I do not know what kcontrol is supposed to do, but AFAICT CapsLock can not be emulated as on typewriters. The 'Shift cancels Caps' idiom means that Shift+Caps prints lowercase letters (roughly); when Shift is released, CapsLock is still locked. Denis
