[Bug 218098] [NEW] can't resume with Ati 3D Rage II+
Public bug reported: I am using Ati 3D Rage II+ in dualhead with nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 on Ubuntu Hardy. I am using nv modules for nVidia and ati modules for Ati. When I try to hibernate with X running only on nVidia or just console, everything is working. But when I try to hibernate with X running only on Ati or in dualhead, the computer is unable to resume from hibernate. When the hibernation is executed (by /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh) from terminal (ctrl-alt-f1) with running X, the computer resumes and is working normally until I try to switch to X, than it hangs. When hibernation is started from X, it hangs just after resume. It hangs, but just X. I can connect through ssh, but the I can't get the screen back to working (despite that it can be switched back to console, numlock is shining/not based on which ctrl-alt-fx i choose), even not by restarting gdm and X - the X will always use 90+% and the screen remains blank. [Bug 210224] Re: b43 is not detected by "Hardware drivers" on livecd (Hardy)
I tried newest Hardy LiveCD, and b43 is detected correctly now. For activating the module is needed to download the firmware (necessity of internet connection to install internet connection is pitty, but understandable in situation where no opensource firmware is available). For this action is needed internet connection, but it is not required by the installer - it only asks if I want to "Fetch and extract firmware?". If I am not connected to internet, the installer ends up with "E: b43-fwcutter: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1", which is really not something, what will tell user what happend. Now is Jockey in state, when b43 is not enabled, but enabling it will not cause any actual effect. To get wifi to work is needed to reinstall b43-fwcutter connected to internet. When first-time user gets to this state, it is almost imposible to get it working. [Bug 218922] Re: b43 is not working after installation without internet connection in jockey
>Broadcom should just allow us to redistribute that silly firmware... I don't think, that it is just problem of Broadcom. As I know, GPL is not allowing to distribute GPL code along with non-GPL-compatible code. Whole Ubuntu is derived work of its GPL-licensed parts, and if derived work is distributed, there should be available all its source codes under GPL. I am not lawyer, but I know that from situation when Kororaa came with binary nvidia module on its LiveCD. There was big discussion about this, but result was, as I remeber, that the nvidia module is not distributed anymore on its LiveCD. On Ubunt LiveCD is also not included nvidia binary module, and should be downloaded (and the derived work is not distributed then). The legal way, I see, is to make package (or something), with all problematic binary drivers and firmwares. This package could be placed on second CD or USB disc, allowing user to make everything working out of the box without Internet connection. -- b43 is not working after installation without internet connection in jockey https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218922 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 210000] [NEW] Setting time through clock applet is confusing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools I am using newest Ubuntu Hardy. When user is trying to set time through clock applet (on top panel), he gets a confusing dialog - there is button "Set system time..." which is actually looking like it is supposed to run another dialog with time settings. It is not clear enough for the first time how is this dialog working. There is also no choice to let the time to be synchronized through ntp (which will lead to confusion of user, that there is no such choice in Ubuntu). Date & time could also be changed through time-admin, which, at least for me, looks much more straightforward. It appears to me, that there is no reason to have two different dialogs for the same thing. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Setting time through clock applet is confusing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/21 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 674107] Re: Intel 855GM: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration.
Over the time, the problem transformed, but the originally reported bug seems to be still present. I remembered, that the fall of Xorg was caused by playing video in mplayer (I didn't take that into account, because Xorg used to fall without cause in past). Now, after some updates, I am able to run Xorg again with Intel driver (after more than a year). Although, the bug pops-up, when I try to play a video in mplayer. Occasionally (with WMV video format regularly), the video stops to be displayed (black or blue surface is shown instead). I am not able to play any video until Xorg restart. The mplayer is outputing this: X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation) and xorg.log tails with same lines as before -- Intel 855GM: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
