[Bug 515732] [NEW] The screen turns off after GRUB
Public bug reported: The screen goes COMPLETELY black after GRUB. It doesn't just show a black image, it dies completely. The HDD light continues to blink for a while, and it seems that everything is loaded behind the veil of blackness. This happens with kernels 2.6.32-11-generic, and 2.6.32-12-generic(The latest kernel at the time of writing). It does not happen with kernels 2.6.32-10-generic and earlier, though it should probably be mentioned that nothing but VESA has been able to get me to a GUI so far. Nope, nothing changed using the kernel in the PPA with the latest Lucid Intel drivers. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel - As the summary says, Ubuntu falls back to using VESA at boot. + As the summary says, Ubuntu falls back to using VESA at boot. However, + this only happens with drivers newer than xserver-xorg-video-intel + 2:2.9.1-1ubuntu3, and even in those if I don't use nomodeset. [Bug 515732] Re: Kernel modesetting makes the screen go blank
** Summary changed: - The screen turns off after GRUB + Kernel modesetting makes the screen go blank ** Description changed: The screen goes COMPLETELY black after GRUB. - EDIT: It works with nomodeset, but this definitely isn't optimal. [Bug 1632593] Re: Xorg does not utilize the 3D graphics acceleration capabilities of my device
I reinstalled the package, no dice. I then looked around for it, and found that it had been renamed to old.libgbm1.so, along with the file it linked to. I renamed both, removing the "old.", and now 3D works. [Bug 735781] [NEW] Unity's ALT+F2 lacks functionality present in Gnome 2.XX
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity Steps to repeat: 1. Press ALT+F2 2. start typing a command What happens: 3. The launcher displays various commands, but requires that you use tab or the mouse to get to them. 4. Pressing enter without the complete command entered means nothing happens What should happen: 1. The launcher should, like the one in Gnome 2.XX, try to find the entry in /usr/bin which you're typing the name of. 2. When it has figured it out, it should show the text after the text entry cursor, perhaps slightly faded to show that it is merely a suggestion. 3. Pressing enter should then execute the suggested command. 4. If the user continues to enter text, the suggestion should slowly be replaced by what the user enters if it matches, and disappear if it doesn't. 5. [Bug 665249] [NEW] The Software Center contains no information about minimum requirements
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: software-center The Software Center contains no information about the minimum hardware requirements for the listed applications. This is not usually a problem, since most of the software is free, and can easily be uninstalled if ones computer can't handle. However, with the introduction of commercial software, one can be in a situation where the software one hs purchased will not run properly on one's hardware. For instance, I recently purchased the game Brukkon. An excellent game, I'm sure, but it is unplayable on my netbook, and I had no way to know that my netbook wasn't powerful enough. I also own a desktop machine, so I can enjoy the game there, but some people may only own a netbook, or an old laptop, or maybe there will soon be games in the Software Center with much higher hardware requirements. For this reason, I suggest that it should be a requirement for all commercial software that wants to get into the Software Center to list its minimum hardware requirements in the description.
