I have exactly the same problem.
Dmitriy, could you please give a bit more details (or some pointer) on
editing the "userChrome.css" file? There's no such file in my profile
directory and I don't like the "Tabs on Top" format much.

Suddenly upgrading linux image to 2.6.29 solved the problem. I'm quite
surprised and happy about it but anyway having xorg broken and fixed
