Its features include: . * Integration with the mutt, af, and mh/nmh mail readers. * Access to outstanding bug reports to make it easier to identify whether problems have already been reported. * Automatic checking for newer versions of packages. * Optional automatic verification of integrity of packages via debsums. * Support for following-up on outstanding reports. * Optional PGP/GnuPG integration. . reportbug is designed to be used on systems with an installed mail transport agent, like exim or sendmail; however, you can edit the configuration file and send reports using any available mail server. . [Bug 8978] Re: Grub - Error 21 returned
I would like to propose the following solution. Ubuntu should in future releases, when it detects that the disk you are installing it on is not the primary disk (the first disk that gets booted off) the installer should either prompt the user for what to do or add an entry to boot ubuntu using the existing grub (edit menu.lst etc.). If this is not a nice solution for the desktop installation, then it should be added to the server and alternative installation disk. [Bug 320819] Re: package system-tools-backends 2.6.0-1ubuntu1.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Yeah i get it too. It is easy to reproduce. Simply 1. install ubuntu 8.10. 2. reboot after it is done. 3. upgrade -> 4. done... you will hit the error that this user has got right now. The issue is that dpkg / the package is not being told to "stop" -> so it can "start" the newer version. so when the user reboots it is still a problem. I recommend that the initrd script be fixed immediately to include the case where the package is already installed and running. [Bug 342990] [NEW] stopping the dbus daemon logs user out and disabled my keyboard and mouse.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dbus Stopping the dbus daemon logs user out and disabled my keyboard and mouse. This is in ubuntu jaunty, alpha5. I am not sure if this has been fixed or looked into for alpha6. However, reliance on _one_ system daemon for continued operation of the entire system is not a good idea, when that daemon is not critical. Arguing that dbus isn't ever meant to be stopped isn't a solution. Dbus like other computer software is likely to have bugs, some of these might result in dbus being terminated. So now the stability of _ANY_ ubuntu system (desktop) is dependant on the kernel and dbus ? I consider this is a _REAL_ bug. Ok let me make it more clear. The bug isn't that stopping dbus logs a desktop user out. The bug is that the desktop computer is now USELESS. You have to reboot it (if sshing isn't an option). This is a regression from ubuntu 8.10. It is a real bug. I can stop hal on my debian lenny system (no logout), not sure about 8.10 atm , will check later. Point is the system can still run without dbus. If dbus is that important then if dbus ever stops running, it should be relaunched no ? We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
