I was having the exact same problem running Pulseaudio 2.0-6.1 on Debian
7.8 using Gnome 3.4.2. I was able to resolve the issue by installing the
alsa-utils and alsa-base packages. I do not know the details as to why
this worked as I am not a programmer. Hope this info is helpful!

On a Debian jessie system where brasero was installed and it didn't work
(showing the strange error message reported here), installing brasero-cdrkit
fixed the problem.
So, it seems that brasero-cdrkit should be added to Recommends at
least, or else we will receive

Some of the config.site files define a value for ac_cv_sizeof_off_t,
but that value is wrong as it depends on whether the package is going
to be built with LFS enabled (through AC_SYS_LARGEFILE for example).

You're right. The problem only occurs with Java 8 not 7. If I modify
make-jpkg to also include release-3 the problem is resolved.
The way make-jpkg determines which virtual packages is provides is
