[Bug 55789] Frequency incorrect in file uk-Heathfield for dvb-t tuning
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dvb-utils In version 1.1.0-9 in universe the file contains:- # Heathfield, South-east England # T freq bw fec_hi fec_lo mod transmission-mode guard-interval hierarchy T 538000 8MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 2k 1/32 NONE But if last line corrected to:- T 53800 8MHz 3/4 NONE QAM64 2k 1/32 NONE That is 3 more zeros on the frequency then file seems to work just dandy. Before correction scan (from this package also) run on this file would fail with "ERROR: initial tuning failed" after correction all seems OK. bug report #46513 requesting upgrade to 1.1.1 of linuxtv-dvb- apps-1.1.1.tar.bz2 will not address this as there is no uk-Heathfield file in the base package. I hope this helps someone and that I have entered this bug report correctly. ** Affects: linuxtv-dvb-apps (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Frequency incorrect in file uk-Heathfield for dvb-t tuning https://launchpad.net/bugs/55789 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 35490] Re: kamera detection does not work
kubuntu 6.0.6.1 added to Ubuntu 6.0.6.1 via alternative CD I have very similar behaviour with my Canon Power Shot A70 Plug in and switch on and click OK to "USB Imaging Interface - KDE Daemon" dialog (open in new window default) system:/media/camera is opened with Canon PowerShot A70 folder clicking on this folder gives url of :- system:/media/camera/camera with an unknown file called the same as previous folder clicking on this file gives an "Unknow error Bad parameters" message with the following as the url system:/media/camera/camera/camera Also when the camera is switched on a desktop icon "USB Imaging Interface" appears with Base URL: camera:/ Clicking on this icon takes me to konqeror with "media:/camera" containing the same folder as above (camera name) but clicking on the folder does nothing. But "camera:/" gives the same directory name and clicking on this gives me access to a dcim folder with contains others '###CANON' which in turn contains the potos. But digiKam works a treat after adding the camera, and the gnome system seems to work OK too but only a little testing on these two. -- kamera detection does not work https://launchpad.net/bugs/35490 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 71787] edgy - synaptic fails to add kubuntu cdrom
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: synaptic This has all be done on a clean install of edgy, first without anything being installed and then with all updates installed as of writing this. Previously in Dapper on inserting the kubuntu cdrom a dialog would appear asking if you wanted to add the disk as a repository. This was a very nice touch and doesn't happen in edgy. >From synaptic selecting - settings - repositories - third party - Add CDROM asked to insert a disc in the drive I insert edgy kubuntu and remove the nautilus window that pops up and confirm the disk has been inserted. Disk is scanned (in fast mode) and then unmounted with the "Unmounting CD-ROM..." message persisting in the "Scanning CD-ROM" dialog until I close the dialog. But the cd had not then been added, either anywhere in the "Software Sources" dialog that remains or in sources.list. Although on closing this "Software Sources" dialog I am informed that "Repositories changed" Going through the same process after first having invoked synaptic via gksudo the terminal indicates:- /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/apt/__init__.py:17: FutureWarning: apt API not stable yet warnings.warn("apt API not stable yet", FutureWarning) ('Officially supported', '') ('Restricted copyright', '') ('Officially supported', '') ('Restricted copyright', '') gpgv: Signature made Wed 25 Oct 2006 15:16:06 BST using DSA key ID FBB75451 gpgv: Good signature from "Ubuntu CD Image Automatic Signing Key <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>" ('Officially supported', '') ('Restricted copyright', '') ('Officially supported', '') ('Restricted copyright', '') A work around for now is:- sudo apt-cdrom add which seems to do the trick and adds a line to sources.list but it seems to do the equivalent of -f and so doesn't check the integrity of the cdrom. A related bug report may be Bug #56297, their experience although different amounts to the same problem of not being able to add a cdrom. Adding the dapper kubuntu cdrom via synaptic in Dapper worked fine. [Bug 65034] kmail import (kmailcvt) from older kmail ~/.Mail misses inbox & outbox mails
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kmailcvt When I installed Ubuntu 6.06.1 followed by same version of kubuntu-desktop over the top of a Mandriva 2005 install whilst preserving the previous /home partition I found that importing my previous kmail via kmailcvt :- 'file' 'import messages' 'Import KMail Maildirs and Folder Structure' from ~/.Mail the old contents of inbox (but not it's subfolders), sent-mail, & drafts were not imported. Work around:- It turns out that in ~/.Mail the inbox, sent-mail, & drafts folders were stored in MBOX format while the sub folders of inbox were imported correctly as they were stored in the normal kmail format. N.B. It was possible to import these missed folders individually via the:- 'Import mbox Files (UNIX Evolution)' and selecting each in turn. On another machine, also from mandriva 2005, the import worked a tread, but on this machine the inbox, sent-mail etc were all in kmail format. Main point:- Shouldn't the kmailcvt kmail filter import correctly even if the previous kmail install used mbox for it's main folder formats. Hope this helps someone, and I realise that it is of dubious bug status. ** Affects: kdepim (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- kmail import (kmailcvt) from older kmail ~/.Mail misses inbox & outbox mails https://launchpad.net/bugs/65034 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 55789] Re: Frequency incorrect in file uk-Heathfield for dvb-t tuning
Apologies for not updating this bug report. As of Ubuntu 6.10 with dvb- utils version 1.1.1-2 Thomas Schmidt detailed in the file /usr/share/doc /dvb-utils/changelog.Debian.gz the following:- linuxtv-dvb-apps (1.1.1-2) unstable; urgency=low * Added 06_scan_uk-heathfield-fix.dpatch to fix the uk-Heathfiels scanfile as reported in Ubuntu bug #55789 * Bumped Standards-Version to 3.7.2 -- Thomas Schmidt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mon, 28 Aug 2006 23:24:20 +0200 Apologies again for not noting this on the bug report but was unsure of the etiquette. I can confirm that the above patch added by Thomas addresses the issue I was having and represents a complete fix. Due to the above this bug was never present in Ubuntu 6.10 or 7.04; but is still outstanding in 6.06 as backports does not seem to contain the updated version of dvb-utils as of just now. My Thanks goes to all those involved in addressing this issue. I am sure that the tens of thousands of people in the UK Heathfield transmitter area will also be grateful now that it will "just work" in the newer releases of this package. -- Frequency incorrect in file uk-Heathfield for dvb-t tuning https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/55789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 5608] Re: SWAT expects to authenticate as root
Although this is not advisable from a security point of view you can use swat with the root account if you first give the root account a password. It is there it just doesn't have a password. To give the root user a password you do:- sudo passwd root you will then be prompted for your normal user password in order to execute the sudo command but only if you haven't used sudo for a few minutes, you will then see the following :- Enter new Unix password: this means the new root password as the user passed to "passwd" was "root" you will then be asked to retype this new password and you are away for using swat as root. This worked for me on a secure network with feisty (after first installing the openbsd-inetd package which can be used to launch swat) Please note this has a baring on the system security and as such you should really understand what the implications are before doing this. But if you are on a secure network then great. Again note that this is a bad idea as you root password will be transmitted in open text across a network if you use swat over a network, use with extrem caution and only if you know about such things. I have added this note by way of supplying a work around. Please be advised that I am not an expert in these matters and hope that this comment might attract other more knowledgeable ones. [Bug 62980] Re: Arrow keys are incorrectly mapped in vim
I get similarly unusable key mappings as this using a very generic desktop, uk keyboard, and the edgy rc with all updates as of writing applied. I get exactly the same as the duplicate bug 67105 whilst in a gnome- terminal and very different but equally unusable key mappings whilst in a regular terminal (Ctrl-Alt-Function-key). Work Around:- But all is well in both gnome-terminal and a regular terminal if I invoke vim.tiny not via "vi" but using "vim". p.s. my alternatives settings /etc/alternatives/vi -> /usr/bin/vim.tiny /etc/alternatives/vim -> /usr/bin/vim.tiny Hope this helps -- Arrow keys are incorrectly mapped in vim https://launchpad.net/bugs/62980 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 66299] Re: [edgy] Need acpi=force to get working suspend and power down
Thanks; this worked for me in edgy rc when I had the same problem but I hadn't tried this machine with dapper so not exactly like your situation. However the problem on my machine was that apm didn't power off the machine correctly where as previously (with several other older distributions) it had powered off without the need to force the acpi because the bios date according to dmesg is 1999, so I don't think I have ever used acpi on this machine. I think this bug may be another duplicate of #43961 "Power down after shutdown does not work..." as there are confirmations within #43961 that include this behaviour in edgy. -- [edgy] Need acpi=force to get working suspend and power down https://launchpad.net/bugs/66299 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm that at least with a live boot cd of 9.10 this situation still exists in both 32bit and 64bit, but as before I only have limited access to this machine. I will attempt to get hold of it again and install 9.10 so that I can try your suggestion. Thank you for your attention in this matter as I was wondering quite where to go with it, beyond waiting for 10.04. @^_Pepe_^ Thanks, I have also just followed the procedure detailed at:- https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend But all I got from the resulting dmesg of the boot just after hung resume was:- [1.720539] Magic number: 0:291:348 [1.720542] hash matches /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/drivers/base/power/main.c:419 [1.720658] rtc_cmos 00:03: setting system clock to 2052-12-10 21:19:28 UTC (2617478368) This is completely repeatable, every first suspend resume is fine and every second (from clean power on) results in the same hang and the same magic number. The CD drive sounds like it is at least partially initialized but the hd does not power up. There is no evidence (flashing lights) of oops here. Thank you for your attention in this matter. My friend has two identical machines and my report earlier referring to the 32bit and 64bit boot cd test of 9.10 suspend resume was with the other machine to the one I now have so that should rule out some things (all updates applied to this install of 9.10 made no difference in behavior to the suspend resume problem. [Bug 352583] Re: [Hewlett-Packard Compaq Presario A900 Notebook PC] suspend/resume failure
I can confirm something similar (as no evidence of kernel oops) Have just installed 9.04 (32bit) on a Compaq A900 (A975EM) and although it appears to suspend and resume fine the first time. The second time it appears to suspend but does not resume. This is with all standard updates applied as of 7th September so kernel version 2.6.28-15-generic. [Bug 924660] Re: 12.04 Installer stuck on 'Removing conflicting operating system files'
I installed with a different username than already existed on the original home partition. But mounted the original home as home2 as suggested by Stephen Rees-Carter above. Then guided by Stephen's advice, prior to rebooting after the install had finnished I did the following. A home dir was created by the install in /target/ with the new user's dir in it, ie /target/home/hettie. This contains the new skeleton users home. I moved this /target/home/hettie to /target/home2 using:- sudo mv /target/home/hettie /target/home2/ N.B. the user created during the install was "hettie" This does leave a /home on what will be the / but that will be mounted over with the existing real home partition. If you feel confident enought that you are not removing something then also do:- sudo rm -rf /target/home I then did the edit suggested by Stephen Rees-Carter above with the following sed command. sudo sed -i 's/home2/home/' /target/etc/fstab sync then rebooted using the dialog indicating that the install had finnished that we have been ignoring this whole time. This way I get a clean new user and preserve the data of the existing user, and have the existing home partition for both. Also note that if the original user was the only and first created users from a previous Ubuntu install then you will have all rights to the existing users home directory via /home/originalusername N.B this is not to be advised unless you know what you are doing or you are prepared to loose all of your existing /home if you make a mistake. I know this isn't any help with the bug but it might help some get going on the beta so they can help elsewhere. P.S. one can always re-create the original user in the new system and then (where username=original user name):- sudo chown -R username.username /home/username from a Ctrl+Alt+F1 session then return gui login via Ctrl+Alt+F7 Hope this helps someone. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/924660 Title: 12.04 Installer stuck on 'Removing conflicting operating system files' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/924660/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sorry for multiple posting but this bug report seems more fitting for my circumstances than the one I just posted the following in:- Fresh install of 12.04 with local usb hp1600 printer which works for local prints. Enabled sharing for this printer but it stated not published so I used http://localhost:631 admin and ticked share. Cannot print from 11.10 Ubuntu system to this 12.04 using the network printer that appears in the list automatically. the resulting message on the 12.04 hosting the printer was:- E [04/May/2012:15:19:18 +0100] Returning IPP client-error-document- format-not-supported for Print-Job (ipp://192.168.1.111:631/printers/HP- Color-LaserJet-1600) from 192.168.1.101 Using the network printer that appears automatically in the fresh 12.04 install that does not have the printer attached locally also doesn't work. This printer is found via the DNS-SD system. Print status as Processing - Not connected? and cups error_log on that machine states The printer is not responding. But adding the printer on the 12.04 client system via:- Add - expand "Network Printer" ignore the advertised network printer (the DNS-SD one) - Find Network Printer - and enter the ip address of the 12.04 system hosting the usb printer and clicking the find button. -- result is a straight ipp address. --- forward button and changed name and resulting network printer work just dandy. summary cant print from 11.10 to 12.04 via ipp can print from 12.04 to 12.04 via ipp but not if I used the initially supplied dns-sd address. hope this helps. [Bug 990734] Re: Unable to print to networked printer after fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit
Fresh install of 12.04 with local usb hp1600 printer which works for local prints. Enabled sharing for this printer but it stated not published so I used http://localhost:631 admin and ticked share. The printer was then visible on the network to another 11.10 and 12.04 Ubuntu system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990734 Title: Unable to print to networked printer after fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cups/+bug/990734/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 961255] [NEW] wacom intuos 3 not working after resume -- with fix
Public bug reported: After a suspend resume cycle in 12.04 beta 1 fully updated as of 21 March Wacom Intuos 3 stylus doesn't work. Works find when plugged in live and when already plugged in on power up and when unplugged and plugged in again whilst system is on. But if left plugged in and suspend resume cycle takes place then although the wacom module is still loaded afterwards and the "System Settings" "Wacom Graphics Tablet" section shows the tablet as plugged in the stylus (I only have a stylus) is non functional, ie no X cursor effect. Entered as bug agains pm-utils as not sure where to put it and that is where I found the fix. Exchanging the # SUSPEND_MODULES="" for SUSPEND_MODULES="wacom" in /usr/lib/pm-utils/default fixes the issue. Then pen is fully working over suspend resume cycle. Tested multiple cycles with mypaint open during the suspend resumes and styles works for X pointer movement and pressure after the resumes. [Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around
I have this "Laptop battery (estimating..)" on battery left click. Doesn't change - Compaq Presario A900 (bios f.33) whilst on battery cat /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0/current_now 0 cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state present: yes capacity state: ok charging state: discharging present rate:0 mW remaining capacity: 3422 mWh present voltage: 10800 mV So same situation where no current rate is given. But graphic bat OK and % reading in power stats details tab. I haven't tried ppa:brian-rogers/power yet but thanks to Andy Eyre and Brian Rogers for the option. As it is a client machine and non crucial bug I am reluctant to modify from vanilla much. -- Battery life estimation never comes around https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/629258 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 112397] Re: SYNAPTIC PACKAGER MANGER PROXY FREEZE
I think this problem has returned with 10.10 (synaptic 0.63.1ubuntu14) I ran into this problem with 9.04 or 9.10, cant remember which but haven't seen it with 10.04 But I have just had the same thing happen with 10.10 with all updates applied as of 3rd Nov. I had simply set synaptic - preferences - network tab - Manual proxy configuration http to a local lan ip and custom port. This first step worked but it took synaptic quite a while to respond. The problem / synaptic hang occurred when I went to return to "Direct connection to the internet" setting a while later. I tried to run synaptic via gksudo synaptic but no additional lines were output to terminal during the attempt to change back to direct. I changed useProxy "1" to useProxy "0" in /root/.synaptic/synaptic.conf to change back to no proxy successfully (as Timotheo above, thanks) I am now not able to reselect the remembered proxy setting via the gui as above. I have again run synaptic via gksudo and again no additional lines were output but running system monitor show that 2 processes are busy at-spi-registryd and synaptic taking 50% cpu each for a while then synaptic raising to 90 odd and at-spi-registryd is then mostly sleeping and jumping around the 2-4% cpu. Force quitting via gui prompt when closing the main synaptic window (the proxy window is still open) results in synaptic still running according to processes in system monitor. Killing via system monitor works though. race condition? I tried to get further information by:- gksudo strace synaptic and caught the following repeating endlessly after I had tried to change the proxy settings:- poll([{fd=6, events=POLLIN}, {fd=11, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}], 3, -1) = 1 ([{fd=11, revents=POLLIN}]) read(11, "GIOP\1\2\1\1$\0\0\0", 12) = 12 read(11, "X0\365X\0\0\0\0\1\0\0\0\1\0\0\0\f\0\0\0\1\1\1\1\1\0\1\5\t\1\1\0"..., 36) = 36 writev(11, [{"GIOP\1\2\1\0\200\v\0\0", 12}, {"X0\365X\3\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\34\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\225P\330\310\314\255((\300+(("..., 2044}, {"ROLE_TOOL_TIP\0\0\0\n\0\0\0ROLE_TREE\0\0\0"..., 900}], 3) = 2956 Hope this helps. -- SYNAPTIC PACKAGER MANGER PROXY FREEZE https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112397 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
