Test case:
- open a new rxvt
- enter a command, and select any piece of text (or double/triple clic into
rxvt window)
- rxvt will crash immedia

Do not let the waterfall init code dereference global 'active_modem' before
it's been set. Note though, there are plenty of other suspicious blind

I have the exact same problem here. Nothing special to do, I cannot
