Hallo Duncan

Thank you for reporting this issue. Do you have any idea in what
module/part of Ubuntu this notice comes from and do you by any chance
have a part of the notice so I can search for it?

Just a small detail. For bugs that are only translation bug they should
never be associated with the packages the translation belong to. The bug
is in the localization not in the software, so to speak ;)

[Bug 67487] Re: [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and full freeze when X starts

2006-11-04 Thread TLE
I have the exact problem which is described in the first post. I'm trying to
boot the i386 desktop live cd. It doen't matter whether I am choose the
ordinary or the safe graphics option the result is the same. About 90% through
the splash screen it stalls with an irretating image if the splashscreen
showing an almost filled progress bar stuck on my screen, and it is impossible
to reach the terminal and the only option is to do a hard reboot. HOWEVER I am
able to reach a terminal if I add a vga=788 option to the bootoptions. So
depending on whether you guys think this is the same issue I can provide you
with all the debugging info you need, let me know what you think. I have
already looked in the xorg log and I found the same two lines reported in by
tcybulski:
(WW) ATI: PCI Mach64 in slot 1:0:0 could not be detected!
(WW) ATI: PCI Mach64 in slot 1:0:1 could not be detected!

Whats interesting is that you all seem to assume that it is a driver
issue, but if this error is typical wouldn't that seem to suggest that
it is the thing detecting hardware that is the problem?

I did try changing the Driver "ati" to Driver "vesa" and restart gdm but
it didn't work.

So but anyway let me know what you think, if you want I can supply all
the info you need, just post the appropriate commands

My sys is the following:
AMD 64 3200+
ATI Radeon X800XL
1024Mb RAM

[Bug 67487] Re: [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts

2006-11-05 Thread TLE
Hey Tormod
I just tried what you suggested, and maybe it's just me who misunderstood
something, but there doesn't seem to be an xorg.conf and the break point in the
bootprocess. So basically I get a nice terminal and it stops with the
bootprocess at some time, but there is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
Can the break be set to something else, which is after the xorg.conf is written?

2006-11-06 Thread TLE
Tormod: Yes I figured it out now. And disabling dri and glx and shifting
to vesa lets me boot. So thank you for the fix.

I don't know if this can be fixed in time. But it is imparative that
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/59618 gets fixed
so that we can boot in safe graphics mode and take it form there.

[Bug 67487] Re: [edgy][regression][rv280] black screen and console freeze when X starts - drm lockup

2006-11-06 Thread TLE
Christian. Actually the "ati" driver has never played nice with my x800xl card.
And they didn't this time either. This is the different combination I have
tried:
Driverdri glxcombination works
ati v v No
ati x x No
vesa x x Yes
radeon x x Yes
radeon v v Yes
So with the radeon driver I didn't have to disable dri or glx.

Two things more I have noticed. I have now got edgy installed with one
small issue: the break=bottom argument seems to make it to the grub
menu.lst entry on the installed system. And for me it didn't break from
the splash screen, so I had to guess that it was the problem when the
install apparently stalled. It can be removed by editing the grub entry
directly in grub as described here under "Typically a refusal to boot
after an install"
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions?highlight=%28options%29%7C%28boot%29

Thank you all very much for all you work. I now have edgy *Dances the
happy dance*

[Bug 111617] Re: Translation bugs in About Me for Danish

2007-10-04 Thread TLE
This one is quite the nuisance. Originally it started out as a translations
bug. It was caused by the fact by some bad translations which was made before
the team was closed. It has how corrected meaning that every string in this
packages are identical to the ones in upstream Gnome, and they are correct. I
checked the file and those underscores are supposed to be there (they are
supposed to be turned into the underlines that make hotkeys). So at this point
the problem has to be that those string are not treated properly by the
program. So I will at some point transfer this bug to the gnome-utils package
but before I do that I would like to find out if this only happens when you use
the program in other languages than danish. So somebody that has a danish
version installed should start the english version of that program with the
command
locale=C gnome-about-me
and check if the un-interpreted underscores are there as weel.

This package is not translateable in LP. I'll have to figure out how I can get

it and how to contact them. It would usually be in the "help"-menu under "About

[Bug 111617] Re: Translation bugs in About Me for Danish

2007-10-04 Thread TLE
After som headscratching I found that the about-me program is actually
not present in gnome-utils but in gnome-control-center. However I just
checked and those strings are correct in the LP versions in both feisty
and gutsy, and it is correct in the source-code package in feisty but
somehow is still wrong in the binary packages for both feisty and gutsy.
I have no idea whats going on with this but either way this is not
really a translation bug anymore, so as soon as I figure out whether to
report it against gnome-control-center or rosetta I will close this one.

[Bug 111617] Re: Translation bugs in About Me for Danish

2007-10-06 Thread TLE
Hmm I was at some point wondering if we gad even gotten a laguage pack update
for Danish for feisty so I went to synaptic and checked. It seems that both of
these packages
   language-pack-da
   language-pack-gnome-da
are dated 2007-04-12 and there aren't any .mo-files in them. I am wondering if
this may be linked to something else.
At some point I wrote Martin Pitt to ask him to delay the language-pack update
for Danish for feisty because there was a very important correction I wanted to
make it in there. At the end of the e-mail exchange it wasn't really clear what
was going to happen. Is it possible that he stopped the updates for Danish
without turning them back on later?
I have attached the email exchange as a text file.

[Bug 111617] Re: Translation bugs in About Me for Danish

2007-10-09 Thread TLE
Ok one more things about the language pack update (Feisty). First of all
on my machine the package system doesn't seem to register when this
update has been installed. It just keeps telling me that there are these
four packages ready for update even though they are installed. I don't
know whether it is a problem with my system or with the packages or if
it is just supposed to be like that for these testing packages.

On another note I was just informed of an ugly error in gnome-session today
(This concerns mostly gutsy). So if it is at all possible it would be nice to
have the LP version of gnome-session from today included in the gutsy release
and possible in those updates for feisty. But I mean if it is to late then
there's nothing to do about that, then it'll just be included in the next
update. DON'T hold anything back on that account.

I think this is a really good solution. I agree with Johannes that it
would be a good idea to enable this feature based on some package-sets,
essentially they should probably be based on upstream source i.e. one
for GNOME upstream and so on, but that's all details which can be worked
out later.

I agree with Johannes on both points.

On another note. You guys were talking earlier about how to get
information out to the masses. May I suggest that this feature is made
in such a way, that when a user enters the translation page for a
package, which is one of those that have strings that will be
overwritten, then the first thing that he sees is a big red flashing
warning-light. This warning should explain that if he wants to
contribute to this package, he should first translate any remaining
strings upstream after coordinating with the upstream team (contact
information and so on should be given) and then after the complete
upstream translation has made it into LP then he can translate any
remaining strings added by Ubuntu specific patches in LP, if such
strings exist.

This would not only help to better explain the "best" way to contribute
but would also make sure that any volunteers that come in from the
Ubuntu community is properly greeted and not left not knowing how to
proceed if they want to contribute.

Regards Kenneth Nielsen

[Bug 159400] Some strings improperly i18n'ed

2007-11-01 Thread TLE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

The "About" dialog of each game contains a description like this one:

Klotski 2.20.0.1
Sliding block puzzles
Klotski is a part of GNOME Games.
(etc.)

The description ("Sliding block puzzles" in the case of Klotski) appears as a
translateable string in the .po files, but even in languages that have a
translation (such as Danish or Russian), the translated string is not
displayed.

This problem is present in all the games whose about-dialogs I have looked at
(mahjongg, glchess, klotski, blackjack). Everything else appears to be
translated correctly.

This problem is not present in gnome 2.16 or gnome 2.18.

[Bug 111617] Re: Translation bugs in About Me for Danish

2008-03-24 Thread TLE
Ok the issues mentioned in this bug are the following:
1: wrong strings in about me dialog
2: a typo in gnome-session, that showed up in the log out dialog :(
3: the updating error associatied with the language packs (kept showing up as a
new update even thoug it had been installed) only happened with the special
repository, so I wont bother trying to check that since as far as I understand
we use the proposed repository for this now.

In hardy, standard install
Both 1 & 2 are fixed

Gutsy standard install
Both 1 & 2 are fixed

Gutsy with "proposed" repository.
There did not seem to be any language-packs in gutsy-proposed at this time, so
maybe it has now been moved to the ordinary repositories.

Thank you for reporting this bug.

I just started up cmus and had a look at the man-page. Obviously the man page
is wrong since there can't be two functions on one key.
When I tested it G works as the "bottom" key just as you write, but on my
system a single g takes me to the "top" and not gg the way you write.
Can you please confirm if this is also the case on your system?

[Bug 49140] Re: The dictionary is not registered with Emacs

2007-01-07 Thread TLE
Thank you for reporting this bug.

Two things.
1. Is this bug still active in Edgy ?
2. In Edgy at least (I don't remember about Dapper) I don't have this problem.
But I seem to remember messing with it. Now normally emacs uses ispell but in
Ubuntu we only have aspell. Is it possible that it is only some sort of a
setting that needs to be made, or an extra package the need to be installed in
order to ensure that they can work together.

[Bug 46731] Re: Documentation created at package-build time is not hyphenated

2007-01-13 Thread TLE
I have now checked the changelogs of tetex-base and the fix that fixes bug
36145 is in the current package, (tetex-base is version 3.0-19 i Edgy), and was
also released as an update for Dapper. And so since that bug has been fixed I
must assume that this one is too. So I'm changing the status to fix released.

bug 36145 was fixed. You didn't change anything on your tetex Edgy

I'm just asking to be sure.

No problem.

Can you include which steps a users would need to follow in order to reproduce
the bug. As soon as we can get it confirmed by another user so that we are sure
that's not some special condition on your computer we can start trying to
figure out how to fix it

[Bug 70496] Re: installation on reiserfs fails

2006-11-18 Thread TLE
I can confirm this bug. I happens exactly as described above. When,
during the installation process, I come to the point where I am supposed
to appoint partitions to the different mount points, then if I choose a
reiserFS partition as / then it simply tells me "No root file system".

Initially I thought that it might be a problem with the formatting as it
is a "old" partition which I just reformatted before the install. So I
tried to delete the partition entirely and create a new one but the
result was the same. Eventually I gave up and just installed it on a
ext3 partition instead. I'm affected by another quite serious bug which
made my installation very difficult, so I wasn't quite in the mood to do
a lot of bug searching and experimenting.

I think maybe this sounds most like a software bug (though I am by no
means an expert) but just for the sake of comparison I'll list all the
hardware and hardware related facts that might be of importance. Maybe
you Witold could do the same so we can see if there any common points.

I was using the 32 bit desktop-cd (Edgy) but with a 64 bit AMD processor.
The reiserFS partition was one of quite a lot (I think 10 or 11) partitions on
an extended partition.
I use SATA disks
The disks are on a RAID controller but I don't run them as RAID.
Anything else ?

[Bug 70496] Re: installation on reiserfs fails

2006-11-18 Thread TLE
Actually no, because my system is installed now. And I would rather not
try to recreate it on the partition where the system I currently use is
installed. But my system is set up so I can have several versions of
Linux installed, so I might me able to test it later, but it probably
isn't going to be any time soon.

Could you post some of the same information as I did, so we can try to
compare.

[Bug 49068] Re: Java reports time zone incorrectly during CDT (US Daylight saving time)

2006-12-21 Thread TLE
Obviously I cannot reproduce this at the current time (since it involves
daylight saving) but I have been searching the Java bugtracker to try
and see if I could find it reported there. Unfortunately there are quite
a few bug that may or may not be related. It is difficult for me to
determine since I'm not that adept at Java.

I would advice the original reporter or the developers that found the bug to do
the following:
1. Try to determine of there is any reason to believe that this should be
related to this distribution. e.g. does either of the classes involved, use any
methods outside Java to determine the timezone, like say the system date or
something of a sort. This could be supplemented by testing the code on another
distro.
2. If it turn out that this is purely a internal Java issue. Then go upstream
and see if you can figure out if this bug has already been filed there. If it
hasn't the file it and link to it in this thread.

During my searches I found out that there are some "similar" bug
reported in the TimeZone class. But I couldn't quite figure out if that
class is being used by the GregorianCalender.

The Java bug tracker searcher is here: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/index.jsp
and if searched with keywords like calender DST it returns the following hits:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/search.do?process=1&category=&bugStatus=&subcategory=&type=bug&keyword=calender+dst
Happy hunting

Thank you for your bug.

First of all, could you please add information about which version of
Ubuntu and ffmpeg you are using?

Second, when I run that command on a .avi file the only thing it does is
to extract the sound as a .ac3 file. No video (m2v) files are created at
all. Please check if you provided the right command.
