[Bug 550014] [NEW] network manager no longer starts with the OS no mater what I do

2010-03-27 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

nm-applet no longer starts with the system. Even if it's selected in the
startup applications menu. Even if you start it manually and tell it to
memorize the running applications.

When you do start it manually sometimes it starts with the network
disabled or the wireless disabled or both.

If it starts with the network enabled it never remembers the password
and always asks.

This started a couple of days ago after an update. After the reboot the
order of items in the right of the top taskbar changed. The power is no
longer the last item, the order of the icons is jumbled and nm-applet
does not show up at all.

[Bug 550171] [NEW] GSynaptics complains about xorg.conf file and there is no xorg.conf file

2010-03-28 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gsynaptics

GSynaptics complains that a setting does not exist in xorg.conf.

There is no xorg.conf file in the system.

Either the package manager should put the file there, or it should
change the error message to indicate where the setting should go.

Come to think of it why doesn't it just set the setting itself?

[Bug 569672] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when you drag any file or folder on the external monitor

2010-04-25 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Most peculiar problem.

Running two montiors ATI Radeon HD 5470 asus laptop. External monitor
running as "single display desktop (multi desktop)" [the most confusing

[Bug 554959] Re: Headphones don't work.

2010-04-25 Thread timuckun
It hasn't been assigned to anybody so the likelyhood of it being fixes
in time for lucid is pretty close to zero.

The same issue occurs with HDMI. The speakers cut out but no sound
through HDMI.

I guess we have to wait for an ALSA update after the release.

[Bug 561350] Re: Plugging an external monitor requires a reboot

2010-04-12 Thread timuckun
The control center must be run as root. This should not be required for
simple resolution changes or enabling or disabling an external monitor.

[Bug 561354] [NEW] unable to drag a windows from one monitor to another

2010-04-12 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

When I enable the "single desktop multiple monitor" in the catalyst
control center I can move the mouse from one screen to another but I am
unable to drag a window from one screen to another.

Also I am unable to open up firefox on both monitors because firefox
complains that it's already running.

I should be able to drag windows from one screen to another and I should
be able to size a window across both screens.

Other problems with this touchpad.

The dual finger swipe horizonally doesn't work.

The touchpad is extremely sensistive. The slightest touch elicits a
click. This behavior does not exist in windows.

[Bug 554959] [NEW] Headphones don't work.

2010-04-03 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

The built in speakers work but there are issues with them too (tinny sound, the
boost goes down when you turn the
volume down etc).

When you plug in a headphone the built in speakers are muted but no
sound comes out of the headphones. Unplugging the headphones enables the
speakers as expected.

This problem fixed itself after an update. It now starts but sometimes
the networking starts disabled. Enabling it via the GUI works OK.

You can close this bug. If the networking starts disabled more often
than it starts enabled I'll open another bug for that glitch.

[Bug 548710] Re: External Monitor does not display when X is running

2010-04-05 Thread timuckun
The xorg.conf file was created by the aticonfig --init command. The
catalyst application is unable to set a virtual resolution and keeps
hanging up. Overall the the functionality of the application is
somewhere around 70% working on this machine.

If you want to close this bug I am fine with that. I can open up
specific bug reports about the specific problems in the catalyst
application.

The main problem being that I need to run it as root and have to reboot
in order for changes to take effect.

[Bug 590049] Re: Built in microphone does not work, headphones don't work, HDMI sound output does not work.

2010-06-07 Thread timuckun
When I plug in the headphone the internal speakers mute but no sound
comes out of the headphone. I can select "analog output" from the sound
prefs but it makes no difference. Still no sound.

When I plug in the HDMI nothing happens. The sound continues through the
laptop speakers but not through the HDMI.

If I manually select the HDMI from the sound prefs the laptop speakers
mute but no sound comes through the HDMI device.

If I plug in a USB headset and select the USB device on the prefs
everything works as expected.

[Bug 567649] Re: No sounds output through HDMI interface

2010-05-26 Thread timuckun
I can confirm that the problem still exists in lucid final release and
linux-alsa-driver-2.6.32-22-generic installed from the ppa:ubuntu-audio-
dev.

The HDMI output does not work and the headphone output does not work.

Plugging in the headphone causes the sound to turn off on the speakers
but no output on the headphones..

Routing the sound to the HDMI from the sound prefs sliences the speakers
but no output on the HDMI.

The only reason there were no comments was because I was waiting for
developer input. I had reported that the problem existed with 2.6..32.21
as well.

[Bug 548710] [NEW] External Monitor does not display when X is running

2010-03-26 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Laptop Asus K42jr-a1 using an ATI Radeon HD 5470 card. I have an
ployview monitor plugged into the VGA port.

When running windows there are no problems.

When ubuntu is booting up and it's in text mode the information is
displayed on both monitors.

Once X starts the external monitor goes blank. I have tried various
options in the display preferences such as different resolution, showing
the same image on both or not etc and nothing works.

Also there are no options to run the external monitor at a different
resolution than the normal (small) screen.

If the computer goes to sleep because the lid is closed it doesn't wake

[Bug 1768146] [NEW] Fonts are fuzzy in lower than 4K resolution on my monitor

2018-04-30 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

if I drive my monitor at 4K the text is too small for my eyes so I tend
to run it at slightly lower 16X9 resolutions like 2560X1440. If I do
that the fonts are fuzzy. If I run at full 4K and scale it 200% the
fonts are crisp and great looking but of course the screen space is
lower.

[Bug 874978] [NEW] Headphones don't work. Mic works poorly after upgrade to oenric

2011-10-15 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

Numerous regressions in alsa after upgrading the OS to 11.10.

1. Headphones no longer work. It doesn't detect the plugging in of the
headphones, if you set the output to headphones explicitly no sound comes out.
2. Gnome alsamixer segfaults on launch.
3. Internal microphone recording quality is atrocious. There is a very loud hum
and the recorded sound is very low. Attempting to boost the recording volume
also makes the sum louder until there is so much distortion it hurts your ears.

ALC269 Analog. I tried all the options in the HD-Audio-Models.txt but
none of them seemed to make any difference.

[Bug 874984] [NEW] GPU runs hot, fans always racing with the ATI driver

2011-10-15 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

If I use the open source drivers with my Asus k42j laptop the GPU runs
very hot and the fans race all the time. Installing the proprietary
drivers helps a little but neither works as well as windows on this
machine.

I would prefer to use the open source drivers as if possible. ATI radeon
HD 5470 Ubuntu 11.10. Upgrading to oenric didn't help at all in fact it
may have made things worse as I have experienced a few crashes already.

[Bug 666541] [NEW] The wireless keeps cutting out after a recent update

2010-10-25 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

For the last couple of days the wireless has become very flaky on my
laptop. The connection keeps getting cut. It re-established itself but
of course all my ssh sessions die and I have to reconnect.

I had no problems with lucid and I didn't have any problems for a while
after the upgrade.

Also the network manager crashed when trying to file this bug.

[Bug 596512] [NEW] The game crashes on launch after xinerama enabled

2010-06-20 Thread timuckun
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

This is the error message I get

/usr/games/sol
Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0".
The program 'sol' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 420 error_code 8 request_code 153 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

The package does fix the headphone issue! The HDMI behavior is different
too but not correct. Now the sound comes out through the laptop speakers
even if you choose HDMI as the output.

Congratulations on the fix for the headphone issue. That's a big one.
