What I had no longer works at all due to a problem with XP. The XP problem has been cleared up. Now I can try to install the newer version once I can drive someplace and purchase RAM that is actually good. I like it here, but it is a special place and requires special attention. Thanks for asking. I still have the Ubuntu 8.10 on my personal disk after downloading. -- Bug reported when booting & updates do not complete https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275716 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

My little XP SP2 internet computer not yet. But I have a quad XP SP2 machine with decent RAM (1 gig). I installed Sun xVM VirtualBox on it and tried. it. Complete success! So Gateway laptop is a problem and using a pc with ram smaller than 1 gig is a problem. This machine that worked also has an internal 250 gig hard drive. That seemed to do the trick for this type installation. It will be interesting to see what it does for full machine installation once I can find the RAM disks for my little pc. In this backwoods Third World area that can be challenging. -- Bug reported when booting & updates do not complete https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275716 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 275716] Re: Bug reported when booting & updates do not complete
Hello! Thanks for responding! Actually somebody reported in full what the problem was. I have a gateway laptop I am resurrecting that was sold to me using XP SP2. After 2 years I now use an exterior 17x19 flat monitor and usb mouse and usb keyboard. The problem I was attempting to describe was that Gateway has a peculiar wireless problem that shows up as an error and stops the install at 29% everytime. I understand that the new version of Ubuntu will be ready on 30 October 2008. I will download that. Meanwhile my brother Ted, Missouri, USA, is trying out the new *.11 trial version and will let me know his thoughts. Hope this helps. [Bug 275716] [NEW] Bug reported when booting & updates do not complete
Public bug reported: I installed ubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-i386.iso. I found the Ubuntu website on Google Search as the first one on the list. I downloaded it last week. this is Monday, September 29, 2008 in the Philippines. I am an American from Minnesota, USA. My computer is registered in Chicago - I purchased it in Duluth, Minnesota. It is now Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron - released in April 2008. I installed it using a virtual cd recorder/player from inside Windows XP SP2. (I quit automatic updates for xp sp2 about 2 weeks before disaster began to strike some of my friends who refused to upgrade XP SP2. I like UBUNTU. Have no experience on Hardy Heron. I have been installed for about 2 days. It is installed on a 250 gig external portable hard drive. PROBLEM: (1) Every time I reboot or boot from turned off completely, I receive a bug notice. PROBLEM: (2) I receive continual notices on upgrades. I am not sure the long list of upgrades actually worked. But one of them registered an error attempting to install 1 update: linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic (Linux kernel image for version 2.6.24 on x86/x86_64 (Size: 17.0 MB) I am not a 64 computer user. It is a smaller AMD/intel Gateway Cinematic Widescreen. I am now using a Hanns-G HX191D 17X19 monitor and a usb keyboard and usb mouse. The built in monitor no longer functions but the XP SP2 is currently working beautifully (until Gates murders it next April!). Hope this helps. Re: [Bug 275716] Re: Bug reported when booting & updates do not complete
Yes. Completely accurate. I was able to download it and it did ok. When I received a disk it was super. I placed it on two computers, a gateway laptop and a large fast pc. It refused to download on my small pc with small memory. A memory card will do just fine for it.
