[Bug 178719] Re: Buttons on the left and bottom toolbar overlap in xfig

2008-11-22 Thread TTL
Yes, its still the same. (Tested with Ubuntu 8.10 in VMware, as my working
system is still 8.04).
The active area of the hidden buttons is only one pixel in height.-> very hard
to hit.

[Bug 278228] Re: The manpage of fread shows wrong parameters

2008-11-24 Thread TTL
This still occurs in 8.10. Interestingly Konqueror can only display the
man-page if manpages-dev is installed.
So it looks for me like a parsing error or something similar. There is only the
string ", FILE *" missing in the middle.

[Bug 90405] Re: Lost key combinations in KDE

2009-05-12 Thread TTL
I had a similar problem after upgrading from 8.04 to 9.04 and using the KDE
3.5.10 from an alternate repo. The kmenuedit did not let me assign a key.
As workaround, open ~/.kde3/share/config/khotkeysrc
search for the key combination and remove the entry where it is found.
After this, it is possible to re-assign the key combination.

Note: This bug looks similar to the KDE 4.1 Bug:

For me, it looks like the bug is fixed in Ubuntu 9.04. There are still
some overlaps with some window sizes, but in every case at least 1/3 of
the left bottom buttons are visible, making the buttons easily usable
again.

[Bug 231484] Re: Xorg crashes with a segfault if pressing "Del" key

Ok, backtracing was easier and more fun than I expected. I tried it two times:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
XkbHandleBell (force=0 '\0', eventOnly=0 '\0', kbd=0x8273488, percent=50 '2',

Line 404 in xkbEvents.c
would be:
xkbi = kbd->key->xkbInfo;

Interestingly, the crashes happen only if the Wacom is connected during the
server start. If it is removed later the server still crashes and if the Wacom
is added later it does not (however it then is less usable).
I hope this helps.

[Bug 277767] [NEW] APIC error on CPU0: 08(08) slows down system

2008-10-03 Thread TTL
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic

-Description of the problem:---
On some events, the PC, running Kubuntu 8.04 starts to get slow. Top shows that
all processing power is shared between some running processes.
Namely: Xorg, dd, klogd and some other current active processes like kopete
or k3b.
Terminating all CPU consuming non-root processes results in sharing
all CPU power between dd and klogd.

When this happens dmesg only consist of the message

APIC error on CPU0: 08(08)

I looked into var/log/syslog and counted the amounts of this message.
Taking one second as example the message was repeated 748 times.
It looks like sometimes it happens even more frequent and syslog only captures
part of the message.

Stopping syslog, the CPU still stays high and the system responses slow,
but there is no obious process visible, using significant CPU time.

At least once it fully crashed some minutes later.

--How to repeat the problem:-
The system were running with Kubuntu 6.06 for nearly a year without such
problems. Switching to Kubuntu 8.04 some months ago (fresh install), the problem
happened from time to time and seems to happen much more frequent in the recent
weeks (up to four times a day).

I discovered, that the problem can be repeated if someone selects an iso image
in k3b and then its happening somewhere in the process of calculating
the md5sum of the selected image.

The problem disappears as soon as the system gets restarted.

As the message says something about APIC, I tried the noapic boot option, with
the result that the system completely crashes seconds (1..30) after someone
logs in at the KDM screen. If this happens, the PC can't even be pinged anymore.

I further tried the combination of noapic, nolapic, acpi=off which resulted in
the same behaviour.

-The system--
The system is an AthlonXP 1800+ and an ATI 9600 graphic card, using the open
source 3d accelerated drivers coming with the distribution.

---Expected behavior---
Not to get slow.

Is this a bug, or a hardware failure? And is there any way to go around the
problem?

(I have full access to the hardware for the next two days, after this time it is
getting difficult as my sister moves with the PC to a new location).

[Bug 88095] Re: [Feisty] uninformative error when resizing ntfs partitions

2008-10-03 Thread TTL
Agree. I had the same error message with a Kubuntu 8.04 live-cd. Starting
windows and do a shut-down solved the problem.
A more informative error message would be helpful.
To the current text
"Resize operation failure.
An error occured while writing the changes to the storage devices.
The resize operation is aborted."

Add something like:
"This might be the result of an inconsistent ntfs filesystem. Starting the
windows system and do a proper shutdown might help."
would really help users.

[Bug 278228] [NEW] The manpage of fread shows wrong parameters

2008-10-04 Thread TTL
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: manpages-dev

Entering "man:fread" in Konqueror 3.5.10 on an current Kubuntu 8.04 , the
output is:
size_t fread(void *ptr, size_t size, size_t nmembstream);
...
The function fread() reads nmemb elements of data, each size bytes long, from
the stream pointed to by stream, storing them at the location given by ptr.

There is clearly one parameter missing in the function and the name of
the parameters do not match to the commentary.

Interestingly running "man fread" in a console displays the correct information:
size_t fread(void *ptr, size_t size, size_t nmemb, FILE *stream);

Guess this would be easy to fix.

[Bug 231484] [NEW] Xorg crashes with a segfault if pressing "Del" key

2008-05-17 Thread TTL
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I get crashes of the Xorg server if I press the "Del" key. This happened three
times recently and seems to be repeatable. The system is an up-to-date Kubuntu
8.04.
The dmesg says:
[ 754.699253] Xorg[5444]: segfault at 01a4 eip 0818fa3a esp bfa98800 error
4
[ 866.241862] Xorg[9589]: segfault at 01a4 eip 0818fa3a esp bfd02030 error
4
[ 1039.389615] Xorg[10174]: segfault at 01a4 eip 0818fa3a esp bfd978d0
error 4

The first two crashes happened with a Java program while saving a file. I
placed the cursor in the middle of the default filename and pressed the "Del"
key. As here were no more characters to delete left, Xorg crashed.
The third crash happened with Seamonkey while editing the Ubuntu bug report
search query.

Note: Special on my system is, that I have a Wacom Bamboo connected.

My xorg.conf will follow.

Note, I installed the Wacom Drivers similar to this way:

[Bug 231484] Re: Xorg segfaults in XkbHandleBell() if pressing "Del" key

2008-12-24 Thread TTL
Good news. I finally had time to figure out how to compile xorg myself.
By checking the variable as described in the patch above, the crashes
went away.

if (!kbd) {
xf86MsgVerb(X_WARNING, 0, "XkbHandleBell: Warning: kbd was NULL\n");
return;
}
if (!kbd->key) {
xf86MsgVerb(X_WARNING, 0, "XkbHandleBell: Warning: kbd->key was NULL\n");
return;
}

For every
* pressing of the 'Del' key without a char to delete after the cursor
* or pressing the 'backspace' key without a char to delete before the cursor,
the second message is added.

Of course I dont know if this silently corrupts the memory somewhere
else.

[Bug 77939] Re: fglrx 3d rendering fails in kernel 2.6.20-3

2007-09-15 Thread TTL
Well, I now found out there is a fglrx.ko module in a directory which updatedb
did ignore. In the end it was the enabled composite which prevented the fglrx
module from working. Sorry.
But I would still like to know from which package the fglrx.ko actually did
come from.

[Bug 159530] (Gutsy) K3b can not burn files larger than 4GB

2007-11-02 Thread TTL
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: k3b

When dragging a file larger than 4GB to a new Data DVD Burning project,
K3B complains that it is not possible to burn files larger than 4GB and
the file is not added to the project. The file size in my case is 4,3GB
(4361MB) and K3B tells me to have 4,4GB free space variable.

My System: Kubuntu Gutsy

** Affects: k3b (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 174397] Re: SWScanner is crashing on Ubuntu 7.10

2007-12-08 Thread TTL
I agree. It looks like the current version of swscanner crashes as soon
as it found an access point. (It is working as long as it does not find
anything).

[Bug 178719] Buttons on the left and bottom toolbar overlap in xfig

2007-12-26 Thread TTL
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xfig

Steps to reproduce:
Install xfig and resize the window so that the left toolbar displays three
buttons per row (this is the case if the window is maximized on a 1280x800
screen). Now some buttons of the bottom toolbar are hidden behind the left
toolbar, especially the zoom button is very hard to use in this situation. It
does not happen if there are four buttons in each row.
I am using Kubuntu 7.10. As far as I remember, this Bug did not appear in
Kubuntu 6.06.
I can provide a screenshot if needed.

[Bug 462189] [NEW] libavcodec.so.52 crashes while using a webcam

2009-10-27 Thread TTL
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libavcodec52

What happened:
1. Start vlc. 2. Open with recording mode "PVR" the /dev/video0 device. After
some time a strange behavior starts: playing stops/crashes/windows can't be
closed.
At first the video playback "woks", but has a very low framerate, with partly
updated images and sometimes false colors. Moreover when playback runs, the
"gnome-power-manager"suddenly gets started (i use KDE and never have seen such
a behavior before).

Expected behavior:
Even if a Webcam may be the wrong device for "PVR", a crash is alway a bug,
which may not happen.

System:
lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
uname -r

libavcodec52 Version:

The first three tries I got a segmentation fault. On the fourth I got a
not-closeable XVideo Output Window.

I tried to backtrace this with gdb, unfortunately there are no debugging
symbols to install:

[Bug 417811] [NEW] fetchmail corrupts attachments in daemon mode not in debug-run mode

2009-08-23 Thread ttl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fetchmail

fetchmail version 6.3.9~rc2-4ubuntu1.1
exim version: 4.69-9ubuntu1

Mails downloaded with fetchmail and handed to exim4.

Most e-mails have corrupted attachments (attachment size is slightly
larger than original file) when fetchmail runs in daemon mode (auto or
manual (re)started from /etc/init.d/fetchmail)

E-mails don't have corrupted attachments when fetchmail is stopped and
restarted in debug-run mode (/etc/init.d/fetchmail debug-run).

In debug-run fetchmail reports "message u...@pop.myisp.be:1 was not the
expected length... The actual length is a bit larger than the expected
length (reported by pop3 server) but mails are ok.

Best regards,
Patrick Craenen

[Bug 417811] Re: fetchmail corrupts attachments in daemon mode not in debug-run mode

** Description changed:

+ Giving a /etc/init.d/fetchmail debug-run while fetchmail is running in
+ daemon mode (without stopping it first) does not stops the corrupting of
+ attachments.
+
+ I have tried with binary and text attachments of 1MB, bot get larger and
+ corrupted. There is garbage added at the end of the file.
+
  Best regards,
  Patrick Craenen

[Bug 1205690] Re: Default settings for updatedb.conf do NOT index encrypted home!

2013-11-25 Thread TTL
> please explain why its a security problem?
Because a database with all the filenames is stored under /var/cache/locate/
So some stranger could guess what files you have in your encrypted /home
partition, if /var is not encrypted.
I resolved this for me long ago by replacing /var/cache/locate/ by a symlink to
some place inside /home where the database is stored now. But now me affects
the missing indexing of encrypted drives aswell.
