The problem described in the title was definitely _not_ fixed. Totem plugin shows visual effects even disabled with gconf-editor or the standalone totem program's configuration dialog (same effect: only the standalone totem honors /apps/totem/show_vfx = false) I'm using Ubuntu 10.4.
I think this bug should be reopened.
