I still haven't managed to get sound up and running. It looks like everybody is stumped but I'm resubmitting the problem and including all that I gathered in the last attempt to get it working. I installed woody stable kernel 2.4.18-bf2.4 When I boot knoppix it uses via82cxxx_audio and works.

What can't sudo do?

I'm not a current sudo user -- know very little about it I'm wondering what the downside is to sudo in managing a Debian machine, if any, if admin duties are not shared. I don't use sudo -- I try and minimize my root access as much as possible. I jump into root only to apt-get install or restart

Mozilla prints garbage to file
