[Bug 244165] [NEW] /home partition not recognized

2008-06-30 Thread supernaicol
Public bug reported:

Yesterday I helped a friend of mine (a newbie to whom i showed ubuntu)
upgrading from gutsy to hardy. The update process run just fine, but when i
rebooted problems started to happen: in a first time, the system opened a
maintenance shell because it cannot perform an fsck on another partition
(/dev/hda5, ext3), telling "press ctrl+d to continue normal boot". I pressed
ctrl+d, and xorg+gdm was correctly loaded, but when we logged in a strange
dialog box appeared saying that no /home partition was found, and he could only
use the /root directory as temporary home. Luckyly the upgrade process had left
both the new hardy kernel (2.6.24.etc) and the old gutsy one (2.6.22.etc.):
well, with the gutsy kernel all was perfect, all booted just fine and the whole
system was smooth as always.
Here is a short summary of the disk configuration:
swap partition -> /dev/hdb1
root partition -> /dev/hdb2  reiserfs
home partition -> /dev/hdb5 reiserfs

I thought I had made something wrong, but it seemed very strange that
with the old kernel all was just fine... maybe someone forgot the
reiserfs support in the new kernel comilation? :-)

[Bug 375761] [NEW] mismatch between libcups2 and libcups2-dev in karmic-x86_64

2009-05-12 Thread supernaicol
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

The version of the package libcups2-dev in karmic is 1.3.9-17ubuntu1,
lower than the version in jaunty-update (1.3.9-17ubuntu3). Due to this i
failed to automatically install libcups2-dev since i previously upgraded
from jaunty with libcups2 yet installed. I had to manually download the
higher libcups2-dev from packages.ubuntu.com. I think that this mismatch
is also the cause of the failed compilation of the openoffice-3.1
internationalization packages in karmic repos.

remember that after upgrading, downgrading or reinstalling freepops, you have

Try it with the freepops.org ubuntu package, and tell if it works.

[Bug 326449] Re: [jaunty] xserver-xorg-input-synaptics not installed

2009-02-10 Thread supernaicol
It was clearly stated in the known issues of alpha4
(http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/jaunty/alpha4#Known%20Issues) that the package
is not included.
I myself consider that a stupid decision, because the live cd is the primary
way to promote ubuntu (and overall kubuntu with the fresh new kde 4.2) but if
the touchpad doesn't work, all you can get from your parent/friend/clients is a
bad feedback. I hope there was a very good technical reason to not include that
driver, and I hope it will be included in the next alpha release.

The bug occurred also to me when I upgraded from feisty to gutsy.
There is a bug report for openoffice.org-core (#114199) for the same issue, but
I think this is the most appropriated because the bug is to be attributed to
libhunspell.
In that bug report there is also a workaround, that simply consist in disabling
the module hunspell-spellchecker in ooffice (menu tools->options->linguistic.

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2007-07-26 Thread supernaicol
@ Tama00:

you're right: in its own MS having a majority market share is not a bug: but
you're not considering some consequences: due (also) to their policies, often
we have to handle with proprietary formats and protocols (doc, xls, wma, ecc.);
due (sometime) to their pressure some hardware manufacturers neither release
drivers designed for linux nor they permit reverse engineering of windows one;
so their behaviors influence also people, like me and you and Mark Shuttlespace
and John Doe here, that in complete freedom have made a different choice. They
don't want us to be comfortable with our choice.
This is, in my very supponent opinion, the worst bug that can even exist. We
have to change this situation. Maybe it's not a matter of market share, i can
agree, but at least is a matter of knowledge...
Another little one:

same of Luca's (my friend that enjoy runnign MS Windows).

Yep, i think it was due to the fact that i used to play part of my
collection from a ntfs filesystem. This made amarok freeze quite often
and i had to close it brutally with a kill signal (but the podcast list
was saved from one of my previous sessions). Now I moved all my
collection to a xfs filesystem and I compiled amarok from the current
svn repo, and it seems all good.
Sorry, maybe I should have changed the bug status, but I've still to
take confidence with the launchpad platform.

[Bug 161234] Keyboard led stop functioning after upgrade to hardy

2007-11-09 Thread supernaicol
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to Kubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 (development version), and when I
upgraded to version 1:1.2.2-3ubuntu1 of xserver-xorg-input-keyboard I noted
that the three common led on my keyboard (NumLock, CapsLock and ScrollLock)
stopped functioning properly.
The related keys continue working (if I press BlocNum numbers get enabled and
disabled, even if I don't see the light), but the leds don't give any response.

2009-10-10 Thread supernaicol
Here is mine, from a normal boot with mountall v. 0.1.8

on the other hand, I don't have a /sys/kernel/security directory.

[Bug 418509] Re: [Karmic] Hangs during shutdown with kernel 2.6.31-7

2009-08-28 Thread supernaicol
For the record and your system integrity:

you don't have to push the power button to shut down your pc, even if
you're suffering from this bug or a similar one: the alt+sysrq+"button"
combos remain valid!

So, if you have to reboot your machine, all you have to do is, while
holding alt + sysrq, press: REISUB. It will stop then kill brutally any
process still running, but at least (and this is very important) it will
sync and safely unmount all the filesystems!

If you have to power off, the combination is REISUO.

Bye

[Bug 420835] Re: No easy way to enable rar-support

2009-08-28 Thread supernaicol
I think that this could be inserted in the "100 papercuts" list:
obviously is not a bug, rar support is available in the repos and works
like a charm, but it's not immediate to new users how to get it, so
Linus is suggesting a behaviour as with mp3 files.

I would take it as a suggestion, and also as a good one.

Bye
