Bug also reproducible on linux-image-3.5-trunk.
Switching back to 2.6.32 and passing "radeon.modeset=0" at kernel prompt solves
the issue - no freezes. But with 3.2 and 3.5 even that does not work for my
RV350.
Definitively a kernel bug, please report upstream.
I have done some thorough testing in the past days. And i can confirm that the
bug is still present in 2.6.32, but ABSENT in 3.1.0.
I can reproduce the bug often.

Never mind. Today i found out, that anacron was not installed on my system. But
after installation, update-notifier-kde now works as desired. Thank you.

As an additional note i wanted to add, that this bug also occurs, when ripping
to mp3. So its not limited to flac codec only.

Bug is still present, freezing the whole machine. Though i have to say, that it
occurs only very seldom now. It seems to be best reproducable, if more than 1
user is logged in, and the machine is under heavy load. If you then try to open
several large (>1,5mb) images at once in different tabs, t
Sorry for having you waiting for so long. It seems my mail was not sent twice.
As to the logs: I cant reproduce the error anymore. It seems some pakage
updates have fixed this bug. So please feel free to close it.
cheers!

I tried both versions (195 & 173). The graphics card is an 7300/7200. The exact
model i cant tell you right now, because i dont have access to that machine,
since I installed the clean Squeeze install on the machine of a friend of mine.

I have been able to locate the problem: This bug appears ALWAYS when the users
dont belong to the group "audio". However if i add them to this group, the
problem disappears.
I dont understand that: If they dont belong to this group, should they still be
able to play audio? What is this group go
And now what? Does this bug stay in "stable" or do you backport the patch?

No way should kdebase be deprecated, as it is a very useful package to install
only the basic packages to get a minimal but working kde desktop.
Anyways, if it is the expected behaviour of a system (wich has no proper sound
system installed) to play the sound via the internal pc-speaker, then c
I did a fresh Squeeze install. I choose minimal via tasksel. After first boot
into my newly installed system i did an "apt-get install kdebase kdm". That did
not pull alsa or pulse or any other sound system along with it. Therefore i had
to manually install alsa.

Additional informations:
At the time of reporting the bug, neither pulseaudio and pulseaudio-module-x11,
nor alsa-base and linux-sound-base were installed. After installing them, these
problems vanished. But therefore other problems occured.

Just one question left:
If I install xserver-xorg-video-radeon Version: 1:6.13.0-2, shouldn't
apt-get/synaptic automatically select the appropriate kernel version?
I.e. xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.13.0-2 should depend on linux-image

Sorry, this was just a test. Please close this bug.
Ok, I will try that. Thanks!
Sorry for the above text in the report. I just copy and pasted it due to a
misunderstanding of the debian reportbug-tool.
The problem:
DRI is not being loaded like reported in bug #572926. Unfortunately an upgrade
to the latest Radeon-driver did not fix it.
Please ignore this report. It is a duplicate of

I wanted to add a comment to it via the report-bug program. But it wouldn't let

Update to 2.6.26-2-686 solved the issue. No problems anymore.
Yes, it is a bug. But i solved it by installing Lenny. Now it works perfectly
well. So this is clearly a bug related to Etch.
