I remember seeing an ugly icon in older versions of Nautilus, but not
lately. Can you confirm it still shows up in 2.18?
I'm sorry, but unfortunately I cannot help you hunting this down as I
have no recent Debian installation handy. If I hit this bug later on
again I will report back.
Kind re
like described in the thread and my
SATA harddisk works fine now with 2.6.16-2-k7, but as they provide no
"real" patch there, some work is needed here.
Kind regards

I recently had the same minor problem.
"dpkg --purge hotplug" purges the configuration-files of an already
removed hotplug-package.
I think that is what was meant with "Please learn how dpkg works".

I played around a bit and found the hal-device-manager, which shows some
information about hal/gnome-volume-manager.
According to the information found there, I set the fstab-entry for my
drive to "/dev/scd0 ... /cdrom".
Afterwards I got a cd-rom symbol on my desktop, doubleclicking it starts
nauti
from SID using scsi-emulation (hdc=ide-scsi), so I think it is not a
kernel issue.
Kind regards,
