[Bug 383531] [NEW] unnecessary "Display expert settings" in enigmail configuration window

2009-06-04 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: enigmail

How to reproduce the bug:
 - install thunderbird and enigmail
 - set up enigmail
 - choose "OpenPGP -> Preferences" from the menu.

As you can see on the attached screenshot, there is a checkbox
"Display expert settings". However, checking the box does not make a difference
at all.
There are no expert settings, so the checkbox is not necessary, and a bit
confusing for the user.

Best regards,
  Zeno

2009-06-04 Thread Zeno Gantner
Hi Till, sorry for the late reply,

The information above is (was) the computer I ran evince and lpr on.
The "server" is a remote printer with a network card, an HP Laserjet 4250dtn.

Does that help?

btw, the client information has changed.
Still the same behavior, for both long and short edge.

Best regards,
  Z.

Hi John,

thanks for the quick response.

On my Launchpad account, I see that the bug has vanished, which is fine
for me, because I know that it will be OK as soon the new enigmail
version is in Ubuntu.

Isn't the bug report archived somewhere?
When searching for "enigmail", I do not see it any more.
So if another user has this problem (which seems likely), he will report
it again.

 Zeno

[Bug 335444] [NEW] confusing description in ln manpage: -f "destination"

2009-02-27 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: coreutils

The manpage for ln uses "destination" in a very strange name.
As I understand it, and as described in the SYNOPSIS, a link is created in
order to point to a target:

LINK_NAME --> TARGET

The -f option forces the deletion of the file "LINK_NAME" in the case it
already exists.

However, the man page says:
   -f, --force
  remove existing destination files

I am not a native speaker of English, but I think that "target" means
more or less "destination", and the use of "destination" is quite
confusing here, because actually -f will lead the deletion of the file
with the same name as LINK_NAME.

Best regards,
  Zeno

[Bug 278166] [NEW] svm-scale manpage contains misleading information

2008-10-04 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libsvm-tools

The manpage to svm-scale contains the following lines which explain the
-s and -r options:

  -s save_filename
  save_filename indicates the filename to save the scaled data to.

   -r restore_filename
  restore_filename indicates the filename reserved to hold the
  original (unscaled) data in case there is a need to restore.

In reality, the scaled data is written to STDOUT, and the range information for
each feature is written to save_filename.
This range information can then be used in order to use the same scaling
function for a different data set (typically the test data), which is done with
the -r parameter.

For example:
svm-scale -l 0 -u 1 -s range training.data > training.data_scaled
svm-scale -l 0 -u 1 -r range test.data > test.data_scaled

To fix this issue, I suggest to add the sentence

"The scaled data is written to STDOUT." to the section DESCRIPTION
and replace the option descriptions above by

  -s save_filename
  save_filename indicates the filename to save the scaling
parameters to.

   -r restore_filename
  restore_filename indicates the filename reserved to hold the
  scaling parameters in case there is a need to use this information
  to perform the same scaling operation on a similar dataset.

  Zeno

[Bug 318007] [NEW] wesnoth: empty mission goals shown while opponent is moving

2009-01-16 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wesnoth

Ctrl+j is the key shortcut to display the mission goals.
Usually, this works fine.

When the opponent is moving, pressing Ctrl+j also opens the "mission goals"
window.
However, in this situation the mission goals are not displayed.
In my German-language setup, it says "Keine Missionsziele vorhanden" ("no
mission goals present") instead.

I know, this is not in any way critical, but it is a bug ...

This is a wishlist bug.

It would be nice to have also bash-completion for bibtex.
For pdflatex and latex, for instance, this is already included with

For bibtex, it may be more complicated, but it would be neat to have it.

[Bug 318036] [NEW] wishlist: weka should include libsvm.jar

2009-01-16 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: weka

As of now, Weka does not include libsvm.jar (which is the Java version of
LIBSVM),
even though it is needed to run the SVM classifier in Weka.

libsvm.jar is included in standard distribution of LIBSVM, and is free
software, so it should not be a problem to
a) include it in the package, or
b) package it and make a dependency.

I would encourage b), as libsvm.jar could be useful in other contexts as
well.

  Zeno

[Bug 109155] Re: workrave's counter does not update

I was referring to the bug reports in Workrave's and Debian's own bug tracking
systems, not to bug reports in launchpad.
I could have made that clearer, though.

[Bug 164705] attachment paper clip not always shown in list view (IMAP)

2007-11-23 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

This report may be related to bug #121741, I am not entirely sure about
it, though.

ii  thunderbird-locale-en-gb   1:2.0.0.0+1-0ubuntu1
 Thunderbird English language/region package

When I use thunderbird to access my IMAP account, e-mails are often presented
(in the overview) as not containing attachments,
even though they actually do contain one or more attachments.

In the Inbox, the attachment status is always shown correctly.

If I move the mail to another folder, it is presented without the paper clip,
that is normally used to indicate the presence of an attachment.
Once I click on a mail with attachment, the paper clip appears and remains,
even after restarting Thunderbird.
For bigger attachments, it takes some time until the clip appears.
If I move the mail to a third folder (not the Inbox!), the clip disappears
again.
Once I move it back to the second folder, the clip is there again.

The correct behavior should be to always indicate the presence of an
attachment by showing the paper clip.

Best regards,
  Zeno

it).

[Bug 201227] [NEW] (hardy) hal does not recognize iPod nano 3rd generation any more

2008-03-11 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

I have two computers with Ubuntu on them, one with Gutsy, one with Hardy.
Although I haven't managed to get any of them to cooperate satisfactorily with
the 3rd generation iPod nano 8GB, hardy seems to have more problems recognizing
the iPod in general than gutsy.

The iPod shows up in Banshee on gutsy, but not on hardy.
Following the troubleshooting instructions on
http://banshee-project.org/Troubleshooting/iPod
I checked how HAL recognizes the device, with the following results:

1. On gutsy, it shows up as an "iPod" device in hal-device-manager, as
described on the troubleshooting page (although I do not see the "volume" part,
even though the filesystem _is_ mounted)
2. On hardy, it show up as an "USB Mass Storage Interface" device in
gnome-device-manager.

If you can't wait (or want to help finding last-minute bugs), you can upgrade

[Bug 459131] Re: privoxy filters out aptitude package manager by default in 9.10

2010-04-15 Thread Zeno Gantner
I have the same behavior even after removing privoxy.

To me it seems like this could be a leftover after changing the proxy settings
via "System" -> "Settings".
I configured back to "no proxies", but I still get the behavior.

I also get this behavior with lynx and wget.
I don't have any problem with graphical browsers like Firefox, they work fine.

I am not sure which package exactly causes the problem.

If you need more information about my setup, please tell me.

[Bug 238143] Re: bug status "triaged" is ambiguous

2010-04-16 Thread Zeno Gantner
I think this page describes the meaning of "triaged" in the context of
Launchpad:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status

Even if there is a place where "Triaged" is defined, the term still has
the problem that it is not easily understandable what is exactly meant.

One problem is that "confirmed" may sound stronger, even though it refers
actually to an earlier stage of the bug lifecycle.
I am not sure though, as I am not a native speaker.
On the other hand, this is an international project, and there are many
non-native speakers participating.

Martin (see above) suggested "Accepted", which IMHO is clearer than
"triaged", stronger and more official-sounding than "confirmed", so this
may be a solution that avoids ambiguities.

[Bug 539598] [NEW] gendarme needs Mono.Cecil.Mdb.dll in order to have line number outputs

2010-03-16 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

In order to have line number information (like the following), gendarme
needs Mono.Cecil.Mdb.dll:

Problem: The method uses literal "" instead of String.Empty.
* Severity: Medium, Confidence: High
* Target:   System.Void
MyMediaProject.RecommenderSystem.Algorithms.Utils.EngineStorage::SaveModel(MyMediaProject.RecommenderSystem.Framework.EntityRelationAlgorithm.IEntityRelationEngine,System.String,System.String)
* Source:   /home/mrg/MyMedia/trunk/WP4/Algorithms/Utils/EngineStorage.cs(≈27)

Currently, there is no dependency defined to a package that provides the
mentioned .dll

In that case, the output looks like this:

Problem: The method uses literal "" instead of String.Empty.
* Severity: Medium, Confidence: High
* Target:   System.Void
MyMediaProject.RecommenderSystem.Algorithms.Utils.EngineStorage::LoadModel(MyMediaProject.RecommenderSystem.Framework.EntityRelationAlgorithm.IEntityRelationEngine,System.String,System.String)
* Source: debugging symbols unavailable, IL offset 0x0001

A quick fix is to use e.g. the .dll file included in the last version of
MonoDevelop (which I take from their subversion repository):
sudo ln -s /usr/local/lib/monodevelop/bin/Mono.Cecil.Mdb.dll /usr/lib/gendarme

The version in Debian testing is 3.14.1, so I would assume it will be fixed
with the next Ubuntu release:
https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=meld

I have no idea how Ubuntu handles bug fixes in between releases, sorry.

[Bug 1002383] [NEW] Confusing use of the term password/passphrase

2012-05-21 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

Some of the tools in ecryptfs-utils use the term "passphrase" for the
user's login password, which is usually referred to as "password".

I guess it would be better to use "password" for the login password, to
avoid confusion with the encryption passphrase.

e.g. in this tool: ecryptfs-unwrap-passphrase

[Bug 1002386] [NEW] ecryptfs-migrate-home only shows usage information

2012-05-21 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

sudo ecryptfs-migrate-home -u zgantner

(where zgantner is my username) does not work for me.

I only see the usage information.

My workaround was to change

DO_ENCRYPT=
while true; do
   [ -z "$1" ] && break
   case "$1" in
   -u|--user)
   DO_ENCRYPT=1
   USER_NAME="$2"
   shift 2
   ;;
   *)
   usage
   ;;
   esac
done

into

DO_ENCRYPT=1
USER_NAME=zgantner
#while true; do
#   [ -z "$1" ] && break
#   case "$1" in
#   -u|--user)
#   DO_ENCRYPT=1
#   USER_NAME="$2"
#   shift 2
#   ;;
#   *)
#   usage
#   ;;
#   esac
#done

I am no shell scripting guru, so I am not sure what the code in the while loop
actually does.
Could it be that it works nicely with bash, but not with dash?

ls -lh  /bin/sh

gives

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 Mar 29 20:53 /bin/sh -> dash

[Bug 1814889] [NEW] Dock does not change position nor icon size

2019-02-06 Thread Zeno Gantner
Public bug reported:

I cannot change the position of the dock.

How to reproduce (on my system):

Either:
(a) open the settings -> Dock and select a different value for the dock, e.g.
"Bottom", or
(b) enter "gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock dock-position
BOTTOM" in the command line

Expected result: In both cases, the dock should move to the bottom of
the screen.

Actual result: The dock remains at the same position.

Additional observations:
1. I also cannot change the icon size (only tried via GUI, not command line).
2. All the behavior is observed no matter what other settings (auto-hide, show
on) I pick.
3. This describes a similar (the same?) problem:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1061924/ubuntu-wont-register-dock-settings-changes-in-18-04#new-answer

Screenshots are attached.

Please let me know if I should provide additional information.
I am a fairly technical user, and I am willing to put in some effort to get
this resolved.

So for me, the issue is okay now -- which does not mean things like this
should happen.

behavior.
