I used mate-appearance properties to change the look and got to know
that I am/was running a customized theme taking -
Controls - BlueMenta
Window Borders - BlueMenta
Icons - Menta
Pointer - Mate
When running from the CLI t
Control: reassign -1 xfslibs-dev
Control: retitle -1 xfslibs-dev: Don't put the .so symlink to /lib/*.so
Control: affects -1 src:xfsdump
The root cause of this bug is that /usr/lib/libhandle.a is being used
instead of /lib/libhandle.so
This was already not right before, but now it became fatal.

this is caused by -fPIC by default in latest debian packages. Kernel build
fails because -fPIC is incompatible with -mcmodel=kernel .
Example command line used for -fstack-protector test follows:
gcc -D__KERNEL__ -Wall -Wundef -Wstrict-prototypes -Wno-trigraphs
-fno-strict-aliasing -fno-com
