I also second this wish.
At least some of the scripts, e.g. ldapsearch, work fine without running
slapd on the same machine.
It would be nice, if this could still be changed in Lenny.

may I second this wish, if it is technically possible to not let
ldapscripts depend on slapd, etc?
I want to install the scripts on my desktop where I do not need the
slapd to be installed. It is a question of keeping the installation

If anyone wants to manage ldap server running on another host,
they are not needed.
