It seems that the problem lies in ~/.kde/share/apps/akregator/Archive
not being sufficiently (if at all) binary forward-compatible. Erasing
it solve the problem while retaining the imported feeds, but it still
looses the history of what's already been read.

I do not know what kcontrol is supposed to do, but AFAICT CapsLock can
not be emulated as on typewriters. The 'Shift cancels Caps' idiom means
that Shift+Caps prints lowercase letters (roughly); when Shift is
released, CapsLock is still locked.
