Unfortunately, the workaround does not anymore work in LTS Ubuntu 16.04 if you use an international keyboard with dead keys (and perhaps in other circumstances).
- Dead keys do not work in gnome terminal - In gedit, dead keys work if gedit launched and opened a file from within gedit. When gedit is launched from double clicking a text file in explorer, dead keys do not anymore work.
