[Bug 257681] [NEW] gtk apps ugly on kde, a perhaps simple solution

2008-08-13 Thread okparanoid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kubuntu-kde4-desktop

Hi all !

Lot of people complains about the uglyness of the gtk apps in kubuntu
desktop.

I have just discovered (and was surprised) than by just selecting a
theme (glossy for example) in the gnome control center, the result is
very great in kde, much more than with the use of other workarounds like
gtk-qt-engine packages.

I think than theme that are clone of the oxygen exist in gnome-looks.org
and i wonders why kubuntu just not apply by default one of this clone
theme from gtk apps or just the glossy one.

I can now use xchat, firefox gimp in kde and have a pleasant looking
experience with it.

Could we just add a minimal dependencies package (should be possible to
not to install the control center, just the theme to apply ?) for that
with kubuntu-desktop ?

Cheers !!

[Bug 254881] [NEW] [security = domain] 100% cpu after a reboot of the PDC

2008-08-05 Thread okparanoid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

We have a NAS with a Ubuntu samba server (Hardy amd 64 bits) who authenticate
the user by using the security domain mode.
The PDC of the domain is a windows server 2003 and have to reboot one time a
week.

After each reboot of the PDC, little samba seems to lost his babies and
we can't reach him anymore. We have to manually reboot him !!!

I think this bug is very critical...

Thanks for any helps

The problem is not coming from NVidia.

NVidia just workaround this specific patch coming from ubuntu... This is
obviously not the solution of the problem.
Others cards drivers haven't a workaround for this and should not be bloated
just because of one distribution. Why not just removing this old patch ?

[Bug 152284] VirtualBox seamless mode hide kde task bar

2007-10-13 Thread okparanoid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

Like i said here : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=568710

With the official innotek package for feisty the seamless mode put the taskbar
of the virtualized machine (windows XP) above my kde taskbar.
I have installed Gutsy and the ose version of virtualbox and now the seamless
mode hide the kde TaskBar with the windows XP taskbar.

Is there any solution to resolve the problem ?

Thanks

P.S : In fact the ideal solution is that the fullscreen mode hitself
dont hide the TaskBar, since it's easy to switch desktop with the
multiDesktop on wm in linux

[Bug 152284] Re: VirtualBox seamless mode hide kde task bar

2007-10-13 Thread okparanoid
I would say too that VirtualBox is THE killer feature to help users in my
company (whose i am an admin) to switch to linux the less difficulty possible.
For this an usage of VirtualBox the most friendly possible for end-users should
be an priority and this why i think that's it can be considered like a bug and
would be great if it will be fixed for gutsy release.
In this way the ideal solution is to have the fullscreen mode hitself above the
kde taskbar (if you have multiple desktop you put the virtual machine in one of
them and only it and don't care of seamless mode in this desktop).

Thanks !

Perhaps other users don't agree with my mind for the fullscreen mode (a

[Bug 152284] Re: VirtualBox seamless mode hides kde task bar

2007-10-15 Thread okparanoid
Yes i confirm that with the official innoteck package (from
virtualbox.org), the seamless mode don't hide the KDE taskbar. The
Taskbar of the Virtualized Machine is just on the top of my Kunbuntu
host Task bar.

The situation is different with ose version : The VM Taskbar (in fact i
have just try with windows XP) hide my KDE Taskbar (i don't know for
Gnome).

To reproduce the "bug" (in fact i think that's just a nasty problem of
configuration, but it should be resolved) :
install virtualbox-ose, create a VM and install Windows XP SP2 on it, install
the addition client.
Activate the seamless mode and enjoy to have loose your Kubuntu taskbar :op. Of
course you can reactivate it by doing some advised click but it's not user
friendly...

Thanks !

2008-04-10 Thread okparanoid

hello

i have upgrade my flashplugin-non free package, and in same time of lot
of other packages in hardy, so between the download of the package and

upgrade who temporaly disconnect the network interfaces.

So the install script fails to download the remote file of flash on the

Such things appends too if proxy settings is not correcly configured.

Is it possible to set the flashplugin-nonfree package not correctly configured

[Bug 215191] Re: set flashplugin-nonfree not correctly configured when adobe's download fail

2008-04-11 Thread okparanoid
It just says that there is no problem except during the configuration of
the package, in this line which are partially in english :

Paramétrage de flashplugin-nonfree (9.0.124.0ubuntu1) ...
Downloading...
--00:44:23--
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
   => `./install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz'
Résolution de fpdownload.macromedia.com... échec: Nom ou service inconnu.
download failed
The Flash plugin is NOT installed.

I repeat that i have manually shut down my network to fail the download.
The installation process is good and work well. However if a network problem
appears (by hardware defect or missconfiguration of things like proxy variable
environment on the client) the case is not considered.

sudo dpkg --configure -a as no result since the package is considered to be
correctly installed.
However the flash plugin are not. So the state of the package does not reflect
the reality of the situation

Thanks !

[Bug 215191] Re: set flashplugin-nonfree not correctly configured when adobe's download fail

2008-04-11 Thread okparanoid
Hello John

i'm very sorry for my poor english. i'm confused about the time you lose
because of this.

the problem (and it's a minor one) is not about the flash plugin
himself. it's work well on my hardy

I talk about the .deb package and the process of the
configuration/installation.

During the configuration/installation of the .deb there is a script who
download the adobe official tar.gz of the plugin.
It's work well and i have no problem with this and i have flash plugin working
on firefox.

I talk about the case of having network problems during the download of the
.tar.gz file or having not correctly configured the proxy settings to make wget
work properly. (Wget is used to download the tar.gz). In such case naturally
the flash plugin can't be installed.
The wish is to flag the .deb package not correctly configured in such case to
let dpkg retry an other time. Actually when such things happen the package is
considered correctly installed. it is not a very important request because a
"aptitude reinstall flashplugin-nonfree" resolve the problem but perhaps it
will be convenient for sysadmin of a desktop parc to know than in reality the
package is not correctly installed.

hope this can help..

the problem (and it's a minor one) is not about the flash plugin
himself. it's work well on my hardy

Actually when such things happen the package is
considered correctly installed. it is not a very important request because a
"aptitude reinstall flashplugin-nonfree" resolve the problem but perhaps it
will be convenient for sysadmin of a desktop parc to know than in reality the
package is not correctly installed.

hope this can help..

Regards

[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime

2008-05-09 Thread okparanoid
hi !

That i don't not understand it's why you don't try to detect this
problem automatically and let inform the user via notification that the
firmware of the disk is defect and propose him to make a "dirty"
workaround.

it is just few lines of code to add to the notification system (checking that
the number of cycles does not increase too high).

It is a major issue and even it is not directly a linux kernel or ubuntu due i
think that it is to the responsability of the distrib to take care of such
things when a large amount of users are touched with this.

Cheers !

[Bug 193538] Re: firefox3 is ugly on kde : Please provide a qt backend for firefox in kubuntu

2008-05-09 Thread okparanoid
hi !

Don't understand why you change the status of this package since he does
*not* speak of the kde-gtk theme (he is only a bit less ugly
workaround).

The wish of the topic is to provide a qt backend for firefox not to make
any hack on the kde-gtk theme (which are welcome too but it is not the
topic)

cheers !

I can't found documentation of proposed repo in wiki documentation.
In the french community one it is specified that is for testing purpose only
and i don't think that is activated out of the box but perhaps i'm wrong.

However it seems that 2.6.24-17 doesn't appear in proposed any more so i
think than it has been desactivated.

witch is not really a duplicate to speak on (the ugly too so it's cool if we

[Bug 205154] [NEW] [Hardy] netgear wg311t is not detected by networkmanager

2008-03-22 Thread okparanoid
Public bug reported:

Seems that network manager doesn't detect my netgear wg311t card.

As a result i can't select the desired wireless network to connect
directly by the gui frontend (with both gnome one kde one).

I think that is a network-manager bug because the atheros driver works well :
I have to manually configure (by editing /etc/network/interfaces file) my
wireless card to access to the network.

Here is the hwinfo of the product given me by lshw :

   description: Wireless interface
   product: AR5212/AR5213 Multiprotocol MAC/baseband processor

[Bug 199418] Re: imagemagick depends on x stuff

2008-03-30 Thread okparanoid
If i look here :
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/advanced-unix-installation.php

It seem possible to compile imagemagick with --without-x option :

don't use the X Window System.
By default, ImageMagick uses the X11 delegate libraries if they are
available. When --without-x is specified, use of X11 is disabled. The display,
animate, and import sub-commands are not included. The remaining sub-commands
have reduced functionality such as no access to X11 fonts (consider using
Postscript or TrueType fonts instead).

Is it possible to provide an alternate "imagemagick-nox" package for
hardy using this option ?

[Bug 193538] Re: firefox3 is ugly on kde

2008-03-30 Thread okparanoid
Note that the request is not to have better support of gtk in kde4
(which is an other problem and could help as workaround) but to have a
specific firefox-qt package who use qt for backend in firefox3 like it
is already done with aqua on mac os gtk on gnome and windows api on
windows...

Perhaps this request may have a better place in upstream bugzilla ?!

[Bug 193538] Re: firefox3 is ugly on kde

2008-03-08 Thread okparanoid
Since Mozilla Corp has decided to create specific platforms backend's
themes and use the platform api directly for the gui, the result is that
firefox3 linux theme render is very ugly on kde, because firefox use the
one they have made for gnome... And the render is "catastrophic"...

Firefox 2 don't have the same problem because of the unified theme.

Perhaps it is a compliant more than a real bug but i think that's this problem
is very annoying for all kde users who like using firefox.
For me it is a feature request : add kde support to firefox3.
I have thinked that feature request are welcome on this site ?!

Hi caroline

I'm reporter of bug 193538

I've just received two mails to inform me that both
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205804
and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200347

have been marked a duplicate of bug 193538

I don't think that is the same problem
I talk about the ugly interface of firefox in both kde and kde4.
and this bug report problem only with the icon displayed in the kde4
taskbar not with the gui.
However i can confirm this bug too. But i think this problem become from
plasma on kde4 and not firefox.

Best regards
