I have a similar problem on version 1.99-14 (currently on testing) I upgraded grub-pc 1.98+20100804-14+squeeze to 1.99-14. On upgrade, grub failed to install on /dev/md-0 . That left the system unbootable. All / is on LVM. The LVM partition is a recent one (created on squeeze). I downgraded to 1.
