Public bug reported:

Introduction

Nature is life we can not think any thing without this.If we want
healthy and wealthy life so we walk with nature as he moves. In each and
every stage we have to stand with nature likes a security guard.
Environment Support Group (ESG) is an independent non-profit voluntary
organization, registered as a Public Charitable Trust. Our area of work
involves research, documentation, advocacy, training and campaign
support on a variety of environmental and social justice issues. We are
amongst the foremost proponents in India for the reform of environmental
decision making processes urging that the same be made more
participatory and environmentally and socially just.

ESG is a core member of Bangalore Response, a network of various NGOs and
health based organisations in Bangalore responding with disaster relief. During
the January 2001 Gujarat Earthquake ESG played a significant role in
coordinating and disseminating earthquake relief and rehabilitation information.
ESG projects cover a range of issues but a common theme is that of
incorporating environmental and social justice concerns with community
participation and involvement in decision making.

ESG organizes or participates in facilitating public meetings and workshops
with a view to raising awareness in the community, judiciary and government
bodies about environmental issues, environmental law, and the citizens' Rights.
Films are a medium through which to promote a message to a wider audience and
ESG has thus far been involved in the making of two films.

Ourcampaigns typically address environmental, social and economic justice
issues, and often involve lobbying for compliance with environmental
legislation by corporations, government authorities and individuals.

Our involvement in a campaign begins either when another individual or
group approaches ESG for comments or assistance, or when we ourselves
find issue with a particular development project/investment.

There is a plethora of environmental legislation in India, but it is
rarely enforced.Furthermore, it appears that the public are not aware of
their Rights with respect to environmental laws. For instance, public
hearings in which all affected parties are permitted to participate are
mandatory for certain types of projects, however this is not a commonly
known fact.

With each campaign, we seek to engage the public, government bodies and
corporations and create awareness about the provisions of and
enforcement of environmental legislation in India.A core factor in
campaign work are the needs and wishes of project affected communities,
and we seek to ensure that these are addressed.
