[Bug 515732] [NEW] The screen turns off after GRUB

2010-02-01 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
Public bug reported:

The screen goes COMPLETELY black after GRUB. It doesn't just show a
black image, it dies completely. The HDD light continues to blink for a
while, and it seems that everything is loaded behind the veil of
blackness.

This happens with kernels 2.6.32-11-generic, and 2.6.32-12-generic(The
latest kernel at the time of writing). It does not happen with kernels
2.6.32-10-generic and earlier, though it should probably be mentioned
that nothing but VESA has been able to get me to a GUI so far.

Well, without nomodeset, I won't be able to use my laptop at all. I guess
I'll run the command, and then get the files by chrooting in from a livecd.

You should also not use nomodeset, since the intel driver will not work
with that (you may need nomodeset to make the vesa driver work, though).
Did you add nomodeset instead of drm.debug=0x04 by mistake?

[Bug 522383] [NEW] package sun-java6-jre 6-15-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 2

2010-02-15 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
Public bug reported:

When installing Sun Java 6 with the Software Center, it didn't show the
window where you agree to the license, and thus wouldn't install. This
removed all items that were supposed to be installed after anmd, opened
a very dramatic window telling me I had a dependency error, and sent me
to synaptic to install Java from there, where it was shown as a broken
package.

This would be very annoying for the average user.

[Bug 515732] Re: Kernel modesetting makes the screen go blank

2010-02-15 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
** Summary changed:

- The screen turns off after GRUB
+ Kernel modesetting makes the screen go blank

** Description changed:

The screen goes COMPLETELY black after GRUB. It doesn't just show a
black image, it dies completely. The HDD light continues to blink for a
while, and it seems that everything is loaded behind the veil of
  blackness.

This happens with kernels 2.6.32-11-generic, and 2.6.32-12-generic(The
latest kernel at the time of writing). It does not happen with kernels
2.6.32-10-generic and earlier, though it should probably be mentioned
that nothing but VESA has been able to get me to a GUI so far.

- EDIT: It works with nomodeset, but this definitely isn't optimal. Also,
- I'm back to normal graphics drivers with the latest kernel.
+ EDIT: It works with nomodeset, but this definitely isn't optimal.

[Bug 1496542] Re: Running processes left after disabling screen reader

2017-01-04 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
I have the same problem as Travis. Never used the screen reader, then
this suddenly spawned four instances and started spouting gibberish.

[Bug 1632593] Re: Xorg does not utilize the 3D graphics acceleration capabilities of my device

2016-10-12 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
I reinstalled the package, no dice. I then looked around for it, and
found that it had been renamed to old.libgbm1.so, along with the file it
linked to. I renamed both, removing the "old.", and now 3D works. It's
definitely still a bug though.

[Bug 1632740] [NEW] Screen distorts after a period of use, may crash kernel

2016-10-12 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
Public bug reported:

After using my system for a period of time, usually less than an hour,
the screen starts to corrupt. It will vary in intensity, until the
system either crashes, or everything goes back to normal for a while.

When the system does crash, not even the sysrq-key works.

[Bug 1632740] Re: Screen distorts after a period of use, may crash kernel

2016-10-22 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
Well, unfortunatly, upgrading to 1.8 disables both the bluetooth module
and touchscreen on my device(Asus T300 chi), leaving me with no input
options. I suppose that's a separate problem, but it's rather hard to
file. I'll try to find my adapter, borrow a USB keyboard from someone
and file it. I'll update this bug then, too.

2. I click a text field, the addressbar, or the search field in Firefox to

Public bug reported:

What happens:
1. I resume a suspended ciomputer running Ubuntu 12.04, with a paused youtube
video open in firefox.
2. The video viewer appears unresponsive, with no cursur change or highlighting
when I mouse over controls.
3. Clicking the controls does have the expected effect, but I only hear the
audio, with the video being frozen.
4. Everything works again after killing flash from htop.

What I expected to happen:
1. I resume a suspended ciomputer running Ubuntu 12.04, with a paused youtube

top bar.

[Bug 830813] [NEW] Anki crashes X

2011-08-21 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
Public bug reported:

What happened: When trying to start Anki, the harddisk started working
very hard, and everything became unresponsive for a few minutes. Once
the harddisk stopped moving, I opened htop to find the X now consumed
53% of my 4GB of ram! Also, everything was still very unresponsive.
Killing X and logging in again returned everything to normal.

What should have happened: Anki should simply have started.

[Bug 1033488] [NEW] UbuntuOne fails to synchronise folder when invalid symlink with same name as cloud folder is present

2012-08-06 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
Public bug reported:

What happens:
1. I attempt to synchronise the folder called Music in my /home/user folder by
marking it for synchronisation in the the UbuntuOne client window.
2. The folder doesn't exist, and was instead replaced with a symbolic link to a
folder on a local server
3. UbuntuOne fails to synchronise the server, and simply keeps looping
"Gathering information", until the user closes the window.

What should happen:
1. I attempt to synchronise the folder called Music in my /home/user folder by
marking it for synchronisation in the the UbuntuOne client window.
2. The folder doesn't exist, and was instead replaced with a symbolic link to a
folder on a local server
3. UbuntuOne notices that there is an invalid symlink preventing it from
creating the folder for syncing, and prompts the user for permission to delete
it.

Re: [Bug 921276] Re: HUD appears every 30 seconds without any interaction (playing a video in totem in particular)

2012-02-07 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
So far, it looks to me like Ubuntu has decided that this should be fixed
upstream in Totem, and Gnome has decided that since this is(Apparently)
fixed in Totem 3.2.X, which Ubuntu won't ship with, downstream distros
which use older versions of Totem(Like Ubuntu) should patch it themselves.

[Bug 735781] [NEW] Unity's ALT+F2 lacks functionality present in Gnome 2.XX

2011-03-15 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Steps to repeat:

1. Press ALT+F2
2. start typing a command

What happens:
3. The launcher displays various commands, but requires that you use tab or the
mouse to get to them.
4. Pressing enter without the complete command entered means nothing happens

What should happen:
1. The launcher should, like the one in Gnome 2.XX, try to find the entry in
/usr/bin which you're typing the name of.
2. When it has figured it out, it should show the text after the text entry
cursor, perhaps slightly faded to show that it is merely a suggestion.
3. Pressing enter should then execute the suggested command.
4. If the user continues to enter text, the suggestion should slowly be
replaced by what the user enters if it matches, and disappear if it doesn't.
5. Pressing tab with the suggestion displayed should complete the command
according to the suggestion, but not execute it, allowing the user to add
options.

2011-03-03 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
@Marco: I think that would look rather ugly, to be honest. I think one
of my/now two) suggestions would be just asd good, and cleaner.

Sorry about reporting this as a Unity bug, I wasn't thinking straight.

[Bug 680295] [NEW] Nautilus cannot access remote folders via SSH

2010-11-22 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I try to access my server via Nautilus, I get:

"Error: Error reading from unix: Input/output error
Please select another viewer and try again."

I could access it just fine before upgrading from Maverick, and other
computers running Lucid and Maverick respectively can still access it as
well, and I am able to log in via SSH from a terminal with no problem.

[Bug 665249] [NEW] The Software Center contains no information about minimum requirements

2010-10-22 Thread Nicholas Christian Langkjær Ipsen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

The Software Center contains no information about the minimum hardware
requirements for the listed applications.
This is not usually a problem, since most of the software is free, and can
easily be uninstalled if ones computer can't handle. However, with the
introduction of commercial software, one can be in a situation where the
software one hs purchased will not run properly on one's hardware.

For instance, I recently purchased the game Brukkon. An excellent game, I'm
sure, but it is unplayable on my netbook, and I had no way to know that my
netbook wasn't powerful enough.
I also own a desktop machine, so I can enjoy the game there, but some people
may only own a netbook, or an old laptop, or maybe there will soon be games in
the Software Center with much higher hardware requirements.

For this reason, I suggest that it should be a requirement for all
commercial software that wants to get into the Software Center to list
its minimum hardware requirements in the description.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10
Package: software-center 3.0.4
