[Bug 178895] Re: Audacity does not mesh with PulseAudio

2008-09-13 Thread Stefan Nagy
I can confirm that bug on Hardy.

In my opinion it's very confusing that there is no seperate bug-report
about the problem with JACK (at least I coudn't find it). Maybe someone
could write one (or post the link here).

[Bug 218661] Re: Consider configuring module smsc_ircc2 to use PnP

2008-09-15 Thread Stefan Nagy
The plug and play option doesn't work for me (on a HP Compaq Business
Notebook nx7000; kernel 2.6.24 and also the newer Ubuntu kernel 2.6.27).

Here are the relevant parts of the output of dmesg (if I load the module
with the nopnp=0 option):

serial8250: ttyS2 at I/O 0x3e8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
...
smsc_ircc_present: can't get sir_base of 0x3e8
smsc-ircc2 00:04: disabled

Without any module-option smsc_ircc2 chooses IRQ 7 which conflicts with
the parallel port (see bug 133169). If I instead load the module with
the option ircc_irq=3, the relevant part of the output of dmesg is:

Detected unconfigured Compaq x1000 family SMSC IrDA chip, pre-configuring
device.
Setting up Intel 82801 controller and SMSC device

[Bug 133169] Re: module smsc-ircc2 chooses wrong interrupt when configuring infrared device

2009-08-12 Thread Stefan Nagy
I still have the same notebook (HP Compaq Business Notebook nx7000) - it
seems to me that nothing really changed regarding this issue since my
last posting.

The module smsc_ircc2 doesn't get loaded at system startup. If I try to
load it manually (without any module options) it still chooses IRQ 7
which still conflicts with the parallel port.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) now; Kernel 2.6.28-15-generic.

[Bug 60916] Winbond SD/MMC Reader (W83L519D) doesn't work

2006-09-17 Thread Stefan Nagy
Public bug reported:

I've got a HP Compaq Business Notebook nx7000 with a built-in Winbond
SD/MMC Reader (W83L519D). I use Ubuntu 6.06 (kernel 2.6.15-26-386).

When I put in my MMC dmesg says:
[17189696.108000] mmcblk0: mmc0:0001 C0922 125440KiB
[17189696.108000] mmcblk0: unknown partition table
[17189697.936000] FAT: utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT
filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive!

In /dev/ there's just "mmcblk0" but no "mmcblk0p1", "mmcblk0p2"... - so
the partitions of the MMC aren't represented in /dev/. Nautilus tries to
show the content of the MMC but it fails: sometimes it shows nothing,
sometimes a lot of files and directories with strange names like
"╒╙├╙╦¡■▒.σíµ".

When I reload the driver "wbsd" for the CardReader dmesg says:
[17190366.004000] wbsd: Winbond W83L51xD SD/MMC card interface driver, 1.5

[Bug 40931] Same problem with Creative SoundBlaster Extigy

I have got the same problem on an HP Compaq Business Notebook nx7000
with a LPC47N227 SMsC Super IO Controller including a Infrared
Communications Controller: smsc_ircc2 chosses IRQ 7 by default and
conflicts with parport. Forcing smsc_ircc2 to use IRQ 3 (as described

[Bug 131545] writing speed - just one option available

2007-08-10 Thread Stefan Nagy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner

I've got only one option in the drop-down list "write speed" in
nautilus-cd-burner besides "maximum": 18,8x (for CD-R) and 2.0x (for
DVD+R). The real maximum of the drive for CD-R is 16x - so even that
isn't really an option.

The drive is a Sony DVD+R DW-P50A (built inside a HP Business Notebook
nx7000).

I'm using Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.

Nothing changed in Lucid.

Seems like modem-manager tries to send an AT-command which isn't

I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Beta. The tray icon
of Banshee 1.4.3 has a non-transparent (light gray) background when I
set the GNOME panel to be transparent.

[Bug 421334] Re: [karmic] Desktop blacked out when Compiz is enabled on -ati driver

2009-10-07 Thread Stefan Nagy
1. I'm quite shure that this bug is a duplicate of #385539.

2. Sorry for the confusion with Evolution (comment #6). I can reproduce
this behavior with every other application (even nautilus for example) -
just by enlarging the window; there seems to be something like a
'critical size', above which the window content goes black... Can anyone
confirm that?

[Bug 446381] [NEW] German translation bug in the tracklist's context menu

2009-10-08 Thread Stefan Nagy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

When you right-click in the tracklist while playing a track there is an
option in the context menu to jump to the currently played track. The
german translation for that option is "Zum Abspielen von Titel springen"
which means nothing at all - one could translate it with "Play this
track", which would be quite misleading...

The correct translation could be "Zum abspielenden Titel springen" or
maybe better: "Zum aktuellen Titel springen".

Turning KMS on didn't work for me either - I also got mangled fonts plus
other corruptions. I attach the output of dmesg, there are some error
messages like...

[15318.655657] radeon :01:00.0: LVDS-1: no EDID data

I wonder if we should open another bug, maybe at bugs.freedesktop.org,
to see which ATI chips are affected...

[Bug 413259] Re: [KMS][R300] Screen artifacts on X

2009-10-17 Thread Stefan Nagy
I can confirm this bug (with another ATI card - see below). Forcing the
card into PCI mode using the driver option 'radeon.agpmode=-1' is the
only solution for me (even though performance suffers); I tried AGP
modes 1, 2, 4 without any results; option 'EXANoDownloadFromScreen'
didn't work for me either.

I was affected by bug #444139, so I used boot option 'radeon.modeset=1'
to turn on KMS. Since then I'm affected by this bug. The only way to get
rid of screen artifacts and font tearing (as shown by Gytis Raciukaitis)
is boot option 'radeon.agpmode=-1'.

I attach the output of dmesg without option 'radeon.agpmode=-1'

[Bug 676637] [NEW] Wrong aspect ratio with DV AVI files in PiTiVi

2010-11-17 Thread Stefan Nagy
Public bug reported:

When I import a DV AVI file (an amorphic widescreen video) in PiTiVi
v0.13.5 the aspect ratio of the video isn't correct (and I can't correct
it). I suppose it has something to do with the PAR (pixel aspect ratio)
which isn't detected. The PiTiVi-developers told me on the #pitivi-
channel on freenode that this is a GStreamer-bug. I have the same
problem if I try to open the file with Totem using GStreamer.

I don't have the problem with Kino (http://kinodv.org/), so it seems
like my files can't be the cause of the problem.

[Bug 676637] Re: Wrong aspect ratio with DV AVI files in PiTiVi

2010-11-17 Thread Stefan Nagy
I add two screenshots: one of pitivi and the other of kino, both showing
the same scene of the same DV AVI file. In both cases I didn't do
anything else but to import the file and set the timeline to a certain
time.

In contrast to PiTiVi (GStreamer) Kino seems to recognize the pixel
aspect ratio of the video.

[Bug 681163] Re: Add an Apt-P2P tab to the 'software sources'-window

2010-12-10 Thread Stefan Nagy
** Also affects: software-center (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

  Rationale:

As stated in Ubuntu Brainstorm Idea #26532
  (http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/26532/) a decentralized software
distribution concept could reduce the community's dependency on
  expensive server infrastructure. Apt-P2P (http://www.camrdale.org/apt-
p2p/) acts as a proxy between apt requests and a repository server,
downloading any requested files from peers (if possible), but falling
back to a direct HTTP download. The question is: How is it possible to
  faciliate the usage of Apt-P2P?

  Feature Request:

A Peer-to-Peer tab should be added to the 'software sources'-window of
- Synaptic, including a button to active P2P networking (which could mean
- to install the apt-p2p package) and a list of all software sources
- listed in sources.list (which could look like the software sources list
- in the 'other software'-tab) where the user could activate/deactivate
- every single source for apt-p2p. If no source would be activated, the
- apt-p2p daemon could be deactivated (there's a option in /etc/default
- /apt-p2p).
+ Synaptic and/or Ubuntu Software Center, including a button to active P2P
+ networking (which could mean to install the apt-p2p package) and a list
+ of all software sources listed in sources.list (which could look like
+ the software sources list in the 'other software'-tab) where the user
+ could activate/deactivate every single source for apt-p2p. If no source
+ would be activated, the apt-p2p daemon could be deactivated (there's a
+ option in /etc/default/apt-p2p).

Additionally there could be an 'options'-button & -subwindow where users
can set the most important apt-p2p options (like the upload limit etc.,
  see /etc/apt-p2p/apt-p2p.conf).

[Bug 1081885] Re: battery state incorrect on 12.10 for HP folio 13-1020us

2012-12-13 Thread Stefan Nagy
I'm affected by this bug on a HP Folio 13-2000 on Debian Wheezy. Since
package 'acpi' provides a small program that "displays information on
ACPI devices" (see package description:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/acpi), I'm reassining this – as far as
I know ACPI is handled by a kernel module.

[Bug 1081885] Re: battery state incorrect on 12.10 for HP folio 13-1020us

2012-12-13 Thread Stefan Nagy
I tested this with upstream kernel version 3.7.0 and the issue is still
present; so maybe this is an upstream kernel bug. However, I'm not
really sure this is a kernel bug at all – the output of 'acpi -a -b'
seems to be correct… Alan, can you confirm this?

I don't know where UPower get's its information about battery and AC
adaptor status.

[Bug 539163]

2012-12-19 Thread Stefan Nagy
I can reproduce this bug with this graphics card (with compiz & KMS):
ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV250 [Mobility FireGL 9000] [1002:4c66] (rev 01)

When I switch workspaces, rotate the cube or use Expo to view all
workspaces the whole screen gets very dark – but the colours won't
change (as described above).

I can confirm this bug for
· Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick): kernel 2.6.35-30-generic; xserver-xorg-video-ati
1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5; mesa 7.9~git20100924-0ubuntu2

[Bug 994745] Re: Power indicator fails to recognise unplug

2013-03-02 Thread Stefan Nagy
UPower expects the the kernel to produce uevents for battery and ac adapter
status updates but it won't do it on this device. While UPower forces an update
for the battery every 30 seconds (UPowerd tells me: 'No updates on supply
/org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT1 for 30 seconds; forcing update')
it doesn't force an update for the ac adapter.

This seems to be the reason why the charging level reported by the GNOME
battery status applet corresponds to the reported value in
/sys/class/power_supply/BAT1/uevent (POWER_SUPPLY_CAPACITY) but at the
same time the notebook will not be sent into hibernation when battery
status is critical – UPower thinks the notebook is still on ac power.

Since I don't see any power related uevents with 'udevadm monitor' I
guess this is a kernel bug.

[Bug 775648] Re: Can't find/connect any bluetooth devices after kernel-update (2.6.38-9-generic #43-Ubuntu)

2011-09-21 Thread Stefan Nagy
I should add that I'm able to connect devices when I start the
connection from the other side – my smartphone for example. When I do
so, I don't have any problems with the connection. So the problem could
be limited to the ability of my adapter to find other devices.

Regarding my bluetooth keyboard this is definitely a problem, since it's
not possible to start the connection "from the other side"…

[Bug 860509] [NEW] [RV250] Regression: Screen corruptions on X + massive RAM- & Swap-usage

2011-09-27 Thread Stefan Nagy
Public bug reported:

This is a regression, since in Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) – apart from a
minor bug (see bug #539163) – I have no issues with my graphics hardware
and the performance is just incredible. In Ubuntu 11.04 (natty) I'm
affected by heavy graphics corruptions in Gnome & in addition RAM- and
Swap-usage are far from normal. Since my hardware doesn't support OpenGL
1.4 I'm not using Unity but the standard Gnome desktop.

1. Graphics corruptions
1.1. with Compiz
When I use Compiz, after several minutes I see some minor corruptions in the
Gnome panel; normally in the beginning only one applet is affected (I'll attach
a screenshot) but after some time one applet after another gets corrupted.
1.2. with Metacity
When I use Metacity there's one corruption I can always reproduce by opening
Synaptic – when the password is requested, the background should be darkened.
Instead I see all kinds of corruptions. There are also other, less predictable,
corruptions. If it helps something I could add screenshots.

2. RAM- and Swap-usage
After one or two hours of work RAM-usage reaches around 40% (of 2GB) and from
this point on Swap (4 GB) gets filled up until it reaches 100% and the system
is unusable. When I use the same applications in Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) around
30% of my RAM are in use and swap-usage stays under 10%. This applies to Compiz
– if it helps I can test RAM- and Swap-usage with Metacity aswell.

Workarounds
I. radeon-option "RenderAccel" "off"
This option reduces not just the performance but also the problems mentioned
above (but they are still present).
II. Forcing the card into PCI mode
This seems to solve the mentioned problems – at the expense of horrible
graphics performance.
III. radeon-option "EXAPixmaps" "off"
This option seems as the best workaround for me. The symptoms are still present
to a extenuated extent but performance is better than with workaround I & II.

[Bug 766693] Re: [RV250] Screen artifacts on X

2011-09-26 Thread Stefan Nagy
Since I'm not able to reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) I'll
close this bug & open a new one for this issue on Natty. The performance
of this graphics card is great on Maverick, there's just one minor bug –
see bug #539163.

[Bug 775648] Re: Can't find/connect any bluetooth devices after kernel-update (2.6.38-9-generic #43-Ubuntu)

2011-09-26 Thread Stefan Nagy
I found a workaround for my keyboard:

I wrote down the bluetooth device address of my keyboard while using
another pc running Ubuntu 10.10 & paired the keyboard and my notebook
with the command 'bluez-simple-agent hci0 XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX'. After that
my keyboard was listed in the Gnome bluetooth applet and all I had to do
was to klick on 'Connect' – now everything seems to work fine.

As I said before the problem only seems to affect the scanning-process.

[Bug 828912] [NEW] [multiload applet] Background can't be set to transparent

2011-08-18 Thread Stefan Nagy
Public bug reported:

I think it would be great to be able to choose transparency instead of a
specific color for background, free memory and cpu-status 'idle' in the
miltiload GNOME applet. Setting a background color similar to the one
used for the panel is no suitable workaround since at least in some
themes (like Ambience) color gradients are used.

I'm using gnome-applets 2.32.1.1-0ubuntu5 on Ubuntu 11.04 with Gnome

I marked this bug as duplicate of bug #771370 some months ago but since
the problem of the original reporter of that bug is solved and mine is
still present I go back to this bug report – still, you'll find some

Most information is collected upstream (at freedesktop-bugs #36754).

[Bug 795920]

2012-09-05 Thread Stefan Nagy
I add links to two related bugs in the debian BTS:
- debian bug 609903 (HP G62 laptop): LED indicator in the upper left corner of
the touchpad itself.
- debian bug 683762 (HP Folio 13-2000 laptop): LED indicator between the
touchpad and the keyboad.

Apart from that I thought it might be a good idea to add links to the
unfinished patch sent upstream by Takashi Iwai a while ago (review by Peter
Hutterer):
- http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.freedesktop.xorg.devel/13437 (patch)
- http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.freedesktop.xorg.devel/13607 (review)

I'm affected by this bug on the HP Folio 13-2000 laptop. I'd be glad to
provide more information and/or test revised patches.

[Bug 994745] Re: Power indicator fails to recognise unplug

2013-05-03 Thread Stefan Nagy
Hi Marco,

thanks for this – this is really a great workaround for as long as the
fix isn't included in the kernel.

When I use this boot parameter (on a Folio 13-2000) UPower recognizes
un/plugging of the ac adapter and the special keys (brightness +/- and
wireless adapter toggle) are working.

Thanks again!

[Bug 994745] Re: Power indicator fails to recognise unplug

2013-05-03 Thread Stefan Nagy
@ Jack: Read "How to Add a Kernel Boot Parameter"
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBootParameters) and make sure you
added the boot parameter correctly.

As mentioned here (https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/kernel-
parameters.txt) the kernel boot parameter acpi_osi is ment to "Modify
list of supported OS interface strings"; with acpi_osi= we disable all
strings. Instead of disabling all strings I tried to remove single
strings from the list and found out that acpi_osi="!Windows 2009" solves
the problem for me.

As I understand it, the Linux kernel tells BIOS that its ACPI-
implementation is compatible with the one of Windows 7, but this doesn't
seem to be completely true (at least as long as the available patch
isn't applied).

I don't know why this workaround shouldn't work for you (while it works
for other submodels). BTW, does the patch provided in the upstream bug
report solve the problem for you?

[Bug 994745]

2013-03-12 Thread Stefan Nagy
At least in my case the kernel doesn't produce any uevents for the
battery or the ac adapter, so I filed a bug report against the kernel.

UPower seems to force an update of the battery status every 30 seconds,
so the charging level reported by GNOME battery status applet
corresponds to the one reported in /sys/class/power_supply/BAT1/uevent
(POWER_SUPPLY_CAPACITY). 'upowerd --verbose' tells me: 'No updates on
supply /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/battery_BAT1 for 30 seconds;
forcing update'.

However, UPower doesn't force an update of the ac adapter status
(un/plugged), so that's why my notebook wouldn't go into hibernation
when the time defined in /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/power/time-
action is reached.

Since UPower seems to expect the kernel to send uevents for the battery
and the ac adapter, I filed a report against the kernel:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54621.

As I understand it all that remains here is the reqeust that UPower
should force an update of the line_power device in case the kernel fails
to send an uevent. If if this is correct it would make sense to change
the title.

[Bug 1066211] Re: Screen backlight problem on HP Folio 13-1050la

2012-12-01 Thread Stefan Nagy
Try to use kernel boot parameter i915.invert_brightness=1. If it works
have a look at what modinfo has to say to about this i915 paramter:
"invert_brightness: Invert backlight brightness (-1 force normal, 0
machine defaults, 1 force inversion), please report PCI device ID,
subsystem vendor and subsystem device ID to dri-
de...@lists.freedesktop.org, if your machine needs it. It will then be
included in an upcoming module version."

I'm affected by a similar bug on the HP Folio 13-2000 and reported it
upstream, see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51141 – maybe
the provided patch works for your notebook model too. If it doesn't, you
could send an e- mail to dri-de...@lists.freedesktop.org as statet
above.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 676637] Re: Wrong aspect ratio with DV AVI files in PiTiVi

2013-06-22 Thread Stefan Nagy
@ madbiologisst: Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Since I didn't need to edit any more videos I didn't keep track of this
bug. I'm working on Debian (Jessie) now and I can't reproduce this bug
anymore with gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg (0.10.13-5) – neither with PiTiVi
