I installed the three files
libsane libsane-common and sane-utils
1.0.25+git20150102-1_amd64
They installed without error. I rebooted system as I also updated my 3.18
kernel at the same time
I then opened xsane and scanned a document.
It failed - same error
I then tried Simple scan and it succ
sane 1.0.24-8 does not fix it.

Just plugging into a USB2 port is not enough, the setting has to be
disabled. Using a hub does not help. Older solutions like permissions are
not the issue.
Hopefully enough clues to look for a solution.
