[Bug 301970] [NEW] update.manager unresponsive after installing updates
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager Release:8.10 update-manager: 1:0.93.34 update-manger notifies me of new packages. i click the icon, update-manager appears and shows updates that can be installed. i click install, update-manger calculates everything, starts downloading and installs the packages. after that, while calculating system status, update-manger is grayed out for sereal minutes, i cannot interact anymore. top shows that update-manger does little to nothing while hanging. eventually update-manger is back, the close button is active again and i can close the application. this behavior started after i upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 updates with aptitude or apt do not show such behavior. please let me know how i can improve my bug report! ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- update.manager unresponsive after installing updates https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/301970 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 283739] [NEW] evolution doesn't update unread message count
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Architecture: i386 Version: 2.24.0-0ubuntu2 after upgrading to intrepid, evolution is behaving weird. when opening evolution, it collects all messages, then sums up all unread messages (including spam mails) and shows the number of all unread messages besides the inbox label. if a message is read or marked as read, the summary count doesn't update properly. though if new messages arrive, it adds up correctly. so i end up with evolution showing hundreds of unread messages even if all messages are red. i hope this isn't confusing, english is not my native language ;) ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- evolution doesn't update unread message count https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/283739 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 335869] [NEW] crash (can't draw desktop) if desktop effects are enabled
Public bug reported: if i want to enable desktop effects, nautilus can't draw the desktop anymore. windows of open applications behave the way they should, even right-clicking the desktop works. though the desktop isn't responding to new files/folders - no repaint. left-clicking the desktop freezes the whole system. on only ONE occasion gnome showed the error message: "Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to locate the factory. Killing bonobo-activation-server and restarting Nautilus may help fix the problem." doing so, doesn't do any good, results in a completely garbeld/mixed up screen. this happens in latest jaunty AND in intrepid, all updates applied. also, if desktop effects are enable, logs show: bonobo-activation-server : could not associate with desktop session as in bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bonobo/+bug/293970 kernel: Linux 2.6.28-8-generic #26-Ubuntu SMP Wed Feb 25 04:27:53 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 8200 (rev a2) ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- crash (can't draw desktop) if desktop effects are enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/335869 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 136954] Re: don't ask for a dist-upgrade, just do it
just to be sure, as i am in no way a programmer: update-manager performs an 'upgrade' by default. the dependencies and conflicts of the individual packages currently installed, inform update- manager if there a additional packages required or packages need to be removed. if such case happens, then update-manager performes a 'dist- upgrade' which is based on a backend different from 'upgrade'. my goal/reason to file this bug report was that either way you do the upgrade, don't aks the user. hide the complexity. why should a user be bothered if a package now requires, say python-pygoocanvas? so why bother adding more a) interaction - by informing the user that the upgrade process is different from default; again, why should the user care? and b) confusion - use a different UI style to do the task. i hope i'm not sounding disrespectful, cause i really enjoy using ubuntu. in fact it's the only OS i run. these are just some thoughts towards a clean and simple UI and a 'linux for human beings'. i see a danger in dist-upgrade if you're running a development release, cause there *will* be broken packages/dependencies. but is there great danger if you're running a stable release? -- don't ask for a dist-upgrade, just do it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136954 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 124538] Xsession crashes on Startup - Both "usual" Gnome and XGL
Public bug reported: Hello, I just re-installed Ubuntu yesterday on my Notebook. I use Compiz Fusion (newest) and Emerald. I use the proprietary ATI driver for my Radeon Mobility 9700. I'm running compiz and emerald in an XGL session usually. Until yesterday it just worked fine, but when I booted this morning, the Gnome Session immediately crashed at Boot-Up. Starting a "usual" Gnome Session without any startscripts allows me to go online and look for help on the internet as long as I don't close the "Your session didn't last 10 seconds..." window. But so far I haven't found anything that helps me. [Bug 1568750] Re: With dual SIM, SIM choice is not retained for a SMS conversation
I can confirm this issue on my bq E5, since updating to OTA 10.1 this week. I use the dual sim mode with a business and a private SIM. When writing a SMS on a private conversation, it always switches me to business. Choosing private conversation sometimes works, sometimes not. I have even set "always ask for outgoing messages" in the system config, but it just lets me switch to the first SIM. This is annoying because it confuses my contacts with SMS sent from an unknown number and should be fixed as soon as possible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1568750 Title: With dual SIM, SIM choice is not retained for a SMS conversation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/messaging-app/+bug/1568750/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1122780] [NEW] Constant background noise
Public bug reported: I'm having a hard time figuring this out! First, when moving the mouse, i hear some noise in the speakers. Second, depending on how much programs run simultaniously and what gets rendered on the screen, i get a constant growling noise in the speakers paired with the slightly higher sounding noise from the mouse movements. If only the desktop is shown, there's no background noise in the speakers. Some examples that produce a background noise: when switching between desktops, as soon as the little window opens that shows all available desktops, the noise starts. open a terminal, open a file in vim. as soon as i move the cursor i get a growling/ crackling sound. while filling out this bug report, moving the cursor (with arrow keys) inside the text field i get that growling sound. yet even stranger: the blinking cursor in the textfield of this bugreport produces a noise as soon as the cursor is shown, so it constantly goes tock... tock... tock... tock... I tried the workarounds mentioned at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting but nothing helped. Anything i can do on my part to further investigate this? Thanks! [Bug 1013174] [NEW] Menu only visible when Image window/panel active
Public bug reported: When working gimp, the main menu is only visible if the window containing the image is active. This means, that if you do something in the layerpanel/window, the main menu of gimp is inactive in the topbar. This makes working with gimp very very unproductive, cause you constantly have to click in the main window to do any actual work. Doing something that has a dialogue window, produces the same result. Scale a layer, the dialogue comes up, you confirm or cancel the action and your main menu is gone and you have to click/activate the main winow again. Since the Toolbox panel/winow, the LayersChannelsPaths panel/window and the main Image panel/window are part of gimp and your actual workflow, there is no sane reason why the main menu should hide if you click/activate any panel or window other than the actual image. [Bug 943153] [NEW] x-www-browser not the same as gnome-www-browser
Public bug reported: I just discovered that x-www-browser is different to gnome-www-browser. This can cause some weird behaviour. Use case: Install firefox and opera on your system. Opera sets itself as default x-www-browser wheras firefox sets itself as default gnome-www-browser. Now, some apps use gnome-www-browser, while others rely on x-www-browser. For example: clicking a link in thunderbird opens firefox, while dropbox opens opera. For the not-so-power users, there is no graphical way to set x-www-browser. (At least, i havent found one) So the question is: Is it really necessary to have these two seperate confi-options still in 2012? Wouldnt it make sense to have these two config-options linked to one another? Or are there still so many use cases that justify a distiction between gnome-www-browser and x-www-browser? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/943153 Title: x-www-browser not the same as gnome-www-browser To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/943153/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
