice, information and
help.
Finally downloaded the ISO, checked the MD5 alogorithm.
Everything OK. Then installed.
Install was flawless. Amazed. At least so far. I am now
downloading 510 MB (733 packages) for the Desktop
Environment option
Dear friends:
A simple question: does the first downloadable CD of Sarge
include both KDE and Gnome? And is this first CD sufficient to
install Debian?
Thank you.

Dear Alexandru:
Thanks so much for an excellent clarification.
Two follow-up questions:
1) I have decided a few minutes ago to go with Sarge for the
reasons you mentioned. If I add apt-get.org and backports.org to
my apt sources, will I be able to seamlessly add updated
applications as they b
Dear friends:
After much consideration, I've decided to go with Sarge and
add the apt-get.org and backports.org sources to
/etc/apt/sources.list
This seems to me the wisest course of action. I will have the
benefit of Debian's reputation for perfection and reliability
plus updates of my favor
Dear friends:
I am downloading the Sarge ISO using Bittorrent. Bittorent
says that it supports resume. So, I paused (i.e. stopped) my
download several times, even leaving Windows to do so.
When I come back and click on the original link in Debian, it
restarts my download. But there is no progr

Dear friends:
Based on what I have learned tonight about Debian, I am
not certain yet which option I will choose: Etch or Sarge,
testing or stable.
Here is my choice:
Choose Sarge (STABLE) which can only be updated with a
few specialized apt-get sources such as apt.get.org or
backports.org
et as debian packages?
Thank you.
P. S. I am still downloading the Sarge stable release. It's
taking a long time. I have an ADSL connection. Will decide
after it's download what to do.

Dear friends:
I am considering installing the new Etch testing distro. At
the recommendation of a list member, I went to the proper
Debian Installer site and am downloading the rc3 version of
the installer. I hope I am downloading the right installer.
My question is: If I install Etch, wh
Dear friends:
I clicked on the "obtain your copy", then on "make a CD set
yourself". This immediately caused Debian to start downloading
its file with the "Installing Debian" message in the status bar (left).
Is this OK? I did install Bittorrent before downloading. How long
will it take to dow

Dear friends:
I have failed to find an FTP address for the iso image
for Sarge? I found an HTTP address, but I would
prefer to download it with my FTP client. What is the
precise debian ftp address?
Thank you.
