[Bug 223162] Re: Pressing shutdown button in hardy causes system to lock up

2008-06-19 Thread Alexandru
I have the same problem, 90% of ocasions when I press the
GnomeMenu->System->Quit, the system continues to work, but doesnt respond to
mouse clicks, or
keyboard. Only thing that I can do, is to press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, and then
Shutdown from GDM menu.

firefox-3.0+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8
exaile-0.2.11
TuxGuitar-1.0-rc2

[Expected to happen]

When listening music through Exaile, Audacious and start Firefox with a flash
movie, expect to be played both sounds, from Exaile and from firefox.
The same I expect from tuxguitar, when it is started, other programs also
should use sound.

[What happen instead]

When I start TuxGuitar to play, and Exaile is already started and playing,
TuxGuitar give me error saying that MIDI system is unavailable.
When I start all this programs separatly firefox+flash, tuxguitar and exaile
the sound works ok.

>From my observation is like each program firefox(flash), tuxguitar(timidity++)
>and exaile(??) are blocking the sound output just for their own use.
But also I tested Totem and Exaile, they are able to play simultaniosly, each
playing their song.

Have a nice day and best regards,
Alexandru.

i have the same problem , but for me it appeared only since i upgraded

i did not have this problem / did not feel it that much with 8.10

[Bug 219449] Re: Invalid diacritics used in Romanian translation

2009-01-12 Thread Alexandru Szasz
The best way to fix this it at user level, through javascript for example. This
would cover search and save as well.
Either convince LP people to include a js snippet for romanian language (it
shouldn't be too hard to do) or you can ask the translators to use FoxReplace
for example for Firefox or some custom made addon that replaces this diacritics.

[Bug 214193] Re: Romanian spell-check dictionary uses incorect diacritics

2009-02-16 Thread Alexandru Szasz
Guys, users don't care about versioning, they just need the dictionary
with the most words and the correct writing scheme. There is no sense in
distributing the wrong cedilla version, as you all know there is a law
that says we should use the correct comma version in official writings,
so I see no sense in giving Ubuntu users a headache. The X.org comes
with a comma keymap by default. "Readable" is not an excuse because if
the user is typing commas he won't be able to search the document.
"Usable" is more important. As you *need* to install software to view
documents you can install fonts to view documents. Changing a keymap is
not that simple and distributing a spell-checker that marks correct
incorrect writing is very wrong.

So Jani, could you repeat your solution with comma involved ? IMHO it
doesn't matter what versioning scheme you choose to use as long as
you're comitted to maintain the package.

[Bug 186354] Re: X server has huge memory leaks

2008-09-06 Thread Alexandru Armean
i also have this memory leak in Xorg.

here are my specs :

X.Org X Server 1.4.0.90
Release Date: 5 September 2007
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux Ubuntu (xorg-server
2:1.4.1~git20080131-1ubuntu9.2)
Current Operating System: Linux venus 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20
17:53:40 UTC 2008 x86_64
Build Date: 13 June 2008 01:10:57AM

Ubuntu 8.04.1 all the updates installed.

i have seen a positive correlation between opening (/using) firefox and
the increase in memory usage by the Xorg process. In Firefox i have the
npwrapper flash plugin. i have the latest nvidia drivers installed and
use xinerama over 3 monitors ( trough 2 graphic cards ).

I have a similar problem with HP LaserJet 6L printer on x86 machine. It
simply does not work and it does not even print a test page or anything.
I use Xubuntu and I used system_config_printer.py to add the printer and
configure it.

search for "stop)" and comment out the next 6 lines after it (the two if/fi

2) dpkg -P --force-all hotkey-setup

[Bug 119991] Re: gaim crash - core dump

2007-06-12 Thread Alexandru Armean
i found out that it is related to the fact that i have guarddog
installed and i have setup a very restrictive firewall. After executing
"iptables -F ; iptables -P INPUT ACCEPT" , gaim started correctly
(without segmentation fault) but without beeing able to connect to the
IM Networks. Of course that worked after running "iptables -P OUTPUT
ACCEPT". So i think the crash is realated to the rules created by
guarddog.

** Summary changed:

- gaim crash - core dump
+ gaim crash - core dump with enabled guarddog

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gaim

[Bug 273490] Re: Totem-plugin-viewer shows visual effects even disabled.

2010-04-30 Thread Alexandru Nedel
The problem described in the title was definitely _not_ fixed.
Totem plugin shows visual effects even disabled
with gconf-editor or the standalone totem program's configuration dialog
(same effect: only the standalone totem honors /apps/totem/show_vfx = false)
I'm using Ubuntu 10.4.

I think this bug should be reopened.
I'm not sure what are the correct procedures, please advise.

[Bug 432372] [NEW] Fail to connect to WPA/WPA2 networks with network manager

I cannot connect to any wpa/wpa2 network (however, lots of SSIDs around, 100+,
I did apply the patch for iwlist in order not to have the allocation failed
error)
I'm usin an Intel 4965 abgn card

I see already existant bugs with this problem so this might be a dupe.
-in a lesser SSID number environment (with wpa1) everything works fine.
-scanning takes for some reason ages (again maybe due to 100+ SSIDs)

[Bug 459716] Re: encrypted modes don't work on ndiswrapper wireless adapters

2010-01-10 Thread Alexandru Bolboaca
I've tried the fix to wpa_supplicant startup script but the daemon still has
priority 0. I know this because I tried renice and it says it had priority 0.
After renice, the wireless still doesn't work.

This issue is really annoying for me...

[Bug 1813371] [NEW] OVS 2.9+ systemd integration issues

2019-01-25 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
Public bug reported:

For a few months now, we have been using OVS 2.9 (or newer) on Ubuntu Xenial in
OPNFV, both with and without DPDK.
A while ago, we observed a couple of rare race conditions when multiple Linux
interfaces/bridges are mixed with OVS ports/bridges. We also observed races
between DPDK binding and openvswitch-switch (actually openvswitch-switch-dpdk
configured using alternatives).
We worked around those issues by using a solution derived from the official OVS
Debian readme, which recommends avoiding using `auto` for OVS bridges. Instead,
we used `auto` for OVS bridges, but omitted the `auto` for the OVS ports in
them. That worked almost perfectly for a while.

However, we recently bumped a few unrelated software components (since
we migrated from Queens to Rocky in OPNFV) and we started experiecing
race conditions again.

So I dugg a bit and found a couple of things:

1. Broken dependency between ovsdb-server/ovs-vswitchd systemd services and
networking.service
This is probably a copy-pasta error from [1] `Before: network.service` which
should probably be `Before: networking.service` on Debian systems.
The consequence is quite serious - on Debian systems, the OVS services start
*after* networking.service.
Changing this leads to a service order change, which turns out to be quite the
rabbit hole ...

2. Outdated ifupdown scripts
For example /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/openvswitch still references the old
`openvswitch-nonetwork.service`.
Luckily, this is not critical, as the fallback uses `service openvswitch-switch
[...]`, so I'm not sure this should be changed, but I thought it's worth
mentioning.

3. Debian OVS does *not* handle OVS bridges without `auto`
Upstream OVS readme recommends ommitting `auto` for OVS bridges, as mentioned
earlier, to avoid exactly the race conditions we saw.
Although following the recommendation in the upstream readme leads to a working
system (`networking.service` no longer fails to start due to missing OVS
bridges and/or vice-versa - ovs services no longer complain about Linux
interfaces being in down state when trying to add them to OVS bridges), OVS
bridges end up in DOWN state since nobody bothers to ifup them.
Imo, networking.service (or some *other* mechanism) should call `/sbin/ifup
--allow=ovs -a --read-environment` *after* the initial `/sbin/ifup -a
--read-enviroment` (provided the ordering issue #1 was changed to start OVS
first, of course).

4. ovsdb-server should never start before DPDK service if DPDK is installed
This should actually be easy to fix and I have to admit I haven't run into it
lately, although I remember it being an issue a while ago.
Anyway, a simple `After: dpdk.service` wouldn't hurt.

5. If OVS starts before networking.service, cloud-init causes cyclic
dependencies
If we configure OVS services to start first, systemd might decide to randomly
remove some units to break the following circular dependency:
  ovs-vswitchd --> ovsdb-server -(default dep)-> sysinit.target -->
  cloud-init.service --> networking.service --> ovs-vswitchd
In my tests, I just set 'DefaultDependencies=no' for OVS services, although
this might require explicitly adding back some of the indirect dependencies of
`sysinit.target`, so it's a sensible recommendation.

On my test systems, I didn't bother handling #2, as for the others I
have some systemd drop-ins (see below), which so far seem to produce
reproductible working environments.

# cat /etc/systemd/system/ovsdb-server.service.d/override.conf
[Unit]
After=dpdk.service
Before=networking.service
DefaultDependencies=no

# cat /etc/systemd/system/networking.service.d/ovs_workaround.conf
[Service]
ExecStart=/sbin/ifup --allow=ovs -a --read-environment

# cat /etc/systemd/system/ovs-vswitchd.service.d/override.conf
[Unit]
Before=networking.service
DefaultDependencies=no

debian/rules.d/2-binary-arch.mk:113: recipe for target 'install-aws' failed

The failure is related to task
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+git/bionic/tree/debian/rules.d/2-binary-arch.mk?h=aws-5.4#n405
which is trying to download via http some source files for the Nvidia DKMS
and it is failing, hence leading to the whole kernel build to fail.

Trying to fetch the file affected from other systems (using different
internet providers) does not work. Example:

$ wget

Given that there is a recent commit to change exactly the above mentioned file
versions:

[Bug 1897729] [NEW] FeatureFreeze exception for new Pitivi release

2020-09-29 Thread Alexandru Băluț
Public bug reported:

This exception is necessary because otherwise Pitivi will not be
available at all in Ubuntu to GNOME users.

Upstream does not have a ChangeLog. The ChangeLog diff would have been
huge. Many new features have been introduced past three years without
being included in any official release. The new features are part of the
upstream flatpak build since they have been merged. The new features
have had user exposure, so the risk of introducing buggy features is
minimal. Also, Pitivi has an extensive set of tests for both the
functionality and the UI.

As we're about to make a new release, the Debian package is not ready
yet. I'm filing this issue in advance.

Sorry for the timing, we did our best given the resources, at the time
we found out Pitivi risks not being included in Ubuntu.

[Bug 1914738] [NEW] Touchpad scrolling is stuck in Natural mode

2021-02-05 Thread Alexandru Cabuz
Public bug reported:

If I change the touchpad scrolling direction in gnome settings, the usb
wireless mouse does change scrolling direction, but the touchpad does
not. No matter what I do, it is always in Natural mode, i.e. scrolling
moves the content, not the view.

Looking in /proc/bus/input/devices I do not see an entry for TouchPad.
Here is the full contents of that file.

[Bug 1797332] Re: qemu nested virtualization is not working with Ubuntu16.04 + Intel CPU

2019-02-22 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
FWIW, bumping the kernel on the host (and most likely on the L1 VMs too) should
work.
The HWE kernel in Xenial is the same version (4.15) with the kernel used by
Bionic (18.04), so this should fix the problem:
$ apt install linux-generic-hwe-16.04
$ reboot

BR,
Alex

[Bug 1667920] [NEW] login screen freeze

2017-02-25 Thread Alexandru Chirvasitu
Public bug reported:

Running an up-to-date (as of Feb 25 2017) 16.04 / Unity on an old MSI
U160 netbook.

After a recent update to kernel 4.4.0-63 I have started getting frozen
login screens. The touchpad and keyboard are completely dead (before I
ever get to enter my password), and my only way out is to force
shutdown.

I can start GRUB on boot and go for an earlier version instead, but
everything past 4.4.0-62 freezes in the same fashion (that's what I'm
currently running as a temporary fix); a newer update to 4.4.0-64 has
not fixed the issue.

[Bug 1582181] Re: AArch64: slow cpuinfo due to redundant loop

2017-12-28 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
I see nobody acted on this, so I sent a PR [1] upstream.
Will update this ticket if it gets pulled.

[Bug 1720036] [NEW] Initramfs configuration hook overlayroot sets CRYPTSETUP=1

2017-09-27 Thread Alexandru Panoiu
Public bug reported:

Running Ubuntu Server 17.10 preview downloaded from cdimages.ubuntu.com.

update-initramfs produces a warning complaining that CRYPSETUP should
not be set in /etc/initramfs.conf, but in /etc/cryptsetup-initramfs
/conf-hook. This happens with or without full disk encryption.

$ sudo update-initramfs -u
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-12-generic
WARNING: Setting CRYPTSETUP in /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf is
deprecated and will stop working in the future. Use
/etc/cryptsetup-initramfs/conf-hook instead.

Further investigation showed that the warning is produced by the script
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/cryptroot, part of package cryptsetup.
The warning is caused by the configuration file /usr/share/initramfs-
tools/conf-hooks.d/overlayroot, part of the package overlayroot, which
sets CRYPTSETUP=1. Both packages are dependencies on ubuntu-server and
get installed by default.

[Bug 1733802] [NEW] zfs destroy, dataset is busy; zpool export tank, umount failed

2017-11-22 Thread Simionica Alexandru
Public bug reported:

1.) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10

2.) apt-cache policy zfsutils-linux

  Installed: 0.6.5.11-1ubuntu3
  Candidate: 0.6.5.11-1ubuntu3
  Version table:

3.) modinfo zfs |head
filename: /lib/modules/4.13.0-17-generic/kernel/zfs/zfs/zfs.ko
version:0.6.5.11-1ubuntu3

I use the /dev/zvol/tank/zvolpathshere blockdevices as hdd for vms(for
qemu 2.10.1 machines). I check to see if the qemu process terminates, it
does. I check with lsof to see if there are any handles open to my zvol
paths, there aren't any. The zvols do not have any snapshots. The zvols
are not mounted with mount because i checked

But when i enter:
- zfs destroy tank/clones/os/hdd_X it says "dataset is busy"
- zfs export tank it says "umount failed"

All i can do is:
- zfs rename tank/clones/os/hdd_x tank/trash/hdd_X_bad

The only way to delete those zvols is after the server reboots, my very
last option..

So, in my case, the kernel modules were not removed properly.

[Bug 1672521] [NEW] ThunderX: soft lockup on 4.8+ kernels

2017-03-13 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
Public bug reported:

I have been trying to easily reproduce this for days.
We initially observed it in OPNFV Armband, when we tried to upgrade our Ubuntu
Xenial installation kernel to linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04 (4.8).

In our environment, this was easily triggered on compute nodes, when launching
multiple VMs (we suspected OVS, QEMU etc.).
However, in order to rule out our specifics, we looked for a simple way to
reproduce it on all ThunderX nodes we have access to, and we finally found it:

$ apt-get install stress-ng
$ stress-ng --hdd 1024

We tested different FW versions, provided by both chip/board manufacturers, and
with all of them the result is 100% reproductible, leading to a kernel Oops [1]:
[ 726.070531] INFO: task kworker/0:1:312 blocked for more than 120 seconds.

Over the last few days, I tested all 4.8-* and 4.10 (zesty backport), the soft
lockup happens with each and every one of them.
On the other hand, 4.4.0-45-generic seems to work perfectly fine (probably
newer 4.4.0-* too, but due to a regression in the ethernet drivers after
4.4.0-45, we can't test those with ease) under normal conditions, yet running
stress-ng leads to the same oops.

Over the last few days, I tested all 4.8-* and 4.10 (zesty backport), the
soft lockup happens with each and every one of them.

[Bug 1672521] Re: ThunderX: soft lockup on 4.8+ kernels

2017-03-14 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
Hi,
I tried out 4.11-rc1 a few days ago. Unfortunately, I did not get the board to
boot properly from the start, since ThunderX networking drivers failed to
allocate MSI-X/MSI interrupts, and polling on some registers also failed ...

So, with 4.11-rc1, at least one networking interfaces was never coming
online due to unmapped interrupts/failed polling, but unloading `nicpf`
and reloading it seemed to work (networking worked after this). After
this, the soft lockup happened, but I can't be sure I did not mess
something else.

Let me try this again and get back to you with some proper logs, but off
the top of my head, things got worse with 4.11-rc1 ...

Thanks,
Alex

2017-03-14 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
4.11-rc1 console log attached.
Board firmware is latest available on Gigabyte's site (T31).

1. Install 4.11-rc1 (`make modules_install install`) and reboot
2. Observe networking driver issues in boot log
   Dmesg: 4.11-rc1_dmesg_on_clean_boot.log [3]
3. Try `ping google.com`, obviously not working
4. `modprobe -r nicpf` (leads to multiple oopses in dmesg)
Console log: 4.11-rc1_modprobe_r_nicpf_output.log [1]
Dmesg :4.11-rc1_dmesg_after_modprobe_r_nicpf.log [2]
5. `modprobe nicpf` (this usually works, and afterwards network is up and
running - not sure whether ALL interfaces are ok, as not all of them are
connected) - however this time it led to a soft lockup (see full logs attached
here);

[Bug 1667920] Re: login screen freeze

2017-03-14 Thread Alexandru Chirvasitu
The 4.4.41 version you linked to exhibits the same behaviour as 4.4.0-66
(and 4.8.17, which I've also installed manually): lets me log in, but
then freezes immediately.

---

Another bit of info, in case it helps:

I've also tried booting directly in tty mode via

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="3"

and uncommented

GRUB_TERMINAL=console

in /etc/default/grub

In that mode, 4.4.0-63 up to 4.4.0-66 as well as 4.8.17 behave very
similarly: they give me an unfrozen login shell. I can enter my username
and password, whereupon I get a trace (wall of text) I'm not qualified
to make sense of and a freeze.

[Bug 1630038] Re: thunder nic: avoid link delays due to RX_PACKET_DIS

2017-03-19 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
Hi,
This fix introduced a regression with ThunderX nodes (CRB-1S, CRB-2S) and our
10G switch (Extreme Networks x670 10GE L3).
We have opened a downstream bug report [1], where we temporarily bypassed this
by pinning the kernel to 4.4.0-45.
I also tested 4.8 (multiple builds), 4.10 and 4.11-rc1 (vanilla); all are still
affected by link training issues with our switch, with 4.11-rc1 not working at
all and reporting more issues (logs attached in a different LP comment [2]).

BR,
Alex

[Bug 1630038] Re: thunder nic: avoid link delays due to RX_PACKET_DIS

2017-03-21 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
Hi,

1) We tested different models (CRB-1S, CRB-2S) - all behave the same.
2) Please check the logs "ThunderX 4.11-rc1 console log" in [2] linked above. I
don't think firmware version makes a difference for this issue (we saw the same
bug with firmwares: T22, T27, T31).

All in all, this issue seems pretty tied to the switch we use, and all
firmware/board model combinations behaved the same ...

Thanks,
Alex

[Bug 1672521] Re: ThunderX: soft lockup on 4.8+ kernels

2017-03-21 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
Hi, Dann,
First of all, I think the bug title is misleading, as this issue happens on all
kernels we tested (4.4.0-45..66, 4.8.0-x, 4.10.0-x etc).

To be fair, we haven't this exact bug (or at least I don't think we did)
in practice, i.e. without running stress-ng, 4.4.0-x never ever crashed.

The VM use case turned out to be a different bug [1], triggered 100% by
AAVMF + vhost.

Let me know if I can provide anything else.
I consider this particular bug minor (if we don't poke it with stress-ng,
everything works well), compared to AAVMF + vhost [1].

Thanks,
Alex

[Bug 1674837] [NEW] thunder nic: RX_PACKET_DIS fix regression with Extreme Networks switch

2017-03-21 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
Public bug reported:

Upstream backport [3] introduced a regression with ThunderX nodes (CRB-1S,
CRB-2S) and our 10G switch (Extreme Networks x670 10GE L3).

I also confirmed that reverting the commit in questions fixes the issues
in our setup (tested on top of 4.10.0-13 linux-image-generic-hwe-edge
package from Xenial).

[Bug 1667920] Re: login screen freeze

2017-03-03 Thread Alexandru Chirvasitu
The upstream versions of 4.4.52 I have tested are also still booting
fine for me (plain and low latency; tested multiple times by now).

The downstream versions are still freezing though, up to and including
4.4.0-65, to which I updated yesterday.

[Bug 1667920] Re: login screen freeze

2017-03-03 Thread Alexandru Chirvasitu
I've enabled -proposed, but when running apt update no linux packages
are listed (I've tried with apt list --upgradable). I am sure the system
sees the -proposed package archive because I get plenty of suggestions
for upgrade, just nothing that looks like a kernel.

So which package would I have to install?
