[Bug 129482] Re: easytag is very very slow

2008-11-25 Thread Ville Ranki
Looks like it does some heavy processing in UI thread, as the whole UI
is frozen when applying tags. Things like this should be done in
background so that UI stays usable.

[Bug 150753] Re: N800 isn't a music device

2008-11-14 Thread Ville Ranki
8.10 final pops up a dialog saying 'You'ver just installed a digital
audio player. Choose what application to launch. You can choose various
audio players and to just open the device using nautilus.

It is still recognized as digital audio player, but i think this new
dialog solves the original problem.

[Bug 298838] [NEW] Radeon X1950 Pro X fails to start and no 3D-acceleration

2008-11-16 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

Upgraded an Hardy to Intrepid with ATI Technologies Inc RV570 [Radeon
X1950 Pro] (rev 9a) graphics card.

After installation X fails to start, even after removing xorg.conf. I had to
make a manual xorg.conf to get
any kind of X running. This would be a showstopper for beginners.

After that i installed the restricted driver, but still no 3D
acceleration available. Xorg log attached.

[Bug 123460] Re: Rhythmbox:Error while saving song information:Internal GStreamer problem

2008-11-28 Thread Ville Ranki
This bug still exists in Intrepid. Maybe playing from gvfs share could
be the common cause. I have 500 gigs of music mounted over fuse/sftp and
rhythmbox pops up this dialog several times when it scans the share for
changed files.

Can this bug be reopened or should i re-create it? I can repeat the
problem and take logs if still needed.

[Bug 375947] Re: Evolution crashes after changing month in calendar

2009-05-14 Thread Ville Ranki
In what package the orbit dbgsym's are?

This is reproducible every time - also by changing month by arrow keys
or clicking on a day in another month. This makes the calendar unusable
for now, so i hope a fix or a workaround is found quickly. I'll try with
another user later. EDS also crashes.

[Bug 375947] Re: Evolution crashes after changing month in calendar

2009-05-15 Thread Ville Ranki
New detail about this crash:

I have three calendars set up: Personal, trips, and recurring stuff. If
i disable the recurring events calendar from top left "calendars" area
the crash doesn't happen. If i enable it, evolution crashes. This can be
repeated.

The bug could be related to recurring events.

[Bug 342411] Re: Clock Calendar shows Sunday at the start of the week

2009-04-20 Thread Ville Ranki
Looks like it's currently not possible to change settings like this
without changing language. Most (advanced) users prefer using English as
language regardless of the local language. I'd suggest either adding a
setting for this in calendar (fast & ugly) or adding setting for this in
Gnome (slow but right).

[Bug 269851] Re: Intrepid Ibex Alpha 5 Bluetooth Logitech Dinovo Edge Keyboard/Mouse don't work

2008-11-08 Thread Ville Ranki
I just had the same problem when upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid via
Update Manager.

During installation the keyboard & mouse stopped working. I had to reinsert
the USB dongle to get it back working. Also after rebooting i had to do the
same thing. Something has definitely been broken in Intrepid.

AFAIK the Dinovo's USB dongle is visible to PC as a usb HID device, not
a Bluetooth dongle.

Notice the difference in log messages after reinserting the dongle:

I think this happens much more often nowadays. I can't watch a single

that this also kills ALL applications using pulseaudio (firefox,

[Bug 337692] [NEW] Corrupt graphics on newly added users desktops

2009-03-04 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I noticed that after creating second and third user account on my system
(Intrepid with Nvidia) Compiz window decorations are corrupted for them.
For the first user everything still works fine. It doesn't make
difference who logs in first.

This is different than #137745 as it is about several users being logged
in simultaneously. Currently the only workaround i've found is to
disable desktop effects for the other users.

This is tested only on one pc, can anyone reproduce?

[Bug 208122] Re: gedit crashed with SIGSEGV while editing over (SSH)

I guess this is the right bus. I'm getting once a while errors like:

Could not open location 'sftp://xxx'

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
expired, or the network connection was broken.

This causes nautilus and gnome-panel to freeze for maybe a minute. After
that i think they both crash and are restarted. Really annoying. This
happens for example when playing music from sftp share.

2009-04-04 Thread Ville Ranki
I got too annoyed because of this not being fixed and did a quick hack
for myself.

I commented out the line 320 in metadata/rb-metadata-dbus-client.c:

g_set_error (error,
 RB_METADATA_ERROR,
 RB_METADATA_ERROR_INTERNAL,
 _("Internal GStreamer problem; file a bug"));

Now rb doesn't bitch about this and is usable once again. I attached a
fixed build.

Enjoy.

3) Evolution asks for PGP key passphrase
4) Enter passphrase and click ok
5) Crash!

The event is added to calendar as next time doing this it is already
in calendar and acceptance message is not resent and the bug
doesn't reoccur.

[Bug 414762] [NEW] Doubleclicking randomly shows wrong directory

2009-08-17 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

This bug occurs randomly but often when browsing files and directories
in List View.

Double-clicking a directory opens other directory than which was clicked
(opening here means
showing its subdirectories in list view, not changing to that directory). It
seems that usually
the directory that opens is in top of the list while selecting something from
bottom of the list,
never the directory below the one that was clicked.

This happens on 2 Jaunty PC's. Both are not state of the art (1.8Ghz pc and
1.4Ghz laptop) and
i believe more often when browsing remote shares.

The bug is probably a duplicate as it happens so often and is a bit
difficult to describe sorry for that.

[Bug 134487] Evolution UI flashes when formatting large message

2007-08-24 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution message display UI flashes when displaying a message with large text
attachment. During flashing
text "Formatting message.." is displayed in status bar. The "3 attachments
[Save all]" text & button does not
blink for some reason.
This happens at least with a 2.2mb text file attachment.

[Bug 93445] Unable to render text

2007-03-18 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

I have a self-coded C++ application that uses sdl-ttf. For some reason it
causes a undefined symbol error when trying to render text:

App output:
Oh My Goodness, an error : Failed loading DPMSDisable: /usr/lib/libX11.so.6:
undefined symbol: DPMSDisable

>From source lines:
if(!(text_surface=TTF_RenderText_Solid(font,text.c_str(), color))) {
printf("Oh My Goodness, an error : %s", TTF_GetError());
}

I've googled for error and found this:
http://lists.libsdl.org/pipermail/sdl-libsdl.org/2006-November/058768.html

Maybe this ubuntu package is compiled with wrong freetype version or something.
I'm
not sure what really could be the cause for this.

Versions:
libfreetype6-2.2.1-5
libsdl-ttf2.0-0 2.0.8-2

Running on Edgy x86_64

[Bug 423623] [NEW] Rhythmbox should be associated with m3u files

2009-09-03 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

In Ubuntu Jaunty opening a .m3u file with Firefox only offers it to be
opened with Totem. I think Rhythmbox would be much better default action
for .m3u files.

This is needed. It is needed for example when switching from wlan to

[Bug 438217] [NEW] Privacy issue: screensaver displays images from Pictures directory

2009-09-28 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

I just noticed that gnome-screensaver has a screensaver which displays
random pictures from ~/Pictures without asking. This can be a serious
privacy issue, if user has confidential images (read: home porn) in the
directory. F-Spot imports photos to ~/Pictures by default.

Luckily my colleagues got to see only some trekking photos.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386

[Bug 452214] [NEW] Nautilus should ask user to empty trash if media is full

2009-10-15 Thread Ville Ranki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps to reproduce:

1. Copy a lot of files to a media (usb stick for example) so that
it's almost full

2. Delete some files on the media to free space

3. Try to copy a new file to the media

4. Operation fails because disk is full. User is confused.

Expected behavior:

"The media is full. Would you like to empty trash on it and
try copying again?"

This is related to #12893, but probably also applies to
non-removable media also.

[Bug 1573408] Re: GNOME Software does not install third-party .deb packages

2018-09-05 Thread Ville Ranki
I think this is back in up to date 18.04:

1. Download deb (visual studio code in this case)
2. Open the file (via Firefox)
3. Gnome software starts and shows the package, click Install
4. Sudo password is asked and it says Installing
5. Goto 3. The package is not installed and no errors given.

2018-09-05 Thread Ville Ranki
Update:

Looks like there was issue with dpkg database. Anyway this is a serious
bug in gnome software as no error message is given and no graphical way
to recover from the situation.

$ sudo apt install /tmp/mozilla_vranki0/code_1.26.1-153688_amd64.deb
[sudo] password for vranki:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to

Easy to reproduce:

1. Get a Amiga .mod file (any will do).
2. Add it to rhythmbox play queue
3. Play it
4. After playing rhythmbox GUI freezes and needs to be killed.

vagrant up also causes the same error and nothing happens.

[Bug 1733888] Re: iwlwifi Error sending STATISTICS_CMD: time out after 2000ms.

2017-12-07 Thread Ville Ranki
To be realistic I probably won't be testing this with different kernels.
It's happening on a production laptop which I need daily and is a bit
tricky to reproduce. Maybe someone else suffering from the issue can do
the tests.

More info: the bug doesn't happen on every boot. Suspend/resume cycles
may trigger it. I haven't found a way to reproduce it reliably.
