[Bug 292943] [NEW] Missing fast-user-switch icon from Notification Area

2008-11-02 Thread Vinay
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Hardy to Interpid, an icon for fast-switch-user
applet (Logout button) is missing from the notification area (task bar,
i.e. near the clock, topmost right hand corner) on the panel.

I am not sure whether its bug or it has been removed purposefully. If it
has been removed, can somebody tell the configuration for that to
enable!

Thanx

[Bug 77321] html tidy

2007-01-03 Thread vinay
Public bug reported:

Introduction

Nature is life we can not think any thing without this.If we want
healthy and wealthy life so we walk with nature as he moves. In each and
every stage we have to stand with nature likes a security guard.
Environment Support Group (ESG) is an independent non-profit voluntary
organization, registered as a Public Charitable Trust. Our area of work
involves research, documentation, advocacy, training and campaign
support on a variety of environmental and social justice issues. We are
amongst the foremost proponents in India for the reform of environmental
decision making processes urging that the same be made more
participatory and environmentally and socially just.

ESG is a core member of Bangalore Response, a network of various NGOs and
health based organisations in Bangalore responding with disaster relief. During
the January 2001 Gujarat Earthquake ESG played a significant role in
coordinating and disseminating earthquake relief and rehabilitation information.
ESG projects cover a range of issues but a common theme is that of
incorporating environmental and social justice concerns with community
participation and involvement in decision making.

ESG organizes or participates in facilitating public meetings and workshops
with a view to raising awareness in the community, judiciary and government
bodies about environmental issues, environmental law, and the citizens' Rights.
Films are a medium through which to promote a message to a wider audience and
ESG has thus far been involved in the making of two films.

Ourcampaigns typically address environmental, social and economic justice
issues, and often involve lobbying for compliance with environmental
legislation by corporations, government authorities and individuals.

Our involvement in a campaign begins either when another individual or
group approaches ESG for comments or assistance, or when we ourselves
find issue with a particular development project/investment.

There is a plethora of environmental legislation in India, but it is
rarely enforced.Furthermore, it appears that the public are not aware of
their Rights with respect to environmental laws. For instance, public
hearings in which all affected parties are permitted to participate are
mandatory for certain types of projects, however this is not a commonly
known fact.

With each campaign, we seek to engage the public, government bodies and
corporations and create awareness about the provisions of and
enforcement of environmental legislation in India.A core factor in
campaign work are the needs and wishes of project affected communities,
and we seek to ensure that these are addressed.

[Bug 1921589] [NEW] Update to latest version suggests removing phpmyadmin

2021-03-27 Thread Vinay
Public bug reported:

I have Ubuntu 21.10. The current version of php7.4-cli is
7.4.11-1ubuntu4. The `apt update` is suggesting an update to php7.4-cli
version 7.4.16-1ubuntu2. However, it is suggesting to remove

The phpmyadmin version is 4:4.9.7+dfsg1-1. The update of php7.4 from
7.4.11-1ubuntu4 to 7.4.16-1ubuntu2 does not cause any such issue!

Note: this is not just with php7.4-cli, but with php7.4-common,

[Bug 957384] [NEW] xmodmap arrowkeys are not working in unity dash

2012-03-16 Thread vinay
Public bug reported:

using ubuntu 11.10;

I am using remapped arrow keys (using xmodmap).
The mapping is :
CapsLock -> Mode Switch
h - left, l - right, j - down, k - up
Which means pressing [capslock] and [j] together
gives me the same functionality as pressing [down] arrow key.

However in unity dash, this doesnt seem to work.
I am unable to navigate through the options listed by dash
using my remapped arrow keys.

For example in dash, typing "fir" and
by pressing some [down] arrows i can reach firefox.
The same is not possible with my remapped keys.

thank you
:)

[Bug 1101815] Re: You don't have got the required privileges to perform this action.

2013-03-08 Thread Vinay
Its a matter of debate whether to call this a bug or not! However the
simplest solution is to change/modify the error text.

Reproducible: Yes
Ways to reproduce: If a program (e.g. gnome-language-selector) asks for
installation of another package, click "Cancel" in the authentication window.

Error details:
org.freedesktop.PolicyKit.Error.NotAuthorized: ('system-bus-name', {'name':
':1.200'}): org.debian.apt.install-or-remove-packages

Hope this is good enough description!

This bug is not fixed with the mainline kernel

[Bug 1030992] Re: notebook crashes on battery with particular wlan or other pcie devices enabled dell vostro 3700

2012-07-30 Thread Vinay
@Christian,
Can you try to ssh to this "affected" system from outside? My experience is
(was) even if the system is frozen, the ssh terminal is active and is not aware
of freezing.

This will help you in looking at the logs and current running processes.

HTH, regards

[Bug 1031779] Re: Quantal alternate amd64 and i386 daily build(20120801) installation failed: Configuring 'pkgsel' failed with error code 1

2012-08-02 Thread Vinay
Bug confirmed. Here is a detailed description: The package
"libexttextcat-data" is available for upgrade. However the upgrade
suggests removal of several packages including libreoffice-core,
libreoffice-calc, libreofice-writer, etc. Upon proceeding further, it is
not possible to install any of these packages. Attempt to install
libreoffice-base

libreoffice-base:
Depends: libreoffice-core but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libreoffice-base-core but it is not going to be installed

Digging further into the dependancies it seems the error is at the equality of
version (instead of inequality >=) in libexttextcat0.

libexttextcat0:
Depends: libexttextcat-data (=3.2.0-2ubuntu1) but 3.3.1-2 is to be installed

I have same problem, however for me, the package "dconf" is NOT

"ubuntu-desktop" and "unity", which is abusrd! So could there be a
problem with dependencies as well?

Bug confirmed on Ubuntu Raring (alpha). The workaround given in Comment
21
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/841409/comments/21)
works perfectly.

However, when clicked on "Open Calender" it opens (or highlights)
Thunderbird, but does not open the calendar tab.

Thanks for the workaround though.

#3
On Ubuntu 10.10, I am unable to install lxml to python 2.7. Here are the
steps I take.

sudo su -
apt-get install python2.7
apt-get install python-lxml

Note when running the install for python-lxml package, the following
appeared:

INFO: using unknown version '/usr/bin/python2.7' (debian_defaults not
up-to-date?)
*
to elimninate above error i blindly executed command below
+++

On Ubuntu 10.10 the python packages installed from the repositories get
installed to /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages so one option is to add this
path to your $PYTHONPATH environmental variable so python2.7 will look to
the python2.6 directory for the libs.

What I've done on Ubuntu 10.10 is add

export PYTHONPATH="$PYTHONPATH:/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages"

to my .bashrc file, and also to my .gnomerc file. This sets the $PYTHONPATH
for python instances started from the shell or from the gnome desktop. You
should then be able to import the python libs which you have installed from
the Ubuntu repositories in python2.7.

.bashrc and .gnomerc are both located in your home directory; you might
have to create .gnomerc if it doesn't already exist. And one caution:
&&
I had a syntax error in my .gnomerc which stopped the gnome desktop from
loading, and I couldn't log in.

I had to use a recovery console to fix this syntax error and then I could
log in again.

[Bug 387308] Re: HTTPS Proxy Support for file sync

Just wondering if there is anybody on this forum who is on the mailing list for
release schedule.

So that he/she can update this forum on the features being freezed for
Oneric (Ubuntu 11.10). There is no point in keep shouting for not having
this feature in 11.04. We should plan for 11.10 now :-)

[Bug 656745] Re: notebook always crashes if on battery (dell vostro 3700 and others)

2011-03-03 Thread Vinay
@Aspera,
Sorry for the delay in replying... miroslav's solution didnt work for me... In
fact I had done exactly what you are saying in #75. The freezing is now reduced
to almost twice/thrice a day.

But it has started another problem (I dont know whether I have messed up
some other files also!!!). Also I dont know whether they are related!!!

The machine get very hot. The CPU temp goes close to 75C... I have
observed that most of the freezing occurs when the temp goes very high.
I am generally doing a regular work on the machine (mainly usual
internet browsing (without much of java or flash) or dealing with text
files.) So dont expect CPU+GPU to be over heated!

[Bug 656745] Re: notebook always crashes if on battery (dell vostro 3700 and others)

2011-02-07 Thread Vinay
I am facing the same problem. I have DELL VOstro 3700 with core i7,
NVIDIA, Broadcom 4313.

Earlier the system used to hang whenever I try to access wireless. I got
a work around for the same by uninstalling broadcom drivers those were
from Ubuntu repo, and downloaded from Broadcom website.

But the switching to battery problem is still there.

The system was shipped with 9.10, which I upgraded to 10.10. There the
problem started. The system would hang within minutes of switching to
battery. Then I thought of "upgrading" it further and tried to install
11.04, still no luck. I tried both 32bit and 64 bit for all these OS's
(except for 9.10 64-bit).

the frequency of freezing has reduced a bit...

Statistically I could see that if start the system on AC and put it on
battery after booting, I can avoid freezing. I dont know understand the
technical aspects, but this seems to be a promising solution. Can
somebody please explain me the logic?

[Bug 656745] Re: notebook crashes on battery with particular wlan or other pcie devices enabled (dell vostro 3700, asus, medion, acer and others)

2011-04-28 Thread Vinay
I am still on 10.10 and the problem is still continuing. I have tried
both the (main) solutions.

By the way, I found one interesting thing about this "freezing". The
system doesnt get frozen completely, it is just the display and the
inputs (keyboard-mouse) are frozen. I can still work over the network,
if I have some music playing, it continues to play (even youtube is
continued). More interestingly, my gmail status icon also remains the
same (showing I am still available or busy or whatever)... Is there any
way, I can unfreeze display & KB-mouse via ssh?

I am not sure whether this will help to solve the problem...

@Miraslov,
Where does one check the logs after emergency sync (ALT+PRINT+S). I just get
two lines in the /var/log/messages:
SysRq : Emergency Sync
Emergency Sync complete

Yes -- it is the same issue. The KDE tool seems to be expecting that

changed so that it can manage printer sharing configuration.

This would be ideal. At the very least, though, it seems like the
package does the exact wrong thing: on my system, I installed it from
firefox, and the package installed, and silently failed. Removing it
and installing it from the command line told me that flash didn't
install (because of the bad md5 sum), but the .deb *did* install. If
the md5 fails, the whole install should fail.

[Bug 107886] Re: Feisty Upgrade fails on mdadm

2007-04-20 Thread Vinay Augustine
"/var/log/dist-upgrade/term.log" is empty (I don't know why that is). I
did do the install over SSH, so that might have something to do with it.
I can attempt to do the installation locally if necessary.

[Bug 123822] xfig export does not work

2007-07-03 Thread Vinay Augustine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfig

Version: 1:3.2.5-alpha5-9ubuntu1

1. install xfig: apt-get install xfig
2. run xfig: /usr/bin/xfig
3. create simple drawing (need a non-empty file)
4. export: file->export, give file name, click "Export"
5. see error complaining about "fig2dev"

According to the manpage, xfig relies on the "TransFig" package when
printing or exporting ("The fig2dev program from the TransFig package is
called by xfig as a back-end processor to produce various types of
output").

Workaround: installing the transfig package (apt-get install transfig)
fixes the issue.

Suggest making transfig a dependency of xfig; otherwise basic operations
(printing, exporting) will not work.

** Affects: xfig (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 540332] Re: eclipse: tooltips unreadable

2010-05-10 Thread Vinay Pai
I'm editing using PHP mode. When I set the sourceHoverBackgroundColor
property in org.eclipse.dltk.ui.prefs it sometimes works right after I
restart eclipse then reverts to black, and gets set back to 0,0,0 in the
file. #9 worked for me for now though.

Thanks a lot George! Compacting worked for me :-)

Hello,
This bug is related to the size of your Inbox.
I found some option to recreate the index and it fixed the problem
partially.
Later I used right-click over Inbox icon and select "compact" option.

So at this time, the old emails where removed and real size of Inbox
reduced.

This worked for me.

Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
Binary package hint: thunderbird

Inbox is not slow or any other strange behavior, but since yesterday my new
emails has very strange behavior.
New emails look empty or a lot of nonsense block of letter and numbers, or even
they refer to very old messages.

I have more than 4.000 emails in my inbox and the Inbox file size is
2156435914 bytes, I tried to delete old messages (more than 200), but
the problem still happening with all new messages since yesterday

I try to check the email source for each message and got some clue:
Three messages before the error started have the following "number"
- Source of:
mailbox:///home/ghsilva/.mozilla-thunderbird/Profiles/w0hzxyqu.default/Mail/Local%20Folders/Inbox?number=2146731143

[Bug 1929454] [NEW] Bios measurements do not contain measurements for the kernel binary and kernel signer cert.

2021-05-24 Thread VINAY RAJESH
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 20.04, the binary_bios_measurements do NOT contain the
measurements for the kernel binary and the kernel signer cert that is
typically measured by the shim.

This is behavior is NOT consistent with Ubuntu 18.04 where the
measurements are present.

Attaching the measurements from Ubuntu 20.04 for reference.

[Bug 1929454] Re: Bios measurements do not contain measurements for the kernel binary and kernel signer cert.

2021-05-24 Thread VINAY RAJESH
Hi Steve,

What about the scenario where the signers are different for kernel and
grub? For example, if the kernel is signed using a self signed cert and
loaded using MOK.

I am trying to do that right now but the kernel fails to load when
signed with a MOK key.

2021-05-25 Thread VINAY RAJESH
I was able to boot the kernel and I was able to validate that the Mok
entry does appear. We can close this bug now since its not an issue.

Thanks a lot for your help:)
