I tried both versions (195 & 173). The graphics card is an 7300/7200. The exact
model i cant tell you right now, because i dont have access to that machine,
since I installed the clean Squeeze install on the machine of a friend of mine.

While libdrm-nouveau1 alongside the 195 (or 175) was installed, i tried to
force x-server to load the nvidia-module - without any luck. I remember that
Xorg log said something like this: "loading nvidia module, error no such
device.". I will try to provide the logs you asked for very soon.

To your questions:

q: Why does your system load /usr/lib/libdrm_nouveau.so.1 anyway?
a: i just dont know. this bug caused me many hours of try and error.
if there is a way for me to find out, please let me know.

q:Are you sure that the nvidia driver is being used?
a:Positive! since i uninstalled nouveau and also put "nvidia" into xorg.conf
and suddenly then compositing started to work (which did not, when nouveau was
installed), i am pretty sure. But when i have access to that machine i will
print out the "lsmod" for you.

q:How does your "does not work" look like?
a:i cant start kdm. Even after reboot, x cannot load and i am stuck at command
line.

You get the logs a.s.a.p
