Uh, is this name-calling really needed? I could call a GUI mail client
bloated and not configurable, you can't even use it from a console
(which I am doing at the moment), but what's the point? Live and let
live. But I digress. I have to get back to my nethack session (another
non-GUI leftover from the 90s).

The above backs up my /home and / partitions to a USB disk and rotates
the last seven backups. Another big advantage is the reduced space
consumption as only _changed_ files get backed up, unchanged files are
just hardlinks. Would something like this be useful to you?

I found it quite capable, it is written in Fortran77, ~400 subroutines.
Also, you will need to do your own pre/post-processing, though you can
use GiD which you can find here 'http://gid.cimne.com/'.

I for one wouldn't mind using something like Debian GNU/kFreeBSD.
The BSD kernel development approach seems to be more structured to me
than the Linux one. Not that this has anything to do with the Hurd
though.

ou will need to get an sshd/rsyncd for Windows though. This shouldn't
be impossible, but I am not knowledgeable in that quarter, so I can't
comment. I can say however that my home partition (40Gb, of which ~33

40 Gb

apt-get install kernel-source-2.6.x module-init-tools kernel-package
('apt-cache search kernel-source' will show you which sources you
have available at the moment). Then you can read up about compiling
the kernel the Debian way in /usr/share/doc/kernel-package/README.

Hi,
also try
echo $HISTFILESIZE
echo $HISTSIZE
to see to what number the history is set. You can read more in
'
to see the processes acting up.
And finally there is 'atop', which records the running processes. CPU
usage etc for later perusal. So you can just let it run and examine what
happened later.

./configure --target=i960-rtems --enable-obsolete
As there is a quite a bit more to cross compiling than gcc I'd also
recommend some documentation about cross-compiling.

u would install with something like 'grub-install /dev/hda' or
some other partition. As far as I remember, when installing FreeBSD, you
can opt for not doing any changes to the boot process. After the
installation you just have to do the changes to your Linux boot manager.
