Nothing at all, oddly enough - and dmesg doesn't show anything strange,
either.

Even stranger:

After logging off and on, it worked... once.
After rebooting, it doesn't - even after logging on and off.

It's the same for my desktop and notebook and fsck says the mapped ext3
volume is ok.
