I can indeed use shift and input characters such as < > and : along
with everything else on my keyboard. You probably are using a
non-apple keyboard on your machine which is known to not work very
well with Apple OpenFirmware.

See above, I am not going to add endless lines of code to ybin to try
to figure out where a device is on random peoples systems, nor am I
going to add configuration options for something like this.
Device names should be standard and predictable, all of Unix
lied
as it will prevent ybin from doing proper error checking. (ybin
should not accept non-standard /dev/nvram locations if nvsetenv will
not).
