[Bug 245901] [NEW] Typeface option shows wrong language for options (Msttcorefonts)

2008-07-05 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-calc

When I open a text attributes box or try to edit text through "Format
Cells" in OOo 2.4.1 (2.4.1-1ubuntu2) and select one of the Msttcorefonts
(in fact happens reliably on Arial, Courier New, Comic Sans MS ,
Georgia, Trebuchet MS, Verdana and even FreeMono) the Typeface option
shows wrong locale options. Italic becomes "Cursiva", Bold is "Negreta"
and Bold Italic is "Negreta Cursiva". This only happens on the mentioned
number of fonts installed. All other 300+ fonts installed on my machine
work fine. I'm using English locale only. This has never occured before.

Attached is a screenshot depicting the behavior in Calc.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Set system to English locale
2. Open Spreadsheet document
3. Select cell
4. Choose "Format Cells" and switch to "Fonts" tab
5. Select "Arial, Courier New or other Msttcorefont"

Expected behavior:
The Typeface options should be displayed in the correct locale so the user can
identify them

Actual Results:
Typeface options are formatted in a different language and the user has to rely
on trial-and-error and/or his experience with the standard on-screen position
of the option.

[Bug 291051] Re: nintendo wiimote not working

2009-01-28 Thread meist3r
I have the same problem. In Hardy I could connect just fine.

Using this USB dongle (worked fine in Hardy)
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 1131:1001 Integrated System Solution Corp. KY-BT100
Bluetooth Adapter

I get the same "pairing failed" message through the bluez utils and hidd
times out. hcitool and lswm find the hardware address but I can't
connect whatsoever. WMgui says "unable to connect". Is there anyone
working on this? I don't understand why it worked perfectly in Hardy and
now nothing goes. Did something in the bluetooth stack change?

[Bug 291051] Re: nintendo wiimote not working

2009-01-29 Thread meist3r
I just played around with it a little more and I found that when I first
start wminput or wmgui and start the polling and THEN simultaneously in
the terminal run "sudo hcitool cc " I get a connection
as usual. I don't have a single clue what's happening but I believe
something in the wmgui/wminput code isn't authorizing with the Wiimote
correctly so you have to force hcitool to do it for you.

At least this way I can get my Wiimote to connect via bluetooth on a
2.6.27-11-generic Kernel with the btusb module.

[Bug 291051] Re: nintendo wiimote not working

2009-01-29 Thread meist3r
I found a workaround that does the trick for me. You start wminput or
wmgui polling for the wiimote and while it's scanning run "sudo hcitool
cc " in a terminal it finds the Wiimote correctly, pairs
and uses it. That's at least how I get it to run at the moment. I don't
know exactly what's wrong but I believe something with the
auth/connection in wminput/wmgui must be wrong or at least something
with the way they use the backend/stack.

[Bug 378867] [NEW] System Monitor Panel Applet doesn't show encrypted disk usage

2009-05-20 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

When I add the hard disk option to the system monitor panel applet I
always get 0% disk usage display. I use an lvw encrypted drive with an
unencrypted boot partition and the rest in one large lvm volume which is
split into root, home and swap. See screenshots for details. I would
expect the applet to display a visual representation of the current disk
size and how much of it is used. Instead I get "0% in use" all of the
time.

Version is Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 installed from DVD and gnome-system-
monitor 2.26.0.1-0ubuntu1

Is there any way to display not overall disk usage but disk activity in
the system monitor? That's what I'm looking for but the feature is
broken anyway.

[Bug 237036] [NEW] Trash Applet doesn't render icon

2008-06-03 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

! This is NOT a repititon or duplicate of the "Trash doesn't start /
disappears" bugs 211604 or 195915 !

I use Ubuntu Hardy with the latest proposed updates. My Trash Applet
version is 2.22.2.

A couple of days ago my trash icon from the panel went missing so I
tried re-adding it but apparently to no avail. Today I realized that I
had 3-5 trash applets running since they all added correctly. My problem
is that the trash icon in the panel doesn't render an icon at all. The
applet loads and works as expected but is practically invisible to the
user because it is rendered with approx. 1px width and no icon. I just
found out that it was there by randomly clicking on the edges of my
panel. I can access the context menu and even the trash folder itself by
clicking "on" that invisible area. I can add multiple trash icons and
they are all invisible but there. I don't know what's wrong this
behavior shows with all icon themes I've tried so far (Human, Gion) and
for all panel sizes.

gnome-applets 2.22.2-0ubuntu1

Reproducible: always

Steps:
1. Open "Add to Panel"
2. Select "Trash"
3. Click "Add"
4. Look for added padding space on the edge of the panel
5. Right-Click padding space
6. Select "Empty Trash" or other

Actual results:
Adds trashcan to the panel that doesn't render an icon and thus is invisible

Expected results:
Adds a usable visible trashcan to the panel

[Bug 241018] [NEW] OOo 2.4.1 crashes on Export (to PDF) - Spreadsheet

2008-06-18 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When I try to export an ODS Spreadsheet to PDF or other format the
"Export" button in the wizard crashes OOo (Calc).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Select .ods File and open with OOo-Calc
2a. Go to "File\Export"
or
2b. "File\Export to PDF"
3. Click on "Export"
3b. Make Settings in PDF Wizard, Click "Export"

Actual results:
In both cases OpenOffice shuts down and shows the error message for recovering
files.

Expected results:
Correct display of the Export dialog and Export to desired filetype.

This only happens when the application is started through an .ods document.
When I start with an .odt file or start OOo without any file in it Export (to
PDF) works as expected.

[Bug 239008] [NEW] Youtube bookmarks crash firefox

2008-06-10 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

This is a really weird bug. I use FF3 RC1 on Ubuntu Hardy and when I
click on a Youtube link in the library it takes a split second and then
FF crashes with a Segmentation Fault. I don't get any useful shell
output but "Segmentation Fault" this only happens with Youtube
bookmarks.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open Library
2. Select Youtube Bookmark
3. Wait approx. 1 second

I can use the bookmarks from the toolbar but I can't access them through
the library since they crash the entire browser. Any Youtube bookmark
will crash Firefox. Watching the videos works as expected and I can load
them through the bookmarks toolbar or the new address bar search but
only in the library will they cause such a crash. I can't explain this
any better it's really strange.

[Bug 239008] Re: Youtube bookmarks crash firefox

2008-06-11 Thread meist3r
You were right with the fta repo it screwed up my package configuration
so I re-installed Ubuntu. I reverted back to RC1 but of course the
problem still persists. I had it not crash for one instance when I
deactivated all extensions but I couldn't reproduce it. I followed all
steps above, removed libflashplayer.so from plugins, libflashsupport is
not installed. The system is a fresh clean install but all
configurations and profiles are carried over from older installations.

FF still crashes when selecting Youtube bookmarks in the library and all
I get is a "Segmentation Fault" output in the shell. This concerns all
running Firefox instances they all crash simultaneously.

xulrunner-1.9 (1.9~rc1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1)
xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support (1.9~rc1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1)
firefox (3.0~rc1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0)

I will now of course re-install flashplugin-nonfree and reactivate my
extensions. Will repeat steps to generate more info if necessary or
desired.

[Bug 239325] [NEW] Javascript makes Browser unusable

2008-06-11 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When accessing certain sites the browser becomes unusable during
Javascript calls.

Let me explain this with a practical example:
On this page http://www.gametrailers.com/player/34277.html there are several
elements that are loaded with Javascript automatically. The comments list
specifically needs user interaction to load more comments. This particular site
has 1700 comments which should be displayed in one enormous column after
clicking on the "Show all comments" field.

When I click the field to load all comments the FF window becomes
unusable. It locks up completely. Even though it's a lot of comments
data wise that is not really exciting since they are usually not more
than 2 lines long. Sometimes waiting solves the problem but it can take
several minutes until the window becomes usable again. When I switch to
another workspace and back nothing of the FF window is rendered except
for a few artifacts. All operations concerning FF come to a screeching
halt when this happens, downloads won't continue and all I can do is to
Force Quit the browser and re-open it again.

I don't know for certain if this is bad programming on the website's
Javascript side or with the rendering in Firefox. I can't really compare
this to earlier version because the largest comments section so far had
about 600-700 comments and I never had any problems with that neither
with FF3B5 nor all pre-3 versions.

I use FF 3 RC1 on Ubuntu Hardy with the proprietary ATi fglrx driver
which I have extracted into .deb packages for my distro.

[Bug 179917] Quicklauncher settings display French text in English environment

2008-01-02 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfce4-quicklauncher-plugin

I use the quicklauncher to fill my dock with icons. When I do a right-
click on the Quicklauncher and select "Properties" I see a window
"Configure Quicklauncher". The scrollable area of the settings have
French titles "icone", "commande", "nom" instead of the English "Icon"
and "Command" "Name". The spacing, tooltips and labels settings are also
named in French: "Espace entre les lanceurs", "afficher les tooltips",
"afficher les labels". I tested this with the German language pack and
my standard English working environment, all the texts change except for
those mentioned above. Maybe additional language support/translation is
needed.

[Bug 179916] Re: xfce4-panel needs to be restarted to keep Quicklauncher settings

2008-01-04 Thread meist3r
I can reproduce this bug 100% of the tries in Gutsy which uses 1.9.4 too. To
reproduce the bug I do:
1. Open quicklauncher settings (Right Click on QL -> Properties)
2. double click on one of the "nom" fields
3. enter new text
4. click on adjacent entry to close the selection
5. click on "Close"
6. Restart the Xserver using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace
The tooltip name I have just changed is displayed in the old version

If I restart the panels with --restart or -r between step 5 and 6 the
changes are saved and the tooltip is displayed correctly. If I don't do
step 4 my changes are not saved either. I have to manually reset the
selection or confirm my changes with enter (which closes the settings)
to make them work. The only way to save actual changes is to click into
a random field after I am done and then choosing "Close".

[Bug 179917] Re: Quicklauncher settings display French text in English environment

2008-03-07 Thread meist3r
Wow this is just great. Way faster than I ever imagined and you guys did
a great job addressing the problems. I don't use the new version just
yet, I'll wait for the next update of the files (I like to run the repo
versions).

Thanks a lot for solving both of the bugs I submitted and keep up the
fantastic work. People like you are the reason for the success of Linux
and it will be people like you that will make lots of money and fans
with their work in the future. I draw my hat, all my respect.

Merci beaucoup - Thanks a lot

[Bug 465802] Re: nautilus is showing my encrypted lvm volume in the side pane

2009-10-31 Thread meist3r
I've got the same problem with Karmic. It shows a 500GB LVM volume in my
nautilus view and "Places" menu which doesn't respond to my passphrase.
The system works normally and was upgraded from a Jaunty install which I
set up with the Alternate CD and encrypted LVM volumes. Peculiarly it
doesn't even show up in the gvfs-mount list:

System function normal, cryptsetup message and passphrase prompt during
boot as usual and functional.

[Bug 535219] [NEW] http://www.reviewsontherun.com/ topic selection flash crashes Firefox

2010-03-09 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

Loading the website normally I allow all script elements blocked by
NoScript. Then I proceed to click on one of the topics on the right hand
side in the flash menu. This seems to work for a split second and before
the page has reloaded or updated to the new flash video Firefox dies
without any further notice. Can't get video playback to work either.
Either this is a problem with Firefox or poorly implemented Flash player
(seen quite a few of those). If I can produce any more helpful outputs
to diagnose this please tell me.

I Use Ubuntu Karmic 32Bit on a ThinkPad R60. Firefox 3.5.8 as provided
by the Ubuntu repositories.

[Bug 514107] [NEW] Album artwork does not display on next playlist item (mp3)

2010-01-28 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I play MP3 files encoded with Album artwork in the files. When totem
switches to the next playlist item the screen is blanked and the
standard icon is displayed in the video area. Even the slightest
resizing operation on the window restores the album artwork to the video
area. The first time it plays fine but when it switches to the next
track the album cover isn't redrawn.

[Bug 450097] Re: Cannot establish wireless connection

2009-11-08 Thread meist3r
I've got the same problem since I installed Karmic on my Thinkpad. The
hidden WLAN usually connects by itself but every now and then it
doesn't. Usually it happens when I take the machine to a place that
doesn't have wireless and to save battery power I hardware toggle the
wireless function (I got a switch for that on the front). I select my
hidden WPA2 access point from the list of existing "hidden wireless
networks" but the connect button is greyed out and no activity seems to
take place. I have assigned a static IP4 address for this network and
have no trouble using it once it automatically connects. I can work
around this bug by entering my wireless details as a "New" connection in
the menu since it doesn't overwrite the old settings but connects. If
there is any log output or additional information I can provide to help
please let me know. This should be fixed since it basically breaks the
wireless functionality for hidden SSIDs in some cases.

@Mahesh: I don't think it's a router related issue since the network
auth works just fine when it automatically connects. There must be
something wrong with the way the connection process is initiated through
the GUI. At least that is what I assume.

I'm wondering, what machine do you use and do you hardware toggle
wireless before this happens? If it's a ThinkPad as well maybe we can
narrow it down a bit in that regard.

** Summary changed:

- Cannot establish wireless connection
+ Cannot establish existing hidden wireless connection through GUI

[Bug 435343] Re: unsetting the compact option in the preference is broken

2009-10-29 Thread meist3r
I have a similar problem although slightly altered variant of it. I set
"compact layout" for home after the installation and turned it off a
couple of minutes later. Now /home is the only folder that is displayed
in "normal" layout and every other folder has compact layout even though
the tick in nautilus options is NOT set. Ticking the compact layout box
has no effect other than regrouping the icon names on the desktop from
one line to "compact" two lines. The folder view in Nautilus itself is
stuck in compact mode except for /home.

[Bug 435343] Re: unsetting the compact option in the preference is broken

2009-10-29 Thread meist3r
Sorry for being so unprecise before, my manners. I experience this bug
on a clean install of Ubuntu Karmic Koala that I put on my laptop today.
Everything is how it came from the Desktop Install CD and the repository
updates provided by Canonical. I have no confirmed this with my Desktop
PC also. Every folder I set to "Edit / Preferences / Views / Use Compact
Layout" gets individually stuck in compact layout. It seems like it
remembers the settings for each individual folder but refuses to "undo"
the compact layout setting.

I installed jackbeat 0.7.2 through the Ubuntu Software Center in Karmic

on Jack as well as ALSA audio output. The program is utterly unusable
since while I can edit sequences in the UI as soon as I start to play
them or add other samples it bails out.

[Bug 474177] [NEW] Adding multiple computers from same network does not work

2009-11-04 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

I've created a Ubuntu One account through my laptop via my wireless
connection. I want to register both my laptop and my Desktop computer
(which are on the same network) to the account so I can sync files
between them when I am traveling with my laptop. Adding my laptop to the
account worked just fine. On my desktop though I don't even get the
option to add that computer after logging into U1. I would expect that I
get a prompt to add my desktop after logging into my account. The
account "connected computers" section simply refers me to the
installation guide which holds no information on how to add a computer
whatsoever. Syncing files between the two machines is barely possible. I
have to manually up and download each file on the desktop. I don't think
this should be the intended principle behind a syncronization service.

Obviously the desktop ubuntu-one session fails to connect to the
account.

[Bug 1876384] Re: Gnome 3.36 flickering framebuffer line above status bar

2020-05-01 Thread meist3r
I can suppress the behavior temporarily by switching the resolution of
making any changes to the Display settings that cause a refresh (e.g.
change to a lower resolution). Simply discarding the changes will give a
working session. Reloading the GNOME session will only very briefly
affect the phenomenon.

[Bug 1876384] [NEW] Gnome 3.36 flickering framebuffer line above status bar

2020-05-01 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

I'm encountering this problem in both Ubuntu 20.04 and Pop OS 20.04.
When I boot the default X11 session on my AMD graphics card

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] Oland PRO [Radeon R7 240/340]

I get a 1 pixel line above the Gnome status bar that flickers seemingly
with screen refreshes and shows parts of the current frame buffer. You
can sometimes tell that parts of my open browser window (bookmarks bar)
are being displayed there. If the screen and applications on display are
very quiet there isn't much movement but when I move the mouse or hover
over (browser) elements that are seemingly refreshed periodically the
line flashes and redraws with content from the screen.

When I don't move the mouse or do much at all the flickering dies down

If I switch to Wayland this never happens.

[Bug 990210] [NEW] USB Mouse displays odd behavior

2012-04-27 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

I just built a new custom system and installed Ubuntu 12.04 64Bit on the
machine. Unfortunately one problem that I experienced with 11.10 has
apparently carried over. My mouse will randomly do a "back button" event
and navigate Chrome to the previous page. The behavior is random and I
have no way of reproducing it constantly but it occurs on a daily basis.
I can alleviate the issue temporarily by plugging the mouse into another
USB port. At some point the "back button" (side button on the mouse)
will stop working altogether until I replug the mouse or restart the
system. As soon as I replug the mouse to another port or restart the
mouse will resume normal function for a period of time. I have yet to
see this occur in Nautilus since the back button has the same function
there but I only have a few hours into this system and with experiencing
the issue. I will amend the report if that issue crops up in other
applications.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 Precise standard installation from the amd64 iso. Mouse
is a wired USB Logitech MX518.

Expected behavior:

All mouse clicks should be user inputs and translate into relevant
usability.

Actual behavior:

The "back" button on the mouse (standard configuration) will
sporadically trigger and navigate Chrome to the last opened page.

If there is anything I can do to document the behavior please let me
know I am not familiar with polling input information.

Since mouse button behavior is largely governed by evdev in later

somewhere since I experienced the issues with Kernel 3.0.0.19 under

[Bug 955011] [NEW] HTML bookmarks file from other browser is not shown in file dialog

2012-03-14 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

I tried importing my bookmarks from Firefox. I export the bookmarks into
an HTML file through the firefox dialog and place it in a folder. In
Chrome/Chromium I navigate to the bookmark manager and choose "Import
from HTML file" in the resulting file dialog the dropdown menu is
restricted to "application/x-extension-html". This will not allow me to
select any files at all let alone the desired html file.

Expected behavior:

I should be able to select the html file generated by another piece of
software and have the contained bookmarks imported into Chrome/Chromium

Actual behavior:

Can not select any html file to import at all. Impossible to import
bookmarks any way since the import browser data function is broken as
well.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Export bookmarks to HTML file from another browser
2. Open Bookmarks Manager
3. Select "Import from HTML file" in the Organize menu
4. Can not select html file in the file dialog

[Bug 907572] [NEW] Resize shadow shows in Compiz Viewport switcher but is inconsistent

2011-12-21 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

This applies to my 11.10 with the latest proposed updates as of
22/12/2011

In the "Expo" view for the viewport switcher of Compiz (desktop wall
display) you can drag windows via mouse to different viewports.

When moving the mouse to the edges of the screen while "holding" a
window the orange resize overlay box is displayed. This will work for
the left and right edges and place the dragged window in either half of
the selected new workspace. It will not work for the top edge of the
screen to maximize the window.

The workspaces are selected when the mouse moves over the representation
in the desktop wall. I use 6 workspaces in 3x2 columns so the window
will only resize on either the first, third, fourth or sixth workspace
(since those are the left or rightmost workspaces in the top / bottom
column).

Either the resize overlay should not be displayed at all while desktop
wall is displayed or have some consistent functionality that I can
actively select ANY desired workspace and place a properly resized
window on it (this includes the now non-functional maximize).

[Bug 887887] [NEW] Double clicking on application window in workspace switcher will display unassociated resize frame on workspace

2011-11-08 Thread meist3r
Public bug reported:

When using the mouse to switch between workspaces in workspace switcher
a double click on any application window (inevitable on workspaces with
maximised windows) will display an auto-resize frame on the workspace
which is not associated with any window.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Start Workspace Switcher by clicking the icon in the Unity launcher or via
keyboard shortcut
2) Double click on a window contained in one of the workspaces to maximise that
workspace
3) Move mouse against upper, left or right screen edge (lower edge cancels out
this effect)

I run my browser, email client, RSS reader, torrent client, music
library and various other things as maximized windows on seperate
workspaces. This seems to occur only when a particular window is
"selected" or rather "focused" by double click in the switcher view.

Expected behavior:
Double click on a workspace should bring up the workspace regardless whether a
window is clicked or an empty desktop portion. On the selected workspace mouse
movement over the upper, lower and right border should produce no results. Left
border should display Unity launcher as per default behavior.

Actual Results:
Double clicking in workspace switcher seems to give the application windows
some kind of special "focus" that is not used for moving the windows in the
workspace overview. On the maximized workspace upon moving the mouse against
the upper, left or right edge of the screen the "auto resize window" frame
appears and can not be cancelled or adjusted. Moving against the lower edge
does nothing as intended.

On workspaces with maximized windows moving the mouse against the left
screen edge will bring up the Unity launcher as by default but overlay
it with the resize frame which is not associated with the opened
application. One needs to first double-click the Unity panel of the
application to put it back in window mode and then click its title bar
to have the rogue resize frame change the window size accordingly and
disappear. Then manually bring the window back in it's original
maximized state. Unity launcher will accept normal mouse input but the
resize frame does not. The only way to get rid of the resize frame is to
click the title bar of a non-maximized application to have it resized.

Suggestion of actual implementation:
I can see this working as a feature if on moving an application window to
another workspace via the switcher and giving it focus via double click (in
switcher) the application will give me the option (once the new workspace has
been rendered) of selecting upper border (maximize), left or right border (half
screen width) or lower border (no size change). If implemented this way this
needs to be an option that can be disabled.

The behavior right now is just glitchy since once you have moved the
mouse against one of the three resize edges you can not change your
selection. If selection was included this could actually work towards
usability.

[Bug 887887] Re: Double clicking on application window in workspace switcher will display unassociated resize frame on workspace

2011-11-14 Thread meist3r
By "resize frame" I mean the orange overlay that gets rendered on the
screen when prompted to auto-size a window.

http://i.imgur.com/BegLN.png

This I created like described in the bug description, started switcher,
double clicked on maximized Banshee window to bring up workspace 5,
moved mouse against right screen edge. Then the overlay appears and I
have to follow the described procedures to get rid of it.
