[Bug 235383] Re: terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::length_error'

2008-07-29 Thread Thomas Wolfe
I am also having this problem, and your fix did work. Thank you.

However pdf2ps did not report any errors, but after running it through
pdf2ps and then ps2pdf it opened fine in inkscape.

attached is the pdf which produced this crash for me.

[Bug 239366] [NEW] gnome-power-manager not saving UPS settings

2008-06-11 Thread Thomas Wolfe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I have an APC ES series (be550r model) UPS.

I plugged it in and it just worked with Hardy (good work by the way...
very nice and impressive).

However, going to system->preferences->power management and then going
to the "on UPS power" tab I put a checkmark in "enable UPS discharge
alarm" and set the display to go to sleep after 1 minute.

When I close out of the preferences and open them again, they were not
saved (unchecks the "enable UPS discharge alarm" and sets the display to
sleep after 23 minutes).

my screensaver preferences is set so it regards the computer as idle
after 1 minute.

Any other information I can provide... just let me know.

I have the same bug as Ryan. the 386 kernel works dandy, but the 686
does not, only difference I can see (between the 386 and 686) is in the
menu.lst, the 686 one does not have initing, adding it does not solve
the problem on the 686 one, so for now, sticking with 386. in breezy it
worked with 686 just dandy.

yes, it takes about 5 mins for it to actually start.
as it was starting, I did

so I just did
gdb --pid `18169`>outputofgdb

never really end.

this is with xorg-server 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8 as you can see in the
log, same xorg.conf as before

how do I know which log to attach though, like I have Xorg.0.log.old and
Xorg.9.log.old? Assuming this is the correct one because of when it was
last modified (right when it crashed).

[Bug 130450] Re: compiz-fusion does not start on login

2007-09-02 Thread Thomas Wolfe
I think Travis just needs to double check his grammer (I think that is what the
s/you/so/ is about, but many people [myself included] don't understand that).
Question is, why is the session saving compiz.real instead of compiz, and why
is it that that cannot be fixed (it is a technical problem, of course it can be
fixed, now social problems are almost impossible to fix).
(you the proper environment to run compiz.real is not saved. does not make any
sense to me).

[Bug 130450] Re: compiz-fusion does not start on login

2007-09-03 Thread Thomas Wolfe
I agree, to properly fix the problem it will probably require a good
deal of work (I don't know, but I am assuming, I would have to know more
about the whole indirect thing, is it a driver problem that things have
to be done indirectly, or hardware?). But for now, could a simple patch
against gnome-session work (possibly for gutsy+1, not sure if you want
to add something like that that might fix one problem and create another
especially since we are nearing beta) so that it won't save compiz.real
(while saving running processes, check if the process it is saving is
compiz.real and if it is save it as compiz instead, I don't really know
how gnome-session works, but I imagine it does something similar)? Yes,
it would be an ugly hack, but it would make it a much nicer experience
for users ("ah, why the hell is this not working, I give up" users are
not going to google something like this, it should just work, they don't
care if you have to use ugly hacks to make it work, so long as it works)
and could be easily dropped once it was properly fixed (something that
could take years to finish). And I think that would be the easiest way,
if you wanted to fix it via compiz, the only way I can really see at the
moment is to merge the compiz wrapper script with compiz itself, which
is not really a good idea. Thanks for explaing that though Travis,
although why mark this as won't fix if it is a problem and it does
affect users. I understand it will take a lot of time and effort (I
think) for fixing a very small problem, but it should not just be
overlooked. Ignoring a problem does not make it go away.

[Bug 120343] [gutsy]gnome-session-properties crashes trying to enable "beagle search tool"

2007-06-13 Thread Thomas Wolfe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Well, I just installed beagle (used to use tracker, but tracker was not finding
all my files [eg, wanted to find some files with the title Stone Temple Pilots
in the actual file name, searching for Stone found nothing, but searching for
Pilots found it, possible separate bug, idk]) and when i drop down from places
to search, it still brings up the old gnome-search (and yes, the beagle daemon
is running) so I checked out Sessions and sure enough beagle-search --icon (aka
beagle search tool) is not enabled. So I click the checkbox to enable it and
it crashes. beagle-search --icon works on it's own, just won't start with
gnome-session-properties.
so I followed this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash
and I will attach the output.
First off, is that a bug with tracker (if so I will report it), second, is not
having the beagle search tool enabled in sessions the reason for the "search
for files" under places not bringing up the new beagle-search and instead the
old gnome-search?
Hope this helps. Cheers

[Bug 120621] [gutsy]gnash 0.8.0 will not play youtube, auto codec installation not working, other videos not working

2007-06-15 Thread Thomas Wolfe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnash

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=474596
I had both gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg (video codecs for youtube) and
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly (audio codec for youtube) installed, and youtube
would not play, just totally blank, plays audio for a second and then just goes
blank. I tried out uninstalling those two packages, and going to youtube and I
got an error with the auto install stuff (will attach screenshot).
Then I tried to watch some old weebl and bob videos, and none really work
properly, audio plays, but the video is flickering a lot, unwatchable (will
also post screenshot). this is all with compiz disabled.

[Bug 120621] Re: [gutsy]gnash 0.8.0 will not play youtube, auto codec installation not working, other videos not working

2007-06-16 Thread Thomas Wolfe
Using a 32 bit system. If it works for you, it must be something I am doing
wrong, however, I really don't see what I am doing wrong.
1. Went to youtube.com and opened a video
2. it did not play as expected
3. uninstalled gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg AND gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly to see if
easy-codec-install works properly.
4. clicked on video to play it, and the dialog popped up, tried to install and
got the above error as listed in the screenshot.
5. video failed to play.

mozilla-plugin-gnash:
  Installed: 0.8.0~cvs20070611.1016-1ubuntu2
gnash:
  Installed: 0.8.0~cvs20070611.1016-1ubuntu2
flashplugin-nonfree:
  Installed: (none)
(all the same packages as you.)

I do also have the gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly from multiverse also
installed, going to try to uninstall that and give it a go again, don't
see how that would cause any problem, but I don't really see any other
way to go about this.

Tried it, still no luck... Interesting thing though, if I open a video from
youtube in a background tab, it will play just fine (I can hear the audio and
everything) once I click on the tab to see it, it stops.
Another thing to note, i left my computer for about 2 hours, when I came back,
gnash was using 53% of my 512mb ram.
possibly an opengl bug or something? I am using an ati with the open drivers
