drivers/tty/vt/selection.c, but with its own selection state. The
speakup selection mechanism should really be merged with vt.

Sadly, sc does not really know anything about non-ASCII
stuff. Entering works probably because sc will just dump it right back
to screen, but editing, it gets lost somewhere in the middle of UTF.
Fixing this would require quite a bit of work. If someone is
interested, please make patches.

Maye I misunderstood something but i think there's a reason the
memory is mlocked; to avoid leaking sensitive information into swap.
As far as I know, there is no gurantee, that mlocked memory
will not go into swap when whole PC is suspended, even under Linux.
