[Bug 26303] Re: [Upstream] [hardy] OpenOffice floating toolbars prevent attaining focus when selected in Gnome taskbar
Related to this issue: switching with the keyboard to an OOo Document where a floating window is active will display the Document and floating Window, but none of them is active and the keyboard does not seem to work. Steps to reproduce the issue 1) Launch a Writer document. Open the style Window (F11) or open the navigator (already here, keyboard focus is lost and the user is obliged either to click or to continue working) 2) Launch a second writer document 3) Press Alt+tab to go to the first instance: no window is active, no keys except system wide keys do anything. The user is obliged to click or alt-tab to regain focus. The above can also be reproduced using the task bar with the mouse rather than Alt+tab. In my opinion, this usability issue, which is an annoyance, deserves more attention than it currently has. The office suite is one of the central applications in modern desktop computing. [Bug 152638] Permissions and owner/group changed when editing using gedit
Public bug reported: This is an issue that is introduced in Gutsy, but worked correctly in Feisty. Steps to reproduce the problem: enter following code in terminal, when gedit appears, type something, exit while saving. mkdir test; cd test; touch test sudo chown root:video test sudo chmod 660 test ls -l gedit test ls -l A normal user is by default member of the video group, and therefore can edit the file test. On Feisty, the permissions are correctly retained when the normal user has edited the file: -rw-rw 1 root video 5 2007-10-14 15:55 test -rw-r- 1 vanadium video 0 2007-10-14 15:55 test~ However, two users of Gutsy report a different behaviour: -rw--- 1 rfb rfb 6 2007-10-13 19:32 test -rw-rw 1 root video 0 2007-10-13 19:31 test~ Indeed, the backup has the original permissions, but permissions and owner are changed for the edited version. This obviously cripples the concept of unix permissions and will result in eventual hard links to point to the backup file instead of the updated file. As far as my technical skills go, this must be no more than a gedit issue, where gedit now saves the new content in a new inode (renaming afterwards) instead of saving to the same inode, as it should to maintain the integrity of the file management. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Permissions and owner/group changed when editing using gedit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152638 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 299330] Re: Alt+Tab - switching applications delay. slow
This bug affects me as well for a couple of years now. What I see sometimes happening, is that the switcher is drawn in first instance with a windows title bar (without text). The "title" bar quickly disappears, and the switcher then extends downwards by the height of the title bar. [Bug 1244869] Re: Unity home lens restricts results to only files after a search returning only files
The issue remains there after more than three years. It is perhaps a small issue, but it is an issue that is intrusive. It disrupts the workflow. Rather than quickly launching, for example, gedit, the Dash does return nothing or just some files. In the worst case, the user already pressed enter and some random file is launched. The user can then start to close that file and focus on the Unity dash: call it up again, press Escape and then enter the query again. Unique and novel concept, the Unity dash. [Bug 1389200] [NEW] Type ahead discards first character
Public bug reported: Nautilus apparently clears the keyboard buffer sometimes, e.g. when moving to another directory. Steps to reproduce Type a few letters of a folder in the current directory, press then immediately continue type the name of a folder underneath. If the folder is opened for the first time in the session, and if the folder is larger, opening the folder will take a tiny bit of time. On a subsequent search, results from that category are not returned. When the user presses to clear the search window, the default categories are enabled again. Opening "Filter results" in the Dash allows to follow the status of the categories. Detailled description of the problem: - Both my "Applications" and "Files&Folders& categories are open - projects: after a short while, many files and folders appear. however, I notice that "Applications" is being disabled. - firefox: rather than having the familiar firefox icon appear, I see a few files (that presumably have been downloaded with firefox). Indeed, even while the typing erased the previous search term, "Applications" continues to be disabled, and thus is not searched from the home lens. Pressing and then retyping the query re-enables the Applications lens again. Expected behaviour: as soon as a new query is entered, all Categories should be re-enabled. Typing "firefox" from the home lens always should reveal the firefox icon, unless the user actively chooses to disable the Applicationa category. I have the impression this happens when there are many results from one single category. e.g I can reproduce this typing the name of one of my folders, e.g. "Projects", under my "Documents" folder. Such a query presumably retrieves all files with "projects" in the path name. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1308037 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308037 I don't agree that this bug report is a duplicate of bug #1308037. The other bug reports no applications appearing in the applications scope. This bug report reports applications not anymore appearing in the home lens. The Applications lens still keeps working, though (but not, as I understand, in bug #1308037). As a matter of fact, it is due to "Applications" being disabled in "Filter results" in the home dash at some time during the session, without apparent reason. Checking "Applications" back on again makes applications reappear in the home lens. [Bug 741995] Re: Unity acts not as a dock for LibreOffice but as a launcher
This issue concerns useability of Unity with a major office application. I suggest it should receive greater attention, as this issue should certainly not persist in the LTS 12.04 release. The problem seems aggraviated in 11.10, where sometimes Unity looses track of a Libreoffice document alltogether (i.e., there is even no "ghost" icon anymore representing the application). It is diffucult to reproduce the latter issue, though. Current issue, on the other hand, can be rather easily reproduced by loading a larger LibreOffice document through a double click in nautilus or through the dash. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741995 Title: Unity acts not as a dock for LibreOffice but as a launcher To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/741995/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 741995] Re: Unity acts not as a dock for LibreOffice but as a launcher
This issue is still remaining in fully updated Oneric. I sometimes have the impression that it is related with the time needed to load a document. I would like to see this bug reopened, because it is an issue that I have been facing since I started using Ubuntu four years ago, and which I have experiences with a range of HP laserprinters (strangely enough, I do not have any experience with other printers ;). This is an anoying bug, causing paper to be spilled. I am surprised to find so few information about this on the internet: apparently people do not care. The issue is long standing and confined to evince only. To reproduce, open a PDF in Ubuntu, Ctrl+p, select "Current page", and instead of the current page, the current page + a blanc page comes out. Print the entire document, and an extra page comes out. This is not related to mismatched papersizes between the print settings and the PDF page size: I tested that. (in fact, there would be no reason for a blank page even if paper sizes would not match). I changed the description of this bug from "Additional blank pages" to "Evince prints an extra blank page after each print job". [Bug 646724] Re: not all files show up in files-place
Some files opened from that folder and below do show up. It is the project folder itself that cannot be retrieved through the file lens. In some cases, there is a need to organize related files in folders. Easy access to the folder would then be a benefit. The "Files & Folders" lens could be very useful to easily retrieve folder just by typing part of the name. Working on different project, it is not always practical to remember the exact name of a document (e.g. meeting reports), so one wants to see the folder. Another issue with how things currently work. There is a subfolder with pictures. Once you've been looking at the pictures, the search term for the folder causes the lens to be flooded with these pictures. Retrieval of e.g. word processing documents using the folder name as search term then becomes very cumbersome. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/646724 Title: not all files show up in files-place To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/646724/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 749566] Re: Search for a folder gives everything inside the folder, except the folder itself
Playing music and maintaining pictures may not need a hierarchical classification indeed. However, it is difficult to imagine a folder- less computer for professional work considering the way file open and file close dialogs currently work. A folder-less computer would require an entire overhaul of current file management tools, file save dialogs, etc., where instead of browsing for a folder users could comment/tag the files. As long as this is not the case, and users are obliged to classify theyr data based on a hierarchy, Unity must provide the proper tools to work with a hierarchical file system. This includes the simple ability to retrieve a folder a user knows is there. Unity currently is extremely limited where it concerns the file lens. It assumes that the user knows bits of the name of every file he is working on and needs to retrieve. Instead, it will happen frequently that a user will look into the project folder and find the file he needs, browsing though it. What is worse, Unity only seems to index files that have been recently used. Thus, older files, or files that have recently been copied onto the system (e.g. after a "fresh" OS install) cannot be retrieved using Unity! As such, the Unity interface currently does not allow to search all folders/documents a user has. There is no other way than launching nautilus and use the old and slow search tools. Still far away from a desktop without hierarchical file systems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/749566 Title: Search for a folder gives everything inside the folder, except the folder itself -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In the same realm, the File lens should find all files in the user's home directory. Typing part of the name of a file/folder that is on the system, should retrieve the file/folder. [Bug 753304] Re: LibreOffice no longer groups correctly in launcher
I confirm this issue. For clarity, the issue is that when launching e.g. a text document, it gets a separate icon (a plain white document), rather than being grouped with the "standard" blue LibreOffice icon. The separate icon can be closed independently using the right- click/close option of the launcher. The OOo documents associated with the standard button remain open. Reversely also, closing the documents associated with the standard button does not close the separate icon. It is not very consistently reproducible. In the attached screenshot, three documents were grouped with the standard icon, a fourth document got its own icon. I have pretty much the impression that it is related with the time there is needed to open a document. Larger documents that need time to open, are all grouped in the separate launcher. Small documents appear correctly in the blue Writer icon. Attachment illustrates the issue (again) so that it is very clear what we are talking about. Please, when testing, try with large documents as well. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot showing the separate "Writer" icon" https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/753304/+attachment/2122386/+files/Screenshot.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/753304 Title: LibreOffice no longer groups correctly in launcher -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 753304] Re: LibreOffice no longer groups correctly in launcher
In answer to the question of Bilal Akhtar with respect to the tooltip: Blue LibreOffice Writer icon: "LibreOffice Writer" White separate document icon: "LibreOffice 3.3" Only one libreoffice process is running, though: $ ps ax | grep -i libre 2509 ?Sl 1:42 /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin -calc /home/vanadium/Documents/programme.ods -splash-pipe=5 3035 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto -i libre (consistent with first document opened, a spreadsheet in this case) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/753304 Title: LibreOffice no longer groups correctly in launcher -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 646724] Re: not all files show up in files-place
The issue is that the current implementation of "files and folders" is unacceptable. It is unacceptable that it does not show up the files the user knows are out there. This effectively breaks the function from the perspective of the user. Thus, this issue should be corrected with the highest priority, or the function should be removed if it cannot be technically implemented in a satisfactory way. Additional problem: inconsistency. "Applications" finds all applications on the computer, and even Applications *not* on the computer. "Files and Folders" on the other hand, does not even find several the user's own files that are on the local computer. Currently, this functions as an adequate "Recent documents" tool. Rename it to "Recent documents" and the current issue is solved. Then, a "Files and folders" lens could be a feature request for unity. Extending ZG with a new range of data providers does not seem like a priority right know, except if aims to make sure that at least, a user can retrieve his files. Let the rest follow once this fundamental flaw is solved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/646724 Title: not all files show up in files-place -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1972983] [NEW] File dialog in snap firefox does not have keyboard focus
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce the issue. After first log in into Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 1. Launch Firefox and open a website (e.g. www.ubuntu.com) 2. Hit Ctrl+S to open the Save file dialog. 3. Type "Ubuntu" to replace the default file name ("Enterprise Open Source and Linux | Ubuntu.html"). Hit Enter. It works the first time round. 4. Hit Ctrl+S to open the Save file dialog again. 5. Type "Ubuntu - 2" to replace the default file name ("Enterprise Open Source and Linux | Ubuntu.html"). This time, your typing fails: the file dialog is not in focus. Expected behavior anytime when opening a File dialog: the file dialog should have keyboard focus.
