[Bug 415023] Re: brightness is broken on MSI WIND U100
The solution that worked best for me on my U100 was the blacklist one. This reduced the applet from coming on to a few seconds, and it gave me back access to usb ports. But I do agree with the other posters that this and the usb bug are showstoppers for the average user and the advice should be either x or y or stick with UNR 9.04 on an MSI or clone until the problem is fixed. [Bug 434739] [NEW] Slow speed music in Rhythmbox
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox This is with Ubuntu 9.10 alpha 6, operating as a virtual machine with VirtualBox 3.0.6, running on an Intel imac (Snow Leopard). I noted the problem in earlier alphas, and the slow sound is also manifest in the Ubuntu startup sound after login. It is evident in any mp3 or mp4 I play (with gstreamer additions). As the problem was reported to be related to pulseaudio, I tried removing it but nothing changed. For context, I can report that with the same alpha running on the same Mac but in VMware Fusion, there is no sound at all when playing the same mp's, but removing pulseaudio results in normal sound. [Bug 435352] Re: regression: uvcvideo module makes "cannot reset port" error on usb with bison webcam (5986:0203): USB and suspend fails
Upgraded to kernel 2.6.31.20-generic, using the Update Manager. My BIOS was already the latest available (1.0G). I tested the webcam first in CrunchBang Linux to make sure it was enabled on my U100. Rebooted into UNR 9.10, checked to make sure uvcvideo wasn't still blacklisted (I had done that previously to make the usb ports work), and it wasn't. Unfortunately, cheese was still telling me "no camera found". Hoping that all was wrong was the video settings, I tried the "sudo gstreamer-properties" command in a terminal (note: it's gstreamer, not gstreamers), set the video output to X11/XShm/Xv, but it still doesn't work. I'm not willing to start over again with a clean install (10.04 is coming out soon enough), but I would be interested to know if anyone else managed to get their Wind videocam working with some other tweak. -- regression: uvcvideo module makes "cannot reset port" error on usb with bison webcam (5986:0203): USB and suspend fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/435352 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 441745] [NEW] Audio plays at slow speed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio This occurs with the Karmic beta (previous alpha versions did it too), run on VirtualBox (3.0.6) on two core 2 duo Macintoshes (iMac, Mac mini). The audio affected includes the Ubuntu startup sound, YouTube audio, and playback of mp3 and mp4's on Rhythmbox. Sound is running at 50-90% normal speed. I have tried numerous suggested fixes including putting my username in the sound group, deleting the ~/.pulse folder, removing gstreamer pulse-audio and removing pulse-audio itself. I believe that pulseaudio is actually crashing because I keep getting crash reports, and pulse-audio isn't shown in my system monitor. The hardware reported in Sound Preferences is "internal Audio, 1 output, 1 input, Analogue stereo duplex. When I deleted ucvideo from the blacklist, it didn't make the camera work. Not only that, but I lost my usb ports again. Putting it back in the blacklist fixed my usb ports. So I guess they haven't completely fixed the videocamera problem yet. Still, I'm ahead of where I was because the brightness problem is fixed. [Bug 1875211] Re: Cannot be past login screen in kernel 5.7.0-050700-rc2
This one is a bit of an improvement. Boot time to a working desktop was about 3 minutes. But most interesting was that I could change my display resolution almost instantly with a 200% magnification. Attempting to change by adjusting the resolution directly (from 3840x2160 to 2560x1440) caused the usual delay. I will post the SystemD analysis in the next message. ** Attachment added: "dmesg for 5.8.0-rc2 boot" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1875211/+attachment/5386109/+files/dmesg.0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875211 Title: Cannot be past login screen in kernel 5.7.0-050700-rc2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1875211/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also tried fractional scaling; got the same delay. And when I tried adjusting the resolution to 1920x1080 directly with the resolution setting instead of 200% magnification, I got the delay again. So the only fast adjustment is with magnification and no fractional scaling. [Bug 1874104] [NEW] Very slow boot, wake from sleep and shutdown with 5.4 kernel
Public bug reported: I upgraded a Ubuntu 18.04 installation to 20.04 beta on my late 2015 5k 27" iMac. The new 5.4 kernel was installed and has been updated a few times. The former LTS kernel (4.15) was retained. When I start up the computer with the new kernel, the process is very slow and it takes about 2 1/2 minutes to get to a working desktop. Doing the same startup with the old 4.15 kernel (in the 20.04 beta) takes approximately 25 seconds to a working desktop. Similarly, changing display settings, waking from sleep and shutting down the computer all take several minutes with the 5.4 kernel, vs 10-30 seconds with the 4.15 kernel. To provide more information, I tried starting up this computer with the 5.3 kernel from a 19.10 live USB, and from a 5.0 kernel in the Peppermint Linux live USB that is based on Ubuntu. The 5.3 kernel is as slow as the 5.4 kernel, whereas the 5.0 kernel works similarly to the 4.15 LTS kernel. I suspect that the problem relates to the Radeon m9 390x video card in my iMac, but I have no idea what might have changed in the newer kernels to affect their compatibility with this iMac. [Bug 1874104] Re: Very slow boot, wake from sleep and shutdown with 5.4 kernel
Thanks for the quick reply. I installed and tested 5.7-rc2 as per instructions. The new kernel booted up to the login screen, but as slowly as 5.4.0-25. (Over 2 minutes to the login screen.) When I logged in with my password, all that happened was that I was returned to the login screen. I tried logging in three times with the same result. I don't know if this is related, but there were only four 5.7-rc2 modules that applied to my non-low latency install. Normally there is also a signed module, but there was not one present in the mainline ppa for this kernel. Would you like an additional bug report for this boot? [Bug 1874104] Re: Very slow boot, wake from sleep and shutdown with 5.4 kernel
This time with the last fast kernel, 5.2. The bootup was slightly slower than with 4.15, but I think this might relate to snap module loading. I should also point out that the difference between kernels 4.15, 5.1 and 5.2 vs the kernels after 5.3 is more than what is indicated by the SystemD analysis. With the newer kernels there is an additional delay of about a minute from the point where I log in until I get a working desktop. [Bug 1875211] [NEW] Cannot be past login screen in kernel 5.7.0-050700-rc2
Public bug reported: This is an extension of the "slow boot" bug I reported earlier [Bug 1874104]. I have been working with Jouni Mettala, and he was asking me to try the most recent kernels, including the latest in development (5.7.0-050700-rc2). This one not only boots very slowly, but also, I cannot get past the login screen. When I put in my password and hit enter, the screen just returns. I have tried this several times and encountered the same problem except only once. (Not sure why that one was different. Jouni asked me to report this as a new bug. I will attach the dmesg for the 5.7 kernel boot that wouldn't get past the login screen here. Since I can only post one attachment at a time, I will attach the dmesg for the default kernel boot (5.4.0-26) in the next message for comparison. That is a slow boot kernel, relative to any kernel in the 4.15, 5.1 and 5.2 series, but I can at least boot it on this "late 2015" 27" 5k iMac. [Bug 1874104] Re: Very slow boot, wake from sleep and shutdown with 5.4 kernel
I made a separate report of the 5.7-rc2 kernel bug to ubuntu-bug linux as you requested. I will also try to monitor the upstream rc kernels and run tests on them as you have requested. I agree that the slow boot bug is likely connected to the AMD video card in my iMac, and thus to the amdgpu driver. I say that because I also have a 2011 iMac with a much older AMD Radeon video card (6770M), and it has no trouble with the 5.4 kernel in Ubuntu 20.04, nor with any of the kernels that came with 18.04, 18.10, 19.04 or 19.10. If the amdgpu powerplay failing to send message is the problem, is there an easy fix for this? I did look at the changelog for the 5.3-rc1 kernel (the first with the slow boot). There were a lot of changes related to amd and amdgpu by at least 25 people, but I have no idea how to figure out which, if any, of these changes is causing the slow boot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874104 Title: Very slow boot, wake from sleep and shutdown with 5.4 kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1874104/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1509729] Re: gparted does not start, crashes with library symbol lookup error
A variant of trinkity's solution finally worked for me: I deleted LD_LIBRARY_PATH.conf file in /etc/ld.so.conf.d and then executed the command $ sudo ldconfig This worked, and VMware Player still seems to work as well. [Bug 1518715] [NEW] ip rule show/list runs on and on after software update
Public bug reported: I have the iproute2 package installed on a 14.04 LTS system. Everything was operating just fine. I had not done a software update in a while. I used the Software Updater from Dash and updated the system. It updated a couple hundred megabytes. The update completed without error (as far as I know). It said a reboot was needed. So I rebooted. After that, I had problems. Specifically, when I type "ip rule list", the output runs on and on and on, seemingly without end. 0: from all lookup local 0: from all lookup local 0: from all lookup local 0: from all lookup local 0: from all lookup local 0:from all lookup local ... I tried "ip rule flush" which seems to hang. I was eventually able to clear out the rules with: ip rule del pref 0 ip rule del pref 32766 ip rule del pref 32767 But that leaves me without even the 3 standard rules, which are: 0: from all lookup local 32766: from all lookup main 32767: from all lookup default So I need to add those back But as soon as I try to add the first of the 3 standard ip rules, the problem occurs again: ip rule add from all table local pref 0 ip rule list 0: from all lookup local 0: from all lookup local 0: from all lookup local 0: from all lookup local 0: from all lookup local 0: from all lookup local ... The same thing occurs if I try to add any of the other standard rules. I tried updating a second 14.04 LTS machine. The same thing happened to that one. [Bug 1094218] Re: lsb_release crashed with IOError in getstatusoutput(): [Errno 10] No child processes (called by teamviewerd)
Thanks Cedric. 1) According to the comment in the code, the script writer evidently wanted to log information about the distro. I presume this was done to help the TeamViewer folks in their troubleshooting. 2) O.K. Understood. Thanks. The reason for my question was that there are a few posts above that say the bug should now be closed. But this workaround merely avoids lsb_release. It doesn't fix the crash in lsb_release.
