Evolution 2.24 changed a return value for a function to access folders and the

[Bug 157398] Re: GNOME default DPI doesn't match X default DPI

2009-04-04 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
It seems that since Jaunty Beta, this is ignored again and there is a
default of 96 DPI (at least for both nv and nvidia) set in gconf for
LiveCD and Install.

"gconftool-2 --unset /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi" will remove this
default value and subsequently, X-based auto-fontsize works - though in
gnome-appearance-properties, it still shows 96, no matter what. IIRC,
the latter is not the case in Fedora.

[Bug 157398] Re: GNOME default DPI doesn't match X default DPI

2009-04-04 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
It seems broken again on current Jaunty.

Steps to reproduce:

Xorg gets DPI from EDID:
(--) NVIDIA(0): DPI set to (85, 86); computed from "UseEdidDpi" X config
(--) NVIDIA(0): option

Appearances shows 96 DPI. Setting it to 96 keeps the default size,
setting it to 86 makes the fonts smaller.

"gconftool-2 --unset /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi" removes the
default 96 DPI, the fonts get smaller (same size as manually setting to
86).

After logging out and in, the fonts are back to the default size (96).

Given the take on Plextor regarding Linux and alternate Q-Check tools,
most certainly, this was my last Plextor drive.

[Bug 217749] [NEW] [Hardy] Regression: External crypto-drives are not automounted after given password

2008-04-15 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
Public bug reported:

Until recently in Hardy, when plugging in a USB drive with a LUKS
partition, after entering the password in the GUI prompt, the partition
was automounted.

Now it still asks for the password, opens the LUKS container - but
doesn't mount it anymore.

Oddly enough, http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices doesn't really
work as:

$ gnome-volume-manager -n 2>&1 | tee gvm.log
bash: gnome-volume-manager: command not found

Good to know - it shows up as process, though.

Nothing at all, oddly enough - and dmesg doesn't show anything strange,
either.

Even stranger:

After logging off and on, it worked... once.
After rebooting, it doesn't - even after logging on and off.

It's the same for my desktop and notebook and fsck says the mapped ext3
volume is ok.

2008-04-16 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
It get's really weird now:

On my desktop with the same versions, my USB thumb drive is mounted reliably.
The external hard drive was, again, mounted once... then not anymore afterwards.

thumb-drive: ext2 in AES-XTS-plain 512
hard-drive: ext3 in AES-XTS-plain 512

The only errors in .xsession-errors were:
(gnome-mount:6470): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_main_quit: assertion `main_loops !=

Which happens if one cancels the password dialogue.

For obvious reasons (XTS only available on >= 2.6.24), I could not test

On Fedora, automounting works fine for both my external crypt-drives on my

[Bug 217749] Re: [Hardy] Regression: External crypto-drives are not automounted after given password

2008-04-16 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
The Fedora LiveCD makes my notebook mount the crypto-thumbdrive fine, too -
using gvfs 0.2.0.1-1.fc9 and gnome-mount 0.8-svn20080225.4.fc9.
Upgrading it to gvfs 0.2.3-1.fc9 and gnome-mount 0.8-svn20080225.5.fc9 works,
too

So it looks like something broke on Hardy since 8.4.2008 - either in general or
for both my machines.
Will test it with a daily LiveCD later on.

[Bug 217749] Re: [Hardy] Regression: External crypto-drives are not automounted after given password

2008-04-19 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
Started poking around with the 20080419.1 LiveCD and suddenly, it won't even
accept the password anymore.
On the Desktop install it still does, though it fails to automount the
crypto-drive after opening.

Judging from the log I think it's a concurrency problem at HAL level,
happening because the mapped volume is probed too early by HAL (hald-
probe-volume), sometimes before it's actually opened by cryptsetup (key
slot 0 unlocked).

[Bug 217749] Re: [Hardy] Regression: External crypto-drives are not automounted after given password

2008-04-19 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
However, after applying the current updates to the notebook and desktop
installs, both are now able to automount the crypto-thumbdrive
sometimes.

In the attached log of a successful mount it is visible that 'key slot 0
unlocked' still happens after 'probe-volume' - but before
'volume_id_probe_all returned' - thus, the FS is detected and
subsequently mounted.

Yes.

I'm able to browse the overview of the samba server and see the shares -
but can't access them.

Folder and file permissions on the samba server were autoset by Nautilus
and verified.

2008-04-13 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
smb.conf should be default, shares are done by net usershare through the
Nautilus GUI.

In fact, even the Ubuntu machine running the samba server can't access
those shares.

Exactly (drwxr-xr-x+) - it's a read-only share, set up by Nautilus.

Here it is:

It's basically the same for XP: It complains that the share cannot be
accessed.

/var/log/samba is always:
> '/home/normal/Daten/Filme' does not exist or permission denied when
> connecting to [filme] Error was Permission denied

If I disable Guest Access in Nautilus the password dialogue pops up in
Ubuntu and after entering it correctly, I can access the share.
If I cancel the dialogue, the same error message as above is shown.

2008-04-01 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
It's not a bug - it's a feature.

Honestly, it just tries to load the module for hardware encryption support of a
VIA Epia - so users of a VIA Epia will have hardware acceleration for
encryption out of the box.
For everyone else, it will fail loading and no harm is done.

[Bug 202360] [NEW] [Hardy] If there is not enough space for the Notebook button, Tomboy crashes when clicking it from drop-down

2008-03-14 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
Public bug reported:

By default, Tomboy notes windows are not big enough to show the delete
and notebook buttons in the toolbar.

In this case, there is a drop-down menu to select them. However, when
selecting the notebook entry from dropdown, Tomboy crashes.

After increasing the note window size to at least show the Delete button once,
such crashes don't appear anymore - even if the note's window size is
subsequently decreased to not show those buttons anymore.
The notebook selektion, however, is drawn way outside the note window in this
case.

[Bug 202546] [NEW] [Hardy] Brasero fails if CUE sheet only specifies filename

2008-03-15 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
Public bug reported:

brasero 0.7.1-3

Situation:

Both .bin and .cue are in the same directory.
CUE sheet is opened with Brasero and tried to be burned.
(Tried doth with letting brasero choose image type and manually specifying .cue)

Burning fails with error:
size can't be retrieved for ToGuardianAngel.bin: No such file or directory.

However, after editing the CUE sheet to specify the full path in the
FILE header instead of just the file name, Brasero burns happily.

As Brasero is the default application for burning CUE sheets, it should
check the path of the CUE sheet for the image before failing - hard
paths are not usual in CUE sheets.

[Bug 201598] [NEW] [Hardy] Eye of Gome zoom doesn't work as advertised anymore

2008-03-12 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Ubuntu 8.04
eog 2.22.0-0ubuntu1

EoG Help states:

You can zoom in or out of the image in the following ways:
* Use the Ctrl+scroll wheel on a mouse. Scrolling down zooms out; scrolling
up zooms in.

HIG states (http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/stable/input-
mouse.html.en):

Ctrl+scrollwheel-up should zoom into the window or control under the
mouse pointer, and Ctrl+scrollwheel-down should zoom out. Zooming in
this way should not move keyboard focus to the window or control being
zoomed.

While I'm fairly certain that while earlier in 2.21 it worked that way, now
with 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 it's exactly the opposite as described above in EoG:

Moving the mouse wheel up or tilting it right zooms in, moving it down
or tilting it left zooms out.

And the kicker is: Ctrl+Up scrolls up, Ctrl+Down scrolls down,
Ctrl+Right scrolls right... and Ctrl+Left does nothing at all! (In
Evince, Scrolling works both vertically and horizontally)

2008-03-12 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
Ok, that Ctrl-Left does nothing is due to the fact that while both tilt
directions of the scroll wheel create Button events alone, only
Ctrl+Right creates an altered state Button event while Ctrl+Left creates
a ConfigureNotify event... like if the window manager grab the event.

Is there a known shortcut on Ctrl+Button 6 or a way to grep for active
shortcuts?

[Bug 190754] Re: Over-optimistic buffering in PulseAudio causes underruns (audible stuttering, pops)

Gutsy had Jitter with O1 and ALSA when there was heavy load, like crypto disk

That problem is gone with Hardy - CFS really manages to keep sound stable in
such sitations.

The interesting thing is that it only happens when minimizing/raising

2008-03-28 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
Public bug reported:

In Evolution 2.22 (and 2.12 as well), it is flat out impossible to
export/backup your own personal S/MIME certificates:

The buttons are disabled (greyed out) and won't come to life - while the
documentation states this is possible.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Import personal S/MIME certificate
2. Try to export it

[Bug 208383] [NEW] Evolution allows deleting personal S/MIME certificates without proper password

2008-03-28 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

In Evolution 2.22, one can delete certificates without having the proper key to
the certificate storage - even though one is asked for it:
The password dialog for the personal key storage pops up... but it doesn't
matter anymore - the key is deleted before confirmation.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Import personal S/MIME certificate
2. Select certificate and delete it

** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Visibility changed to: Public

[Bug 14010] Re: grub-install fails for JFS root partition

2008-03-07 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
Installing Hardy Alpha 6 on my old laptop, I used JFS for the root partition
(including boot and home).
The install went just fine, including GRUB - even update-grub (to get
acpi=force enabled) just worked like expected.

My desktop now boots from a JFS root as well... no problems so far.

[Bug 200363] [NEW] Comix does not create ebook-thumbnails anymore in Hardy

2008-03-09 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: comix

In Gutsy, Comix opened .cbz .cbr and .cbt ebooks (archives with pictures
in) by default - and created a nice thumbnail from the first
picture/cover.

In Hardy, one has to manually set Comix for open said files and
thumbnails are created no more.

[Bug 94210] Re: Better Feedback for failed WebCal

2008-03-10 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
The problem still persists with Hardy Alpha 6+. (Evolution 2.21.92)

Addding the calender with New Calender - On the Web includes it, but does show
no events if enabled.
Downloading the calender and importing it into an existing calender works, on
the other hand.

[Bug 27316] Re: Plextor DVD-RW drives do not detect DVDs properly until an audio CD is inserted

2008-03-10 Thread Rotbart van Dainig
In fact, my PX716-SA not only worked for me under Gutsy when I hooked it
up again, but also was able to read a strange DVD no drive else would.

The message indeed was the same as reported in bug #37128 - only in
german.

As of today, this bug is fixed with the current upstream release.
