I encountered the same problem after replacing sysv-rc
with openrc on sid/kfreebsd-amd64. "sudo poweroff" just
triggers a reboot instead of real poweroff.
This can be fixed by installing sysv-rc back.

When calling fai-diskimage, FAI sets NIC1 to the nic name of the host
system, which maybe wlan0 or eth4 or some other value. NIC1 is used
for creating /etc/network/interfaces.
This can easily be fixed by setting NIC1=eth0 in a class/*.var file.
