[Bug 1819543] Re: Does not exit correctly, have to "kill -9

2020-07-25 Thread Mattia
Happens to me with all media files. After closing VLC I can't double click
another file until I kill VLC. The applet also does nothing.
This does seem to depend on which type of video output I use. Automatic often
seems to cause this. VDPAU sometimes seem to cause, and OpenGL also sometimes.
It seems to vary with the codec. X11 video output seems to never cause this,
but consumes a lot of CPU. XVideo seems to be fine too, less CPU consumption.

I don't think this is a duplicate. As I said here, pressing install does
absolutely nothing. In the other bug report - that I've read before
posting this one - Ubuntu Software throws an error. If you still think
this is a duplicate, thats fine; as long as it gets fixed soon.

[Bug 1613264] Re: Virt-manager Spice console not working

2017-08-31 Thread Mattia
I had this problem too. Basically, I followed the guide on
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/VirtManager and ran the command
`sudo apt-get install virt-manager ssh-askpass-gnome --no-install-
recommends`. I think OP followed the same guide and therefore bumped
into this issue. This is therefore not a bug as this package is not
essential for this application to run but rather a very useful add-on.
With a quick google you immediately find out what to do if you want this
functionality. The wiki page might need an update.

[Bug 1700657] Re: Touchpad not detected in Lenovo X1 Yoga / Yoga 720-15IKB

2017-10-12 Thread Mattia
I just downloaded the source to the newest stable kernel from
kernel.org, manually added the line that fixes this bug with a text
editor and followed this guide to compile it:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild

It's way more fun this way and you'll have the freshest stable kernel!
I've been using this method since early august and it has been working
out fine. But once 17.10 comes out I suppose this won't be a problem
anymore..

[Bug 1575123] Re: [Xubuntu 16.04] Display stays black if monitor is turned off/on

2016-07-05 Thread Mattia
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1308105 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308105

I've had a similar problem with Xubuntu 14.04. This problem did not happen with
VGA but only with DisplayPort (with DP2HDMI adaptor). Since then I've upgraded
to Ubuntu 16.04 which works fine. I'm gonna try Xubuntu 16.04 on that machine
and see if it still happens for me. I'd change the importance of this bug to
important since you have to either run this or other commands (requires a
keyboard, witch may not be possible if it's used as a MC) or reboot.
Whether this is a duplicate or not will be shown when I do the tests on my
machine since it hasn't a Nvidia card.

[Bug 1575123] Re: [Xubuntu 16.04] Display stays black if monitor is turned off/on

2016-07-05 Thread Mattia
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1308105 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308105

So,
I tried Xubuntu 16.04 on that machine and it made progress, but not completely
fixed.
It still doesn't work with the DP2HDMI adaptor: TV off, TV on -> black screen.
"sudo service lightdm restart" works too for bringing the screen back up. But,
with a VGA to HDMI converter it now works. For some strange reason it didn't
work on Xubuntu 14.04 even tho it worked when directly attached via VGA.

Anyways, it doesn't work via DP (DP2HDMI adaptor). It's probably the same
problem.
This is not a duplicate because this machine does not have a Nvidia GPU but
Intel on-board graphics. I'll post more info soon.

[Bug 1566302] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: Suspend freezes the system after upgrade to linux image 4.4.0-16

2016-05-21 Thread Mattia
4.4.9 works with glitches:
- Mouse pointer not visible after resume. Need to Ctrl+Alt+F1 and the
Ctlr+Alt+F7.

Please fix this and merge the fixes into the kernel of the official repo
so everyone can finally suspend their pcs without installing some kernel
downloaded from a launchpad bug report.

Please and thank you

[Bug 366101] Re: Evolution slows down and nearly freezes when bringing up a new compose window

2009-05-12 Thread Mattia Rossi
Don't know if it can be filed under the same bug, but I have the same
behaviour (60 to 100 seconds wait when clicking on New Mail).

Ubuntu 9.04, evolution 2.26.1

It only happens with one user (i.e. if when I am having this problem I switch
to a different user I don't have the delay).
A reboot 'fixes' the problem for a while, then it pops up again.
Attached is a stack trace of a run from gdb.
I hit the New Message button, waited for 5-10 secs, the hit ctrl-c in gdb
Looks like evolution gets stuck waiting for tracker/dbus to do something

A evolution --force-shutdown doesn't resolve the issue, nor a logout of the
user having the issue.
What I can try next time it happens:
restart dbus/trackerd
disable email indexing in tracker search preferences

Don't know when it will happen again though

[Bug 311393] Re: package libsnmp15 5.4.1~dfsg-7.1ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: il file tar ? rovinato - l'archivio del pacchetto ? rovinato

2008-12-26 Thread Mattia Belletti
The ErrorMessage is something along the line "tar file is corrupt - the package
archive is corrupt" (sorry for not including the translation, I supposed it was
in english somewhere along the automatic attachments)
In fact, I can't reproduce it either: after half an hour I tried again and the
upgrade process went smoothly this time.
sources.list was unchanged since the installation, but now I've added the
proposed update (to get the latest kernel, otherwise my speedtouch modem would
make it go BUG); I attach it anyway.
Since it now works, perhaps you could just mark it as invalid, even though it's
quite a curious behaviour. Could it be some kind of server problem?
Thank you anyway!

Ok, I found the packages that allowed me to hear flash sounds:

I've installed libflash-mozplugin libflash0c2 libflashsupport and
eveything seems to go in the right way.

I think it's because flashplayer use the oss output and ubuntu hardy
utilses pulseaudio like soundserver. So, with libflashsupport it goes
on.

Applying the patch there is a hunk in debian/control lines, cause I've

[Bug 1876350] Re: python-pylibacl-doc package exists but not python-pylibacl

2020-11-29 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
according to the python policy, the naming for python doc package is
"python-$name-doc", but with python2 going away the module for python3
is in the package "python3-$name".

As such, you can find the python module you are looking for in the
python3-pylibacl package.

This is considered a support question, please refer to user support next
time.

[Bug 1928946] [NEW] syncpackage: downloads .dsc when it really isn't needed

2021-05-19 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Public bug reported:

It seems that starting from a few versions, syncpackage downloads .dscs,
stores them in ~, and leaves them there.

AFAIK there is no need to download anything to sync a package, as
launchpad should be able to handle everything through its API, so I'd
say the bug is threefold:

1) shouldn't download anything if not needed (when is it needed?!)
2) shouldn't store things in ~ at all, use a tempdir in TMPDIR instead
3) shouldn't leave temporary files around

Currently running version 0.181 under Debian unstable.

[Bug 1933681] [NEW] Change the default network from Freenode to Libera

2021-06-25 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu moved their default IRC channels from freenode.net to
libera.chat.

Hence, we need to update hexchat to change its default network.

[Impact]

 * users will connect by default to freenode, which is not a good idea
 * also libera.chat should be in the available network list, even disregarding
the default one

[Test Plan]

 * install hexchat
 * the connection page should point to libera right away

[Where problems could occur]

 * can't think of any

[Other Info]

 * hexchat is hardcoding the network instead of using irc.ubuntu.com
just because I want users to use TLS by default, which wouldn't work
with irc.ubuntu.com (due to hostname mismatch).

Uh, no...
I must have mistyped the version in the process.
Thank you for catching it!

Although I'm sure the update would be just fine (and very very likely
2.14.2 brought only bugfixes from 2.14.1), I don't have plans on reviewing
it and actually working out the SRU process for the whole update.

Unless you'd be looking at the real diff, etc yourself, please reject the
bionic upload: I'll redo the change against the correct version and
resubmit next week (when I'll be back from holidays).

[Bug 1923040] Re: en-gb thesaurus is missing

2021-05-02 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
That was done 6 years ago, but reverted a few months later
(6388ad7919526ff00d5a850c84e74e74824f and the commit after that
drops the Provides) and actually never released.

ISTR that there were such symlinks in the past (before lo-dicts came to
be), but they haven't been in place for quite a while.

Now, the previous reject was based on me sharing a few words on IRC...
but I can try to think again if it's a good idea to place such symlinks.

[Bug 1901335] Re: Repository version of Sigil won't run on all Ubuntu 20.04 systems.

2020-11-14 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Hi,

I just tried, and here sigil runs seamlessly on focal.

I can't imagine how it could be looking for libpython3.6m.so, when sigl in
focal was built against python 3.8.

Can we double checkout that you are actually running the sigil I expect
you to? Please run

sha256sum /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sigil/sigil

and try to run that binary instead of plain `sigil`

[Bug 1904716] [NEW] Qt5 UiTools cmake component references unexisting library files

2020-11-18 Thread Mattia Basaglia
Public bug reported:

Happens on Ubuntu 20.10, did not happen on 20.04.

If you have a CMake project using Qt5::UiTools, it links to library
files that do not exist.

it tries to link to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu//libQt5Core.so when the
library file should be /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Core.so.5.14.2

Attached a minimal example. the example has 2 targets foo and bar, foo
links to Qt5::Widgets and compiles fine, bar links to Qt5::UiTools and
it breaks

** Affects: qttools-opensource-src (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Could you please describe:

* Which release you are basing this bug on?
* Describe why you'd want the static library?

I'm somewhat quite against static libraries as much as possible if people
can do without.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem

you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running

I don't speak french, but google translate tells me that dpkg there is
complaining that the colon (:) is missing after the field name in the
dpkg database.

that to me sounds something like the user edited the file directly (and
wrong) rather than anything else.

Anyway, this is in an old untouched bug, which if that was the case it
has been long fixed. I recommend you contact user support before filing
a bug if you hit anything like this again.

"pip install httplib2" is no workaround for a bug in a debian package
anyway.

And if you already know it's something that has to do with httplib2, why
did you assign this bug to ubuntu-dev-tools instead of python-httplib2
(which will be updated at some point, a contributor contacted me to

[Bug 1791437] Re: Can't use pbuilder inside simple lxc container?

That's your lxc configuration that doesn't allow mknode(2), so you can't
run debootstrap within it. So it'd say your environment is too
restrictive to do what you want to do.

[Bug 1791437] Re: Can't use pbuilder inside simple lxc container?

2018-09-09 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Yes and no. In the case of the makedev installation phase I think it
can be somewhat senseful to not create the device nodes if it's not
going to work.

But here we are talking about debootstrap, which only creates a very few
device nodes for some important devs, like /dev/null… You are going to
need it, if you disallow its creation you can't expect it to work.

For this case, I expect just running the deboostrap (= `pbuilder
create`) phase out of lxc and the rest inside to just work, btw.

[Bug 1778133] Re: cppunit-config is missing

2018-09-11 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
Sure, that script has been dropped upstream in 2016, so of course the
new packaging doesn't have it.

Please move to pkg-config to get the compile and link flags.

[Bug 1206215] Re: pbuilder forces use of fakeroot

2018-10-12 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
commit the relevant change to pbuilder's git, just removing the option.

If needed dpkg-buildpackage uses it by default anyway.

[Bug 1762890] Re: build fails in multi-arch environment (missing changes file)

2018-10-12 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
It's just that by default it is expecting the chroot to be of the same
architecture of the host system, unless instructed otherwise.

Fixed that particular case here of the .changes file, but I wouldn't be
surprised if anything else was doing same bad assumption.
