I am going to set up ip on to talk to my other linux computer and would
like to know which files I need to modify. In a Linux book I have, which
doesn't talk about Debian none of them do, says I need to modify the
rc.inet1 and the rc.inet2 files. They don't exist on my Debian system.

well, no one responded to this, so I'll just say that I fixed the problem
by removing lprng and installing lpr. I read that lprng is supposed to be
better but I also read in the bug lists that lprng has a problem with
truncating the pipe before the printer has a chance to receive all the

Many vendors supply low-level format utilities which run under DOS. These
programs are
able to mark the bad blocks at a very low level so you can use the disk. Check
out the
disk manufacturer's website. Alternatively, create a small partition over the

You might check to see if you actually have nsswitch installed.
I think at hpux 9.x it was a patch that you had to get. Unless you have
the patch, you can only go to hosts or dns but not both. It's a one

You can set it off and on and the intervall length in /etc/syslogd.conf

That isn't the fix -- you have disabled ftpshut completely.
The solution is to delete the file referred to on that line.

I have not found that when I shut down one of the scripts is for it, but
then it says that there is no such file and continues to shutdown. I
don't know if it was taken out in the 1.3.1 version and I just have an
exit script for it. I wonder what it is for also.
