Public bug reported:

This is an extension of the "slow boot" bug I reported earlier [Bug
1874104]. I have been working with Jouni Mettala, and he was asking me
to try the most recent kernels, including the latest in development
(5.7.0-050700-rc2). This one not only boots very slowly, but also, I
cannot get past the login screen. When I put in my password and hit
enter, the screen just returns. I have tried this several times and
encountered the same problem except only once. (Not sure why that one
was different. Jouni asked me to report this as a new bug.

I will attach the dmesg for the 5.7 kernel boot that wouldn't get past
the login screen here. Since I can only post one attachment at a time, I
will attach the dmesg for the default kernel boot (5.4.0-26) in the next
message for comparison. That is a slow boot kernel, relative to any
kernel in the 4.15, 5.1 and 5.2 series, but I can at least boot it on
this "late 2015" 27" 5k iMac. For more information on the slow boot
problem, please see Bug Report 1874104.
