This bug (horizontal scrolling not working) was reported against the
synaptics driver for Ubuntu 9.10 (NBR) on Bug report #507696 by me. This
bug must have been fixed at some point as it started working ok. I have
just upgraded to 10.04 today (2/5/10) and again horizontal scrolling has
stopped working.

After upgrading from Jaunty to 9.10 the horizontal scroll for the
synaptics touch pad worked. However, at some unknown point in between it
has stopped working. Updates have been loaded as available via
system>update manager.

Changing setting in system>mouse>touchpad>enable horizontal scrolling
has no effect i.e it doesn't work

Enabling SHMConfig had no effect (per
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad#shmconfig)

synclient -l shows HorizEdgeScroll=1

Hi I am the original reporter of the bug but I am not aware that there is any 
requested information outstanding as all requests have been replied to that I 
am 
aware of. I can confirm that the bug still exists at the time of writing this 
email with all available updates via udate manager - is this what you mean by 
latest version?. Apologies for not replying sooner but I have just returned 
from 
holiday - no email access.

Sorry Gursimran, I don't understand why the bug status has been changed
to invalid. It exists in 10.04 and its still exists in 10.10 as I noted
in my last email. I do not understand how bug managing on your side
works but I would have thought that the existing bug report stayed valid
(or is this because there has been a new release?) and that a new bug
report would be instigated by you for 10.10 automatically? Please
advise.

I recently upgraded my Ubuntu 32bit desktop edition from 10.04 to 10.10 and 
have noticed the signature box that usually appears on the right had side when 
writing an email is no longer there. In fact there is no reference to it at 
all, anywhere.
The option to edit signatures is still present via the preferences dialog box, 
but that's about it. Just no way of selecting which signature to use other than 
default.

I can confirm that adding a 2nd account fixed this issue for me. The signature 
selector returns when composing a new email.
 I had a single account set up and was experiencing the same problem after 
updgrading to 10.10.

Hi, Sorry for the delay in reply (family illness). Please see attached
xev file and screenshot of mouse settings as requested. However the
synclient exercise gave an error and an empty file was created:

stu...@stuart-laptop:~$ synclient -m >~/synclient
synclient: option requires an argument -- 'm'
Usage: synclient [-s] [-m interval] [-h] [-l] [-V] [-?] [var1=value1 
[var2=value2] ...]

trying to supply an interval without a file redirect (to see what happened):

Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?

Hi Ahmed,

After seeking some advice, seems I was using root terminal so was
looking in the wrong home directory for the files (Doh!). However,
whilst I have found the xmodmap & evtest files, the evtest file has zero
length. I ran the command as instructed and any key I pressed output to
the screen but did not appear in the file as expected (I used ctrlC to
go back to the command prompt). Suspect this doesnt actually help but
clears up the mystery of where the files were!

Any chance of an idiot's guide for how to apply this patch?

I've just put ubuntu 10.04 i686 desktop on my computer and need to get
my m-audio audiophile 2496 working via the analogue in/outputs. System /
Prefs / Sound shows the ICE1712 controller, but only lists the Digital
IEC958 options in the profile chooser.

I've downloaded the .patch file mentioned from the PulseAudio ticket but
am a bit baffled as to what exactly to do with it, even after a fair bit
of googling. I'm fairly new to linux, but not afraid to have a go
but I'm struggling a bit here.

First, I tried running:

Thanks for the offer, WeatherGod. I'm making progress - not quite there
yet though!

Today I started off by ignoring the patch for a bit and trying the
suggestion in #30 - analog sound output works, but no analog input. I
need both working, so undid the changes and went back to trying to work
out how to get the ianc patch working.

The most promising post looked like #119, which I followed except for
first copying /lib/udev/rules.d/90-pulseaudio.rules to
/etc/udev/rules.d/pulseaudio.rules (as per #57)

Now under Sound Preferences' Hardware tab, there are options for "Analog
Stereo Output" or "Analog Stereo Input/Output, Digital Stereo Output"
profiles. On the Input tab, I can see the level meter flickering up and
down in time to the music.. but now I can't get any sound output!

I did try re-applying the #30 changes, but that didn't make any
difference.

OK - looks like the trouble I was having was due to using the m_audio-
audiophile-2496.conf file (which was extracted from pulseaudio-add-
profile-sets-for-M_Audio-Audiophile-2496.patch from pulseaudio ticket
#624 attachments) thinking it would be a better match for my card than
the more generic via-ice1712.conf

Once I'd put everything back to normal, #52 and #57 worked for me.

Sorry to be a pain but still no joy:
Executed xmodmap -pp > ~/xmodmap (which came straight back to the command 
prompt). However it did not appear to output a file to my home folder 
(/home/stuart)
Executing the second command gave an error- please see below for a screen dump:

We recently had the same problem, and it appears it could be due to the debug 
output.
Calling rsync with -vvv hangs at the select, but with -vv (or less than 2) it 
works.
