[Bug 184466] gnome-panel breaks after disabling Xgl in gutsy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I disabled Xgl by creating the file "~/.config/xserver-xgl/disable". After restarting X, I got a lot of error messages such as: The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet". Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration? The applets in question did not load. The error boxes would close spontaneously if not clicked, and often would not respond to interaction with the mouse anyway. The problem resolved by re-enabling Xgl. If the offending applets (mixer, tomboy notes, trashcan etc) were removed from the panel there were no errors. Trying to add them back onto the panel reproduced the error messages. My box is an AMD64 3800+ with nVidia 6600 graphics (repository nvidia driver). It has been upgraded all the way from dapper (?breezy) over the years and has had the various iterations of Xgl/compiz/beryl installed. I am using metacity as a WM with no desktop effects at present. I cannot understand why disabling Xgl should affect the loading of gnome-panel applets. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-panel breaks after disabling Xgl in gutsy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184466 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 184466] Re: gnome-panel breaks after disabling Xgl in gutsy
Thanks Basilio. Rebooting seems to have solved the problem! I can't remember the last time I had to do that on an Ubuntu box... :) Do you think this was a dbus issue? I don't know how I'll reproduce this now, so should we close this bug? [Bug 1917185] [NEW] Nextcloud settings window does not get decorated with window control buttons
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Mate 21.04 daily build fresh install today. Selected "Redmond" layout. Installed nextcloud-desktop and connected to my server. [Bug 1860512] Re: Suspend unreliable (possibly FUSE related)
I can partially reproduce this on Ubuntu Mate 20.04 development release, updated from 19.10. Hardware is a ThinkPad X230. Steps to reproduce: - mount an rclone remote drive - do something which keeps the mountpoint busy (e.g. open the file manager and navigate to a photos folder on the remote drive so the thumbnailer kicks in) - attempt to suspend What should happen: - Laptop suspends What actually happens: - mouse pointer becomes unresponsive for about 30 seconds. WiFi status icon changes to disconnected for a few seconds. Laptop does not suspend. WiFi reconnects and mouse pointer becomes responsive again. Note that simply making the fuse mount with rclone does not inhibit suspend; the problem only occurs if the mount point is busy. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860512 Title: Suspend unreliable (possibly FUSE related) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1860512/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1864293] [NEW] Booting 5.4.0-14 drops to initramfs shell on machine with LVM and full disk encryption
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Mate 20.04 dev release, upgraded from 19.10. LVM/disk encrypion had been set up from the 19.10 installer and had been working perfectly. Today, when I try to boot, the splash screen stalls at the throbber and doesn't open a prompt for my encryption key. After a minute or so it drops to the initramfs shell. Rebooting without "silent splash" on the cmdline shows that `/dev/mapper/vgubuntu--mate-root` cannot be found, and running `ls /dev/mapper` outputs only `control`. Rebooting with the 5.4.0-12 kernel works without any problems. I've added `mitigations=off` to my default boot flags some time ago, if that's relevant? [Bug 1854225] Re: Kernel oops and system lock up when invoking wg-quick up
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected focal ** Description changed: On 2 occasions over the past week I have had full system crashes after running "wg-quick up wg0". On the terminal, the command does not complete (i.e. it does not return to the prompt), the fans on my laptop start whirring and the system gradually becomes unresponsive before my desktop crashes and the system becomes completely unresponsive. On both occasions I opened another window to run "top" to see what process was consuming resources but "top" never actually runs. On the second occasion I managed to run "dmesg" before the system crashed completely and saw multiple lines of text about a kernel oops and red-highlighted text about a null-pointer dereference. I could reboot with "Alt-PrtScr_REISUB". On reboot I was confronted with the "system problem detected" dialog, but selecting the "report" option didn't seem to do anything. I have 2 reports in /var/crash from the last oops which I will attach to this report. I cannot reproduce this on demand. Most of the time, wg-quick performs normally. On both occasions the laptop had recently woken from suspend, but invoking "wg-quick" after waking from suspend doesn't trigger it on demand. On the first occasion I was running with stock boot options. On the second, I was running with "mitigations=off" as an experiment. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 19.10 Release: 19.10 $ apt policy wireguard wireguard: Installed: 0.0.20190913-1ubuntu1 Candidate: 0.0.20190913-1ubuntu1 Version table: *** 0.0.20190913-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu eoan/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu eoan/universe i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt policy wireguard-tools wireguard-tools: Installed: 0.0.20190913-1ubuntu1 Candidate: 0.0.20190913-1ubuntu1 Version table: *** 0.0.20190913-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu eoan/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ uname -a Linux padbeast 5.3.0-23-generic #25-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 12 09:22:33 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux # cat /etc/wireguard/wg0.conf [Interface] PrivateKey = MyPrivateKey= Address = 10.66.66.5/24,fd42:42:42::5/64 DNS = 8.8.8.8,1.1.1.1 [Peer] PublicKey = MyPublicKey= Endpoint = my.domain.com:1195 AllowedIPs = 0.0.0.0/0,::/0 I'm reporting this as a security bug due to the "Null pointer dereference" in the kernel, but don't know if that is relevant. [Bug 1869475] [NEW] Terminal window shrinks when other app is opened/closed to the dock
Public bug reported: Ubuntu mate 20.04 running on a ThinkPad X230 (intel graphics) at 1366x768 resolution using the "Redmond" layout. Steps to reproduce: - Open Mate Terminal in standard 80x24 window - (My font is set to Monospace Regular 10 with "show menu" ticked) - run `for i in {1..23}; do echo $i; done` - Open Telegram (I have the non-snap version installed) - Repeatedly close (using the X button) and re-open Telegram from the dock so it maximises/minimises - Watch the terminal window as you do this What should happen: - terminal window should not be affected beyond gaining/losing focus What actually happens: - Menu bar in terminal window disappears and reappears. Terminal window shrinks and lines are lost from the top of the terminal I think this might be a marco bug. It happens with and without compositing. I wonder if it is related to the switching of focus? [Bug 1713586] [NEW] gnome-software displays wildly inaccurate estimate of package size when a certain deb file is double-clicked in nautilus
Public bug reported: I have created a large deb file of game assets for Quake 4 using the game-data-packager tool in Ubuntu 16.04. If I double-click on this file in Nautilus, gnome-software opens to install the file. However, the file size is incorrectly listed as over 18 exabytes (!) as per the screenshot at https://ovh.themcphails.uk/index.php/s/0pcBDXU0zztzS6a . The output from dpkg-deb and gdebi is as per http://termbin.com/32q7 . I would expect the package size in gnome-software to roughly match the package size listed (correctly) by dpkg-deb. 18 exabytes is a ludicrous estimate - has there been a signed/unsigned error? The deb package installs correctly with dpkg -i. I cannot attach the file to this bug report as it is too large, and contains proprietary code. The Quake 4 game files were obtained from GOG, and the windows install file was unpacked by innoextract. The deb was created by game- data-packager version 44. [Bug 1370190] Re: .desktop files in .local/share/applications not processed correctly
This bug seems to be related to paths under ~/.local/share/applications which have hyphens in the directory path. This seems to cause corruption of the icon parsing or title which is displayed in the dash. As an example (on my 16.04 machine): $ cat << EOF > test.desktop [Desktop Entry] Name=Hyphen test Exec=/bin/true Type=Application Icon=/usr/share/icons/suru/apps/256/dash.png EOF $ chmod +x test.desktop $ mkdir ~/.local/share/applications/hyphen-test $ mv test.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/hyphen-test/ Now, open the dash and search for "hyphen". The problem inly seems to be with hyphens in the directories. Hyphens in the file itself are fine. [Bug 1582433] [NEW] Dash does not handle .desktop files correctly if there are hyphens in the directory path
Public bug reported: The Unity dash can fail to display the icon or title from a .desktop file correctly if it resides under a directory containing a hyphen character. As an example (on my 16.04 machine): $ cat << EOF > test.desktop [Desktop Entry] Name=Hyphen test Exec=/bin/true Type=Application Icon=/usr/share/icons/suru/apps/256/dash.png EOF $ chmod +x test.desktop $ mkdir ~/.local/share/applications/hyphen-test $ mv test.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/hyphen-test/ Now, open the dash and search for "hyphen". [Bug 1459259] [NEW] Apps using OpenAL on the Ubuntu Phone appear to have direct hardware access despite apparmor constraints
Public bug reported: I have been building some apps for the phone which use OpenAL. They will play audio if running under the "audio" policy group. However, the volume of audio is not controlled by the volume slider or "Silent mode" switch and audio can continue to play if the app is backgrounded or phone screen is switched off. After discussion on #ubuntu-touch it was suggested this may imply the apps have direct hardware access, despite apparmor constraints. I do not know if this is a security vulnerability, so I will report it as such to be safe. Attached is a .click package build for Ubuntu phones (armhf). It contains a small OpenAL example app borrowed from a blog site (source code included in click) and bundles the current OpenAL lib from the 14.10 distribution. It runs under apparmor constraints, and is only granted access to the "audio" group. The app would be automatically accepted to the Ubuntu Store. The audio will continue to play until the app is killed by the user. It will play in silent mode, when in the background or when the screen is off. The app has been tested on BQ and meizu devices running RTM and vivid. ** Affects: apparmor (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Attachment added: "Sample application to demonstrate problem" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1459259/+attachment/4405479/+files/altest.njmcphail_0.1_armhf.click ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1459259 Title: Apps using OpenAL on the Ubuntu Phone appear to have direct hardware access despite apparmor constraints To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1459259/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1459259] Re: Apps using OpenAL on the Ubuntu Phone appear to have direct hardware access despite apparmor constraints
As far as I know, it _can_ use pulseaudio but don't know if that is what is happening here. I had been told on the IRC channel that the reason it was not responding to the volume control was because it was not using pulse, and suggested it was directly accessing the hardware. I have no idea how to confirm that but am happy to do any suggested debugging. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1459259 Title: Apps using OpenAL on the Ubuntu Phone appear to have direct hardware access despite apparmor constraints To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/1459259/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1482613] [NEW] Apps with forced landscape orientation display the "wrong" way on the phone
Public bug reported: See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1478637 which is probably the same issue, but for natively landscape orientated devices. When an app sets a forced-landscape mode, the phone must be rotated clockwise from portrait mode to display it properly. This is a more difficult movement than rotating anti-clockwise for people holding the phone in their left hand (e.g. most right-handed people). When an app forces landscape mode, the "top" of the landscape screen should be the right of the portait-orientated screen. ** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1482613 Title: Apps with forced landscape orientation display the "wrong" way on the phone To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1482613/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

There are frequent visitors to the #ubuntu channel with "apt-get dist- upgrade" failures due to full /boot partitions. [Bug 1439680] [NEW] DatePicker scrolls too quickly, making precision difficult
Public bug reported: Using the DatePicker is more difficult than it needs to be. OS: 14.09-RTM Ubuntu-Touch on bq aquaris Example: When adding a new event in the Calendar app, I am presented with 2 DatePicker widgets (one for date and one for time). Expected behaviour: I expect to be able to scroll to my desired date and time quickly and efficiently. I expect it to be particularly easy to select values at the 0,15,30,45 minute times. Current behaviour: A small movement on the DatePicker dial causes the dial to spin quickly. It is far too easy to overshoot the desired value (often by a long way), Making a precise selection is fiddly and takes longer than desirable. "Common" time increments such as 0,15,30 and 45 are no easier to select than 1,16,31 or 46, and the latter are often picked accidently. I don't know if this sensitivity to gesture is due to the high dpi screen, or whether it is resolution independent. ** Affects: ubuntu-ui-toolkit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1439680 Title: DatePicker scrolls too quickly, making precision difficult To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-ui-toolkit/+bug/1439680/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1501668] [NEW] ListItem leadingActions have odd behaviour
Public bug reported: I _think_ this is a bug in the ListItem leadingActions implementation, but please move this if it is another component. Krillin running default channel (Ubuntu 15.04 r25 as per most recent OTA update). In the browser app "bookmarks" page and the clock app "alarms" page, the listed items can be dragged to the right to reveal a "trash" icon. Clicking on that icon will often just remove the icon, rather than the list item. The listed item will only be deleted if the initial right- drag was all the way to the middle of the screen. Example: - Open the Clock app and create a new alarm - drag the alarm far enough to the right for the "trash" item to be visible. Release and allow to settle. The item should be in the "ready to be deleted" state - Click the trash icon. *The icon will disappear but the item will not*. - drag the alarm much further to the right (at least to the middle of the screen), release and allow to settle. Once again, it will be in the "ready to be deleted" state and will be visually identical to the above - Click the trash icon. *The icon and the item will be deleted, which is correct behaviour*. As this affects more than one app, I think the bug is likely to be in the component rather than the app. ** Affects: ubuntu-ui-toolkit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1501668 Title: ListItem leadingActions have odd behaviour To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-ui-toolkit/+bug/1501668/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1515068] Re: bcache-tools should be added by installer if system is installed onto bcache device
Thanks racb. I'd asked in #ubuntu on IRC, and no-one could tell me against which package to file the bug. The problem is with the standard graphical installer from the Ubuntu live disk image. If it is installing onto a bcache'd drive, it should install bcache-tools. I think the installer already handles LVM, encrypted and RAID setups gracefully, and it would be nice if it did the same for bcache. Since pulling in mediascanner2.0 on wily with the ubuntu-sdk package, I have mediascanner-service consuming a minimum of 10% of CPU at all times, with frequent spikes to nearly 200%. My CPU is cooking nicely. To put things in perspective, firefox with 15 open tabs is currently consuming 3.3% of CPU. I'm adding a comment to keep this alive. I have had this bug on occasion on krillin rtm v20. [Bug 1465825] [NEW] Outdated frameworks and templates should be moved or removed
Public bug reported: Now that OTA-4 has brought us the 15.04 framework, it is time to clean up the confusing mess of choices available by default when creating a new project. Obsolete templates and frameworks should be removed, or retired to an "Ubuntu-legacy" tab in the project-creation wizard. The default Ubuntu tab should only show qmake templates and the frameworks selector should only show 15.04 kits. This will save a lot of confusion and frustration. Users targeting desktop 14.04 (I'm sure there are not many) can use "Ubuntu-legacy". ** Affects: qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1465825 Title: Outdated frameworks and templates should be moved or removed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/+bug/1465825/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1459259] Re: Apps using OpenAL on the Ubuntu Phone appear to have direct hardware access despite apparmor constraints
Thanks for the log - if pulse is being used, there must be some reason the volume control doesn't work. I have realised the reason the sound continues playing in the background is due to an unrelated bug: apps continue running in background (or screen-off) when they do not spawn a gui. Thus, this bug is probably assigned to the wrong package. [Bug 1549783] [NEW] Indicator shows "Tomorrow" for an alarm happening today when checked after midnight
Public bug reported: BQ E4.5 (krillin) running OTA9.1 I have 2 recurring alarms set for 0730 and 0800. If I pull down the clock indicator bar after midnight, the 0730 alarm is listed as "Tomorrow". [Bug 1435040] Re: Ubuntu Phone (BQ E4.5) does not connect to car-bluetooth
I cannot connect to the unit in my Hyundai i40, and switching to the latest rc-proposed with bluez5 hasn't changed anything. Symptoms: (1) When car unit is asked to search for devices, the phone is not seen at all. My other bluetooth devices get picked up by this search. I have checked, and the Ubuntu phone should be advertising (2) Putting my car into listening mode, my phone can see it as "i40". If I try to connect, I get the PIN input screen on my phone but nothing happens after I input my PIN. The phone says the i40 is "disconnected" and the car doesn't register anything at all.
